How do I get rid of this hot tub??!

Moved into house with a working hot tub in garden (a wooden one, not an inflatable one.) We don't want it due to running costs, very young kids etc. Proving nightmare to try and get rid of! One company offered free collection but then said no as door to garage (which would be access point to property) is smaller than hot tub size. How on earth did they get it in??!! And how do I get rid of it now! Perfectly nice, working, well maintained etc just want it gone!

place it on a local selling site for free.

Starryskiesinthesky · 09/01/2021 07:25

Offer it free on gumtree / local websites?

ememem84 · 09/01/2021 07:29

They probably craned it in. That’s what Fil did with his and also friend did with hers.

I’d imagine you’ll need to crane it out.

As others have said out it on selling sites for free (or very low cost) but specify the need to remove it.

MattWanksock · 09/01/2021 07:36

Break it into pieces? Not ideal if you were hoping to sell it.

Coul you make it into a flower bed? I'm no gardener so that could be a crazy suggestion.

Burnthurst187 · 09/01/2021 07:45

Either dismantle it and take it to the tip, do you have a chainsaw?! Or, you could advertise as free if they remove it etc

We had a three piece sofa, the largest piece had to be smashed up and taken to the tip. We couldn't give it away and charities weren't interested as it had a small rip underneath the cushions!

Jet888 · 09/01/2021 09:47

Hello all, yes I thought that might be the answer! Unfortunately I think if we gave it away we'd face the same problem that people couldn't remove it through our access door so looks like might be chopping it up and tip!

How long ago did you move in? Was it listed on the fixtures and fittings list? If it wasn't, I'd get in touch with your solicitor as you have the right to persue them for the cost of disposing it - and in that case I would seek the cost of a crane!

Presumably it was tricky for them to dispose of so hoped you'd want it and left it behind!

senua · 09/01/2021 11:16

Is there anyone who lives on the other side of the garden hedges/fences who would like it? Although, if you do that, you will have to live with the subsequent machinery-hum, light-pollution and (in due time) get-togethers.

Butterfly44 · 09/01/2021 11:30

Offer it on low price selling sites saying they would need to pay for removal crane lift costs. You'll get offers

PeachPotato · 09/01/2021 11:43

Have you tried it? We have one and young kids and it’s been such a great lockdown activity. The kid has a lock so kids can’t get in. Then you could dispose of it after lockdown.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 09/01/2021 11:51

Put sand in it to make an elaborate sand pit. Make sure the drain plug is removed.

I know kids can be a pain but putting a lock on one of them is a bit extreme Shock
m0therofdragons · 09/01/2021 12:05

We inherited one with this house and I was unsure but in the summer we turn the temp down and the kids love it. We then have it serviced and cleaned in October and use it hot on clear winter nights. With a good insulated lid our electricity bill hardly notices. No idea how we’d get it out the garden so we’ve embraced it.

Newyearnewrule · 09/01/2021 13:06

I wouldn’t get rid of it. With hotter and hotter weather because of climate change, you might find it of great use.

What are the running costs per year?

RainbowRaine · 09/01/2021 13:09

Keep it, you will eventually use it.

If it bothers you to look at, get some bamboo screening to go around it.

LIZS · 09/01/2021 13:12

Our neighbours' (mid terrace) went in via our and ndn garden , removing a fence panel. How well do you get on with your neighbours?!

huuuuunnnndderrricks · 09/01/2021 13:18

Our neighbours came over the house on a lorry crane ! Maybe willl have to
Go out that way too!!

huuuuunnnndderrricks · 09/01/2021 13:19

I'd keep it and use with cold water in the summer! Perfect dip pool!

Lofthouse · 09/01/2021 13:38

Agree with others. I absolutely would put a lock on it but I wouldn't get rid of it with kids. Great dipping pool in the summer and something to do in the winter.

Takingontheflab · 09/01/2021 15:45

Where are you OP? I'll pay to have it craned and delivered to me!

Murinae · 09/01/2021 16:05

I’d keep it and use it. You can always empty it now over winter and refill it in spring

ShouldIgonow · 09/01/2021 16:19

Wow keep it everyone needs a sex pond (sorry hot tub) so much fun to be had

Graffitiqueen · 11/01/2021 10:50

I'd keep it too!

TheCraicDealer · 11/01/2021 10:55

Keep it for a year and if you still don't use it then think about getting rid. Something like that is brilliant when you can't really leave your house and garden, and once we can start having small groups over again it would be great fun with friends or family.
