Recommendations for a dishwasher

New house.... new dishwasher! Any you would recommend? Freestanding, full-size, stainless steel. And quiet!

We can see this thread is a little old now so some of the suggestions may be out of date, but if you’ve landed here looking for recommendations, we’ve recently updated our best dishwasher page with plenty of great options, tried and tested by Mumsnet users. We hope you find it useful. Flowers

I have a bosch it is ten years old

desperatehousewife21 · 13/01/2021 07:40

We’re looking at dishwashers too, been in our new build just over a year, we have all the right plumbing/ switches for one but it means losing a cupboard to it, something DH is willing to sacrifice to not have to wash up by hand anymore Grin

We can’t decide between freestanding/ integrated. Integrated will mean a £150ish higher cost as we’d need to get the special door to match our kitchen, however freestanding will mean cutting the kickboard which, once done, there’s no going back.

I want a black dishwasher, found loads of brands I’ve never heard of, only one Bosch in black but doesn’t seem to be in stock.
We’ve looked on curry’s, AO and Argos, where else sells dishwashers!? Don’t really want to spend more than 400.

Bosch or Siemens; I currently have an integrated John Lewis (Aeg) and it’s nowhere near as good, but it does have a light which shines on the floor.
Integrated dishwashers need the front door panel to counterbalance the spring on the appliance door. It won’t stay open without that weight.

All my appliances are Miele. I have never paid full price for one of them.

I always shop around and find places that have end of range, or even from Miele directly as they often have scratch and dent sales.

I am not in UK so I can't tell you where to go, but Miele call this their B stock. Maybe worth a call to them to find out...

My fridge has a tiny scratch on the top of it, my dishwasher has one on the side, neither of them can be seen once installed in place. My washing machine was end of range, as was the tumble drier.

I've got a stainless steel freestanding samsung one, absolutely no issues so far (had it since summer). Whan I read the reviews so were complaining that the cutlery draw rather than a basket means you can't wash taller glasses in the middle drawer. If you have lots of glasses you want to dishwasher you can just halve the size of the tray and have a tall section in the middle bit.

I've gradually swapped all my appliances from hoover/candy (I know the repairman better than ds teacher!) over to samsung. Have a fridge, dishwasher and the ecobubble washing machine and I have to say I'm quite impressed. No problems at all with the fridge freezer apart from ds breaking a freezer drawer (which I've mended with gorilla tape as I'm not paying £50 for a new one) or washing machine which is 2 years old and gets plenty of use.

Just waiting for the twatting tumble dryer to die then am replacing it with a samsung one.

I had one integrated one some years ago.

I much prefer the freestanding as I found with the fully integrated ones, the programmes and features were more limited as the buttons were in a row at the top of the door.

We've just bought a new one a Bosch from John Lewis it has a stainless steel front- we wanted integrated to replace the old one BUT we were governed by stock. There was limited choice everywhere not just JL in December

We now have a cutlery tray - downside of that is the top rack (or now the middle rack due to cutlery) is lower down, so you have to dip down a bit more when loading/unloading. Also it does not fit tall glasses, and in the bottom rack the spikes are not long enough to support say a pint glass so I've had to buy these spike things from Amazon to use if we have tall glasses/water bottles etc

Though saying all of that, it is very quiet has a 45 min quick wash (though my previous one had a 30 min which I would prefer) and overall does it's job well.

dementedpixie · 13/01/2021 08:22

We have a bosch loggixx and have had it for at least 6 or 7 years. It also has a cutlery tray so tall glasses go in at an angle in the top rack and you have to watch the size of your dinner plates so the rotating arm doesn't hit off them.

desperatehousewife21 · 13/01/2021 08:48

isthismylifenow yeah that’s what we’re thinking too tbh, we had an integrated one in our flat years ago. We also loathe to pay £100s more just to have it look like the rest of the kitchen.

There just doesn’t seem to be a lot of stock in black dishwashers atm!

Cutlery trays a good or bad thing?

My Miele dishwasher bought in 2017 now has a rusted and broken prong on the bottom rack. I can't even source a new rack for my model and the replacement racks that do come up cost several hundred pounds. I'm so disappointed.
The best I've had in the past was a Bosch.

Oversize · 13/01/2021 17:10

I like a cutlery tray but find it limits space on the racks. I think a basket is fine.

RavingAnnie · 13/01/2021 17:12

We've got a 10 year old Bosch which has been amazing.

SpeckledyHen · 13/01/2021 17:14

Miele all day long .

RandomUsernameHere · 13/01/2021 17:18

We've just had to call someone out for our Bosch one Confused

Raera · 13/01/2021 17:18

Another Bosch fan here. Love the cutlery tray as it means more room in the bottom rack.
My upper rack is adjustable so I have it higher at one side than the other to accommodate glasses at one side in the top. Plates go underneath on the opposite side. Does that make sense? I really hope I don't need a diagram!

cittabassa · 13/01/2021 17:28

I hate the cutlery tray but I know lots of people love them.

I removed it and use a basket.

SusannaSpider · 13/01/2021 17:32

Another Bosch fan here. Love the cutlery tray as it means more room in the bottom rack.

I really didn't want the cutlery rack, so picked one without and I'm really surprised to find there is far more room in my new dishwasher (Bosch) compared to the old one. I can fit my long stemmed glasses in the top and my big dinner plates in the bottom at the same time. Couldn't do this in my old Siemens and also couldn't do it in the Bosch with the cutlery tray that I tried in-store, even though both had adjustable racks. So I'm not convinced by the cutlery tray.

Ifailed · 13/01/2021 17:37

Miele every time. They are expensive, but last.

Rina66 · 13/01/2021 17:38

Another vote for Bosch integrated here, does a quick wash, has the light on the floor to show its on, quiet when washing and beeps when finished! Would definitely have another.

Oversize · 13/01/2021 17:42

My old Bosch had that and the new Miele doesn't. It's so useful.

User24689 · 13/01/2021 19:01

We have a Bosch. It works brilliantly. Previous dishwashers we have had to rinse things first etc this one we just chuck everything straight in and it comes out clean every time.

Babdoc · 13/01/2021 19:07

I’m going against the tide here, but my first (cheap as chips) Indesit lasted 20 years. My current Indesit is 15 years old and going strong. Neither have ever needed a repairman, and do a brilliant job on the dishes.
An expensive model would need to last 40 years to be better value than an Indesit!

Furball · 13/01/2021 20:40

In my case it's learning to live the with the cutlery tray, I have it and to be fair it does wash the cutlery well. You can get ones that drop down at the sides to fit more higher type things in like coffee cups, but mine doesn't have that.

I kept the cutlery basket from the old dishwasher so can use that if I do need, but generally I use the tray.
