Bathroom Layout - Help! (with diagram)

Help me Oh Designy Mumnsetters

With everything shut, my plan of getting a bathroom showroom place to plan my bathroom has fallen through, and I am having to buy things I can't touch or see online which I'm finding really stressful. But to keep on top of the build schedule, I need to confirm layout by Monday. Is anyone any good at this kind of stuff that would be kind enough to suggest the best layout? I need: A large shower (ideally 1800/90 if possible), a freestanding bath (around 1700) a loo and a decent sized sink area that allows for some surface with side of the basin - so either a basin on a countertop or a basin set in a countertop of vanity unit that has usable space either side. And somewhere - a duel fuel heated towel rail. It's not a massive bathroom and I can't seem to make it all fit.

REALLY rough not-to-scale drawing attached. Any suggestions gratefully received. Only caveat is I'd rather not open the door straight onto the loo if possible.

Couldn’t!

NigellaAwesome · 09/01/2021 23:11

I would be inclined to swap the toilet and basin around op. We have a toilet beside a shower screen, and it is a bit Mano having to clean mis-aimed pee from the shower screen.

Otherwise it looks fab!

NigellaAwesome · 09/01/2021 23:12

Or move the toilet to under the window?

NotDonna · 09/01/2021 23:34

Has your door got opening clearance so that you don’t walk into the bath? Or will it open out of the bathroom?

PresentingPercy · 09/01/2021 23:48

Most loos are 400 wide. Fitting it in a 600 space is very narrow.

The bathroom measurement quoted above is 2850 x 2700. That’s bigger than the OP’s. She said hers was 2700 x 2700 with a chimney stack! Narrowing it down by 200 to build in a false wall takes it down to 2500 x 2700. Therefore it needs to be very carefully drawn up because it’s small! As we have said all along, smaller baths fit. Smaller showers fit. Smaller basins fit. You have to compromise. Glad it’s not my problem!

We've got an Omnitub bath and a decent sized shower in a fairly small bathroom. The Omnitub is great as my DH and DS are tall and it's more comfortable for them than a normal bath and you get a deeper soak.

Kingkong66 · 10/01/2021 07:33

Can anyone recommend any free apps/websites to design on?

The bath I screen shorted earlier comes in a smaller 1500 length if that’s of any help. It’s a deep one so may not feel too much of a compromise?

NeilBuchananisBanksy · 10/01/2021 08:30

It doesn't look like there is enough room for the toilet in that layout. Also if it's on an internal wall it's going to make life extremely difficult in terms of pipe work. And costly.

Baxdream · 10/01/2021 09:16

I agree about the toilet, there's nowhere for your arms to go 🤦‍♀️
It just needs a smaller sink.
Could the door open outwards?

leopardspotsdotdotdot · 10/01/2021 09:55

@SlightlyJaded I found a cool little floor planner - floorplancreator.net!

To be accurate in planning this is vital. I think putting tape on the floor and using a “pretend” loo is vital. 100mm either side of a toilet is 4 inches either side! That’s way too small.

PresentingPercy · 10/01/2021 10:18

This layout still works. You move the bath down the window wall to allow for the chimney and false wall. If this leaves 700mm where I put the loo, that’s enough for a basin. Even if it’s 600, that’s still enough for a basin. The original position for the basin could be the loo. It’s a bigger space. Even if the shower is 1m wide, there’s still 900 left for the loo.

Morning. Just to say that I am so glad I posted this and so so grateful for the investment of my "bathroom planning team' - thank you.

This is @leopardspotsdotdotdot's original design but with the look back under the window for more arm waving. The shower head would be on the other wall (just can't seem to move it) and the wall to the left of the basin would continue as a false wall to house plumbing and extend to ceiling height behind the bath for recessed shelves. Does this work do you think? Also, have changed bath to 'back to wall'.

Your shower head should really be on the longest side of the shower as gives you the elbow room. You can get ceiling heads though so you could position the shower head centrally.

My DDs ensuite is 2.7 x 2.7. As you walk in the door she has a large basin to the right (from soak), and the radiator straight ahead. To the right of the rad is the 1200x900 shower. To the left of the rad is the ‘orbit’ bath (Victorian plumbing & plumb world stock this). Opposite the bath & on same side of the window is the loo. It feels huge. I’ve attached photos.

I think it looks nice! The only comment I'd make is you have a back to wall toilet in the picture, so you'd need to have a false walll there or a standard toilet. Your plumber will likely be happy the toilet is on an outside wall ;)

If you have a ceiling shower head, you can run pipes over the ceiling and down into a false wall by chimney too. Shower & sink waste can run under the floor.

good luck!

SlightlyJaded · 10/01/2021 11:15

@PresentingPercy. I couldn't get bath and loo under window because of the chimney bit. I tried the bath under the window with the basin on the first wall on the left but felt a bit crowded. Swapped for loo and it works except that you see the loo as soon as you walk in. Bath under window is nice though....

I'm happy that there are options. I still can't decide though Confused

@NotDonna - that works really well.

Lucky your DD!

@NotDonna that's gorgeous!!

NotDonna · 10/01/2021 12:39

Yes, she’s a lucky girl! She really wanted a bath in there and I was massively struggling with a normal one plus a decent sized shower. I didn’t want a shower over the bath if that could be avoided. A friend has this ‘orbit’ corner one in their main bathroom & it was a great solution. DD is 5ft 7 and it’s plenty big enough for her.

NotDonna · 10/01/2021 12:40

How big is your chimney breast? And it is a chimney breast not soil pipe or anything? Be great if it was the latter so just checking!

Why don't you put the towel rad on the wall the toilets on and have the door open against the same wall?

The loo looks odd to me there but...
