Sky dish installed without permission

Before anyone replies saying I’m being snobby I’m not I couldn’t care less about sky dishes just not when they’re installed on my property without my permission. I’m after genuine advice please.

We have a dilemma with our neighbour they installed a sky dish onto our house without our permission. The wall backs into their garden but it’s the wall for my bedroom so imagine the noise it created when they drilled into my property. I went to confront her about it but couldn’t stand up for myself and asked her something else and then she made a joke about she probably shouldn’t have installed it on my house.

I was wondering what you think I should do about the situation, just leave it? Or brave up and say she shouldn’t have done it. It’s overhanging slightly into my garden also which is a pain. I called sky and they said she would have to call up to have it removed.

Tell her to remove it or you will. Doesn't matter which way it faces, it's your wall.

Ilikewinter · 10/01/2021 20:58

Op you need to put your big girl pants on and sort this out. Your neighbour is an absolute CF and I cant believe the sky installer actually put the dish up on your property, I would be putting in a massive compliant to sky, ultimately they need to come back and take it down immediately.

RubyViolet · 10/01/2021 21:00

No to anyone installing anything on my house.
Tell her unfortunately the engineer/ installer has overstepped the mark and for her to complain to Sky and get it changed.

LordEmsworth · 10/01/2021 21:00

Eh?

Did Sky install it on your house, or did she do it herself? If Sky did it then that's not good enough from them - I would be telling them I will report them for criminal damage for drilling into my bloody wall.

If she did it, I'd get a bloody ladder & screwdriver and take the sod down, throw it in her garden.

Fuckingcrustybread · 10/01/2021 21:03

I'd phone Sky again, tell them that it may be her contract but it's been installed on your property. If Sky won't remove the dish, tell them that you'll find a local electrician to remove it and you'll send them the bill.

squarepinks · 10/01/2021 21:04

If she did it then I'd leave it on your wall but pop up and move it out of alignment so she can't get a signal.

NeverDropYourMoonCup · 10/01/2021 21:10

Contact SKY and tell them it has to be removed immediately and made good as you do not give permission for the installation.

They'll move it. I had permission to install one on my old flat from my landlord, but they put it directly over the front door, not in the preagreed reasonable place I'd asked them to install it (I didn't realise they had done that until it had been put up). I told my landlord and they got in touch with SKY on my behalf, as they told me tough luck, it's installed now, and informed them they didn't give permission for it to be there - it was moved to the side of the house two days later.

Anotherlovelybitofsquirrel · 10/01/2021 21:15

How do people let this happen? How would you not stand up for yourself?

custardbear · 10/01/2021 21:15

Cheeky cow! So the cable stretches over to your neighbour from your wall?! Hideous and how entitled!

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 10/01/2021 21:17

Could you knock it off the wall or at least redirect to a random position with a big stick?

AnotherDelphinium · 10/01/2021 21:17

So does said wall stand entirely on your property is was it built as a party wall?

If its entirely yours, then they cannot use it and you need to go around again, explain that, after further consideration and realising its not a party wall, she needs to get it removed pronto.

If it is a party wall, there is nothing you can do, since the wall was built to straddle the boundary in case one day they wanted to use it.

Whatsnewpussyhat · 10/01/2021 21:23

Ffs, stop being a wet blanket and tell sky to get the fuck back to your property and remove the dish that they had no right or permission to install there. Make sure they fill the holes they'll have made in your bricks/pointing too as they have also damaged your property

ginoclocksomewhere · 10/01/2021 21:24

Phone sky, tell them their engineer has committed criminal damage to your property, and they need to resolve the issue immediately.

velvetcandy · 10/01/2021 21:25

It’s not a parting wall or whatever it’s called

if you don't feel able to speak to her, write a short letter.

donquixotedelamancha · 10/01/2021 22:07

I went to confront her about it but couldn’t stand up for myself and asked her something else and then she made a joke about she probably shouldn’t have installed it on my house.

Well then, she thinks she has permission. Just go and have a normal conversation with your neighbour.

Think through what you want to say and remember that you are in the right.

velvetcandy · 11/01/2021 09:44

I know your right I guess I’m worried that it might create bad relations between us as neighbours do you know what I mean?

Yeah, much better just to let her do whatever she likes to your house.

You could pop round later and ask her if she wants to run a cable across to your house so she can use your electricity too ~ all in the interests of being a good neighbour of course.

Missingjigsawpuzzle · 11/01/2021 09:53

As someone said above, make it a Sky issue not a neighbour issue. Say Sky shouldn't have installed it there and you're not prepared to leave it there as you don't want any responsibility if things go wrong with it in the future. It's not yours and mustn't be on your property.

I understand your concern with the neighbour, so as said above ring Sky and tell them they did not have permission to put their equipment on your property. If they do not remove it (and make good the holes in the wall) you will report to Police for criminal damage.

If the Sky phone operator doesn't assist again, then contact their complaints team. If no joy then go to Police via 101 or online reporting form.

Plussizejumpsuit · 11/01/2021 09:55

Well now its there and the loud install is done does it really matter?

It is a piss take though. So if you're particularly bothered just say you think they should have asked but seen as it there now you'll leave it.

LochJessMonster · 11/01/2021 09:56

Now that the drilling has stopped, does it affect you in any way?
If not, and you really don’t want to affect neighbourly relations, maybe save the battle
for something more substantial?

thegcatsmother · 11/01/2021 13:13

If damp gets in because of the holes, will you have to pay to fix it, or will Sky or your NDN? Get Sky to move it pronto.

corlan · 11/01/2021 13:20

I’m worried that it might create bad relations between us as neighbours
You already have bad relations as neighbours - she has no respect for you or your property. I know it's hard but you need to deal with this or she will keep taking advantage of you.

Justcallmecaptainobvious · 11/01/2021 13:23

You don’t have a good relationship as neighbours. You currently have a relationship which is cordial as long as you let her damage your property. I’d be phoning sky to inform them they have damaged my property without permission and that I’d be escalating the complaint if not fixed within seven days.

Orf1abc · 11/01/2021 13:28

The police will not appreciate you calling them over this.

If you want it moving then speak to your neighbour. What did you do when you heard the drilling?
