Do you think this house has kerb appeal?

Or what could be improved?

Thanks

I'm not sure what I find less appealing when I look at houses for sale - masses of black tarmac or a huge red brick driveway with no landscaping, The simplest answer is troughs, pot plants etc

WalkingOnStarshine · 08/01/2021 09:44

It's very dark. Have any similar properties nearby done anything that lightens it up?

BornIn78 · 08/01/2021 09:44

No kerb appeal for me at all. It’s too red and brown.

It needs some greenery in pots around the house (NOT red or brown pots) and I’d see if it was possible to pull that cladding/woodwork or whatever those strips of what looks like wood are supposed to be, off the front of the house.

GU24Mum · 08/01/2021 09:50

The house is a certain style (I'm guessing mid 80s?) and no point changing the windows if the other houses have the same as I think that would look worse.

The drive is very red but hard to tell whether it's as dominating a feature as the photo shows. Can you post a different angle photo - with a car on it and a different angle it may be far less noticeable.

Carysmatthews · 08/01/2021 09:54

Looks dated and some may think the large drive looks like a car park. As someone who has parking issues on their road, I’d love a drive like this. It just looks a bit bare, needs some pots of something under the windows and maybe a nice potted shrub type thing either side of the door.

TigerDrawers · 08/01/2021 09:57

It wouldn't put me off going to see it as the house looks nice, but in time I would want to change the driveway for something a little less in your face (I agree with a PP's post that it would be better photographed when not wet).

I would imagine a change of driveway to a different colour block paving, but with some borders around the edges with planting/shrubs would make a whole tonne of difference.

If you're selling in @Ladyof I'd just get some planters/pots for now. If you're buying, don't let it put you off, but consider the cost of re-doing the driveway (and invest in a big bag of rock salt because that does look slippery as fuck if it freezes!)

AgentProvocateur · 08/01/2021 10:00

I wouldn’t choose to buy a house with a paved over garden.

parkpoolplunge · 08/01/2021 10:04

It looks fine, it's smart and well maintained.

Burnthurst187 · 08/01/2021 10:06

Nice house, I don't like the driveway though

Arobase · 08/01/2021 10:10

If I bought it, the driveway would have to go. I'd keep the minimum needed for parking (but use more standard colour paving or maybe gravel) and restore the rest to lawn.

inappropriateraspberry · 08/01/2021 10:12

Agree with others - too much red and brown. It definitely needs breaking up with some planting.

LadyEloise · 08/01/2021 10:16

As @Hoppinggreen says, it's a bit red and brown, not my favourite colour in relation to houses.
For me too, the red driveway would have to go.
Place greenery around the front windows- a few pots with cream and blue flowers.

Cactusowl · 08/01/2021 10:19

Echo all the potted plants comments, I would use green or blue pots and not terracotta.

inappropriateraspberry · 08/01/2021 10:21

I'd also reduce the driveway to just the bit in front of the garage. A nice pathway through a front garden to the door would be much better.

PresentingPercy · 08/01/2021 12:54

Lots of pots really are too small for this drive. It needs reshaping and taking up around the windows. Then planted. Hanging baskets are just naff. It’s possible to put in planting schemes via raised planters but it limits the planting to linear troughs or large pots which are expensive to maintain due to the need to water extensively. A decent planting scheme with some of the drive removed would boost this house immensely. Pots look like a bit of make up on a carbuncle. I would have the drive done with resin gravel. Real gravel gets tramped into the house. Lots ends up on the pavement too. Establish a path to the front door and what’s needed for cars and plant the rest.

Knittingbaker · 08/01/2021 13:03

Is this your house that you’re selling or are you looking to buy? If you’re selling and don’t want to spend much money I would just put some nice plants and moveable trees, I.e potted bay trees, near the door. If you’re buying and have the budget I think painting the windows a much lighter colour could help.

Knittingbaker · 08/01/2021 13:05

Sorry, meant to add that it would also look nicer with lighter woodwork and garage door too.

VenusClapTrap · 08/01/2021 17:54

Too much drive, not enough front garden.

Theunamedcat · 08/01/2021 17:58

All of the above plus it looks like a nightmare in the snow

nickymanchester · 08/01/2021 18:28

Thanks to google it took about 2 seconds to identify where that house is located.

It looks very similar to the others in that street, so if somebody likes those sort of houses then they would certainly find that one attractive as well.

As others have said, the back garden is small - but, there again, this is a common complaint about many modern homes. At least you would have the reservoir out the back so you're probably never going to get anyone building out there.

Flickoffboris · 08/01/2021 18:36

Sorry but for me it's absolutely everything I dislike; brown pvc, sloping roofs, fake beams, stamped concrete driveways. I would just scroll straight past the advert I'm afraid.

nickymanchester · 08/01/2021 18:37

Personally, that photo doesn't really look that good at all. Even taking a screen print from Google streetview looks better.

Personally, the houses on either side with a garden look better to me personally but, there again, there will be people who prefer the parking space.

Perhaps ask the estate agent to do some more photos of the front of the house and choose from them?

Do you think this house has kerb appeal?
WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 08/01/2021 18:41

It's not a style of house I like (sorry), it would be helped a little by some large pots with nice mini trees or flowers (white).

rwalker · 08/01/2021 18:43

Look alright but presume it's on an estate so it will look the same as the rest.

FatherTedsBankAccount · 08/01/2021 18:45

I'm not convinced people really care about "kerb appeal". I know I don't. It's what the house is like inside that matters to the people living in it, surely.
