Sky dish installed without permission

Before anyone replies saying I’m being snobby I’m not I couldn’t care less about sky dishes just not when they’re installed on my property without my permission. I’m after genuine advice please.

We have a dilemma with our neighbour they installed a sky dish onto our house without our permission. The wall backs into their garden but it’s the wall for my bedroom so imagine the noise it created when they drilled into my property. I went to confront her about it but couldn’t stand up for myself and asked her something else and then she made a joke about she probably shouldn’t have installed it on my house.

I was wondering what you think I should do about the situation, just leave it? Or brave up and say she shouldn’t have done it. It’s overhanging slightly into my garden also which is a pain. I called sky and they said she would have to call up to have it removed.

I can't get my head around not going outside at the time and telling the SKY engineer to stop drilling.

@Missingjigsawpuzzle

As someone said above, make it a Sky issue not a neighbour issue. Say Sky shouldn't have installed it there and you're not prepared to leave it there as you don't want any responsibility if things go wrong with it in the future. It's not yours and mustn't be on your property.

I understand your concern with the neighbour, so as said above ring Sky and tell them they did not have permission to put their equipment on your property. If they do not remove it (and make good the holes in the wall) you will report to Police for criminal damage.

If the Sky phone operator doesn't assist again, then contact their complaints team. If no joy then go to Police via 101 or online reporting form.

Ffs the police have better things to do than deal with this which is a civil matter not criminal.

I agree, but if OP exhausts other avenues above without getting this resolved then what other options do they have? (Genuine question, as then they can follow your advice and not have to approach for potential Police involvement).

My reply above is to 24hours

The real question here is why you can't stand up for yourself? That is a basic life skill 101.

SheldonesqueIsUnwell · 12/01/2021 01:53

I would have spoken to the engineer at the time.

But given that you didn’t, I’d be getting in touch with Sky to move it onto your neighbour’s property.

If she thought it funny and joked about it then she is clearly aware of her cheekyfuckeriness.

Yes pick your battles but this is one of them.

everyone comports differently. OP isn't going to spill all their life here to why they can't "stand up" for themselves.

She put a SKY dish up on your wall, and you're just going to let her get away with it? How did you not say anything at the time? Get someone out to remove it. Christ.

She isn't a good neighbour. She's someone who knows she can do what the fuck she wants and not be pulled up on it. Because that's what you're showing her.

MusicalTrifleMonkey · 12/01/2021 03:30

Go back to Sky immediately and threaten them with Watchdog. Totally unacceptable by then and their installation team. I would be taking them to account, their behaviour is not okay

You don’t want to create bad relations with your neighbour, but she doesn’t care about having bad relations with you
As others have said, contact Sky

Very true! She knew what she was doing.

For those saying it's not an issue- at about each them there's a problem with Sky, and the engineers have to access it via her property again? It's just not on.

I'm more astounded that the engineer just cracked on without having written consent.

Also, in the event that OP wants to sell her property in the near future, the fact that a neighbour has effectively been granted permission to make long-term use of her property free of charge and without any legal agreement in place defining parameters, access, etc., is likely to cause issues.
