Tradesmen not asked to use toilet?

Hey,

We currently have builders in doing a small extension. The project is only due to last a week. At the start of the project, I never thought to tell them where the toilet is as in the past, tradesmen have always asked and there was just a lot going on when they arrived! But they’ve been here 4 days now and never asked to use the loo but it also feels odd to tell them they’re welcome to use the loo 4 days in 🙈 Although to be fair, there’s only 1 guy has been here everyday - the rest have been different each day.

They may not have asked because they’re not allowed to - Covid n’all - but I feel bad for them!

Do you normally tell them where everything is when they first arrive or just let them crack on and ask for what they need?

We had a tv repair guy here for about half an hour. He asked to use our loo. In the current circumstances I said I would rather he didn’t and directed him to the supermarket loo just around the corner.

@Maisieme you did not......?! 😂

gamerchick · 07/01/2021 11:04

I always tell them where it is if they're here for a while.

I certainly don't say no if they ask Hmm it's not hard to exactly ruddy sanitise a toilet after a visitor.

Christ.

SendMeHome · 07/01/2021 11:05

I'd point it out to them just incase they think that you're not happy for them to use it. It's miserable really needing the toilet...

And I say that as someone who once had a BT man absolutely destroy my toilet... years ago, to be fair. He suddenly felt very unwell, was in the bathroom for nearly an hour, and then asked for things to clean it... He was too unwell to do it in the end, and BT sent me £50 and some biscuits as an apology, but horrible as it was for me - it must have been bloody awful for him, poor man.

He probably has serviced .van which means a bottle to pee in and perhaps a tiny sink to wash his hands.

So happy enough to have them in to fix your tv, but not to treat them with a bit of dignity. If you were that worried about covid, then you wouldn't have someone in to fix a tv. You could have always given them some anti bac and asked them to spray it down afterwards.

No!!!

OMFG

tofuschnitzel · 07/01/2021 13:06

Imagine how awkward it would be to refuse to let someone use your toilet! How utterly ridiculous. We had a decorator here for two days this week, due to substantial water damage from a leak. I changed the hand towel each day to avoid the spread of germs, that was all. It would not have entered my head to tell the decorator that they couldn't use the toilet, they are humans, not robots.

OP, you could just say sorry you were distracted earlier in the week, please feel free to use our facilities.

chestnutshell · 07/01/2021 13:38

@Maisieme omg you didn’t

VenusClapTrap · 07/01/2021 13:42

“Hi there, just checking everything is going ok, you don’t need anything, you’ve found the loo and so on?!”

So in current circumstances where your meant to be limiting contact and needless coming and going and limiting number of people you come in to contact.

Instead of going sure there toilet is just there the quicker you pee the quicker your out of my house,

What you did was direct him to the super market so he left your house went to the super market where he came in to contact with more people any of whom could be a symptomatic, and come back to your house

Making the job longer, risking contact with more people! Well done!

Mrsjayy · 07/01/2021 14:18

TV repair man walked in 2 rooms touched surfaces remote control maybe leaned on something to stand up but a piss in a toilet that is easy wiped down is too far 🙄

BanditOne · 07/01/2021 14:20

@Whiskysoda

Yeah but wasn’t going to piss in the tv was he

I sincerely hope he did! And wiped his knob all over the remote control farted on Maisie’s sofa cushions and wiped baggies on her curtains.

Grin that's brilliant! Yeah I really hope he did!!!
Love2cycle · 07/01/2021 14:29

A trip the supermarket would take 40 minutes out of his day if you take into account parking and queuing (especially at the moment). Really unfair not to let him use your loo which would take 5 minutes.

Fumnudge · 07/01/2021 14:30

My builders were told where everything was, loo, kettle, I made them snacks etc when I was home. Found out they peed up the end of our garden on a regular basis. And disposed of their tea bags there too.
I'm rather pleased I didn't find any brown surprises back there Wink.

Love2cycle · 07/01/2021 14:32

....... TV repairman could have said he's not coming into house due to risk of catching covid off you, TV isn't essential.

LeaveMyDamnJam · 07/01/2021 14:35

You can’t catch COVID from pee. Jesus.

Chumleymouse · 07/01/2021 14:38

I pee behind my shed all the time , when I’m working outside , can’t be bothered traipsing in the house all the time. I deliver stuff to peoples houses but I’d never ask to use the toilet , I just pee in a bottle in the back of the van .

starfishmummy · 07/01/2021 14:41

We had builders in (not recently) who used the loo once in a couple of months (at least when I was in) I can only speculate that on that occasion a poo was done and they were peeing in the bushes in the entry at the back of the house!!

Chumleymouse · 07/01/2021 14:43

Blokes can pee anywhere it’s not a problem.
