We are in band c at the moment
I've had my eye on a property for a while but I've realised it's in band F! So I think I'll have to write that one off
Just asking out of interest really .

Band E we pay £2480 per year over 10 payments. We added full house loft extension so 2 extra large bedrooms and shower room but no increase to higher band. I still think it is expensive and we have to pay for garden rubbish bin to be emptied separately.

justchecking1 · 15/01/2021 12:53

Band F, £2000 pa

Huge variation across the country!

emmathedilemma · 15/01/2021 13:02

My 2 bedroom (not particularly large) flat is in F. I think we have been screwed by the valuation system as they were built after the valuation date, there's nothing older like them in the area and I'm convinced they've been assigned based on the value at the time they were built.

NeedCoffeeToSurvive · 15/01/2021 13:15

We're in band A, paying around £1200 a year. We moved just before Christmas and previously in band B paid around £1600

3 bed London Borough and we are d. £160 over 10 months. Sil lives in same borough -20 minute walk - in 3 bed too but it’s more vintage and she is e and £200 over 10 months.

chukwe · 15/01/2021 13:47

Band E, £2132.34

LBOCS2 · 15/01/2021 13:47

@LondonMiss

Band F £1787 Sad going up by 5% this year

That's very cheap for a band F, we're a London borough and we're almost £1,000 more. Are you in Wandsworth by any chance? (I'm assuming London due to your username 😁)

glas14368 · 15/01/2021 14:18

We are in Flintshire, North Wales and pay an astounding £3864 for Band I.

So that's a Labour Government for you.

Lockdowndramaqueen · 15/01/2021 14:19

Band E - £2,400 - seems high looking at this - outer London though so guess that’s a factor.

celtiethree · 15/01/2021 14:31

Band H £3293 plus £414 for water as were in Scotland and water hasn’t been privatised so is collected alongside council tax

GiantKitten · 15/01/2021 14:37

Band C £1650 (which is more than I’d have guessed, hadn’t noticed the DDs creeping up!)
3-bed mid terrace, E Lancs.

1990shopefulftm · 15/01/2021 14:38

Band B £1500

LolaButt · 15/01/2021 14:51

Band E. £2100 a year in the midlands.

GiantKitten · 15/01/2021 15:00

@youngestisapsycho

Martin Lewis was talking about council tax last night. He said something about it being based on house valuations in 1991?
@youngestisapsycho Yes that is roughly when they did it - the Poll Tax thing was earlier, and council tax was a reaction to the anger about that. I think it was a combination of drive-bys and local estate agent knowledge. Bands have generally remained unchanged since then but there are some anomalies, eg this one I came across recently - a row of 6 small old stone cottages, more or less identical from the front - the Band A and the Band C look as if they’re the same size, so goodness knows what happened there! (One of the Band Bs is observably bigger Confused)
What is your council tax band and how much do you pay?
HavfrueDenizKisi · 15/01/2021 15:05

Band H - around £3200

HavfrueDenizKisi · 15/01/2021 15:05

Sorry that's London.

jay55 · 15/01/2021 15:12

D £1044 that's with single person discount.

AKAanothername · 15/01/2021 15:21

Band F £2,770

Cherryonthetop2019 · 15/01/2021 15:40

Band G £3240

BentBastard · 15/01/2021 15:42

Band G - £3380

KeepSmiling89 · 15/01/2021 15:48

Err...I don't know what it is for the year, but I'm band B and its £129 a month so...over 10 months that'll be £1290 for the year.

WombatChocolate · 15/01/2021 16:06

I think the figures vary a lot depending in whether you have a Tory or Labour council. Labour are likely to spend more heavily on services and result in higher tax at the upper end.

I've always wondered why we pay over 10 and not 12 months. It's fine, but I wonder why.
