Warwickshire

We are quite set on moving to either Oxfordshire or Warwickshire

We want a nice village really, and ideally pretty

Oxfordshire provides all of that but with the matching price tag

Can anyone suggest village or nice places in Warwickshire to live and look into?

Thanks

Warwickshire is lovely but the nice places are not cheap! I love Stratford upon Avon and Leamington Spa in particular although smaller places like Warwick itself and Kenilworth might be cheaper.

Avoid Nuneaton, Rugby, Bedworth. I'm really not keen on these places but the housing is cheaper!

If a city nearby is what you want then Earlsdon in Coventry is lovely but again not cheap!

feliznavidad2 · 02/01/2021 14:28

Love Warwickshire! The smaller villages are lovely too, including Wellesbourne, Bishops Tachbrook, Barford.

LooseMooseHoose · 02/01/2021 14:29

How small a village?

If you like Cotswold quaint, then you could look at places like Tysoe, Radway, Ratley etc. Parts of Fenny Compton too. All these are small though. If you want some facilities, Kineton is a nice place.

Further North, look at places like Napton or Broadwell. I wouldn't bother with Stockton and Southam (the latter busy and industrial). The landscape in these is much more like Northamptonshire than Oxfordshire rolling hills if that's a concern?

Didiusfalco · 02/01/2021 14:32

Places like Balsall Common and Hampton in Arden are nice in Warwickshire but they’re not cheap either.

LooseMooseHoose · 02/01/2021 14:34

Kenilworth is definitely not cheaper than Stratford (especially since the station opened) and isn't a village. Neither is Stratford or Warwick or Leamington. All are very much towns!

Wellesbourne is a tale of two halves pretty-wise I think. But certainly cheaper than some of the others and is a great location roads-wise. Similar for Barford, although it's prettier. Ettington further along the road is my favourite of the three.

Perhaps knowing your budget would also help recommendations?

GuyFawkesDay · 02/01/2021 14:38

Know S Warwickshire well. Depends on budget Tbh, it's not cheap.

Norton Lindsey, Claverdon, Rowington and surrounds are lovely. But expensive.

Cotswold pretty you'll get south of Stratford: Temple Grafton and area. Kineton nice enough little place, large village so things going on. Villages around there nice. Temple Herdwyke is old army base and is less nice.

senua · 02/01/2021 15:09

Be aware that 'cheap' Warwickshire places may be cheap because they are due to have HS2 going through them. Check out the route.

GuyFawkesDay · 02/01/2021 15:12

And the nice places in Warwickshire aren't really hugely different to Oxfordshire on price.

Forevermoaning · 02/01/2021 15:13

Leek wootton and hill wootton are lovely quiet little villages In Warwickshire , albeit very expensive. What is your budget ?

BangingOn · 02/01/2021 15:20

Yes, do be careful of HS2 carving up the countryside!

I agree that the towns in North Warwickshire aren’t great but there are still some lovely villages that are much cheaper than the south of the county. Fillongley, Maxstoke, Nether Whitacre, Meriden etc.

Burnthurst187 · 02/01/2021 16:16

Bubbenhall
Stretton on Dunsmore
Eathorpe
Ashow
Leek Wootton
Stoneleigh
Offchurch

Ashby St Ledgers is just outside the Warwickshire border but beautiful houses

As said, watch out for HS2, Offchurch will be hit but nice village all the same

Burnthurst187 · 02/01/2021 16:18

The Anchor in LW is a brilliant pub/restaurant, esp if you like fish. Tier Two we need you!

MaggieFS · 03/01/2021 19:21

Too many options to list! Do you need a shop/school/pub? Do you need to be within a certain driving time of anywhere or any amenities? That will certainly narrow it down.

FurierTransform · 03/01/2021 20:17

There's loads of nice villages in Warwickshire. It's a nice area to live. I grew up in Kenilworth & I'd struggle to think of any local villages I wouldn't be happy to live in.

BringPizza · 05/01/2021 19:43

We live in a village a few miles south of Stratford-upon-Avon, what are you looking for OP? How far from town do you want to be? Do you want a pub, shop and primary school in your village or are you willing to drive to everything? Do you need to be on a train line to London? An idea of your budget would help as well, the prices in the villages round us vary wildly.

BringPizza · 05/01/2021 19:47

If a city nearby is what you want then Earlsdon in Coventry is lovely but again not cheap! I grew up in Coventry, and Earlsdon is very much a part of the city, it's no more a village than fly through the air Grin but then none of the other places in your post are villages either! I do agree that North Warwickshire is less nice than South Warwickshire.

Redbrickwall · 06/01/2021 11:37

Hey, sorry for the slow reply

Well we definitely would like South Warwickshire, and need good high schools and a sixth form.

I love rural but not too far from a Tesco’s either 😂. And pretty. Pretty is important to me! I am a teacher so need to be able to find work. I’d be happy to supply teach for a while

You'll get slightly more for your money closer to Southam (has a small Tesco) than Leamington.

What's your budget and how many bedrooms do you need?

GuyFawkesDay · 06/01/2021 12:26

6th form wise there are grammars. Lots of the secondaries also have 6th form too.

Then there are colleges at Stratford and Leamington.

There's a decent Tesco in Stratford, and in Banbury so the Oxon borders might suit you?

LunarSea · 06/01/2021 12:30

Berkswell is pretty, and fairly rural - but North Warwickshire so maybe a bit less than the Cotswoldy bits in the South (well located for travel to Coventry, Solihull or southern Birmingham too, so lots of supply teaching within reach). Henley in Arden maybe? Technically a small town, but much smaller than some of the "villages" already mentioned.

senua · 06/01/2021 14:20

Have you looked at the Alcester area? Alcester itself is quite a nice town with a lot going on community-wise. There are some very pretty villages round about.
If you need serious shopping (eg a Tesco Extra!), that can be had only 9 miles away in Redditch.

BringPizza · 06/01/2021 22:56

There are buckets of schools in the Stratford area. There are comprehensive or and grammars aplenty. If you lived in Stratford (for arguments sake, I know you said a village) there are about 9 secondaries within a 30 minute drive.

Redbrickwall · 07/01/2021 13:04

Oh fantastic suggestions thank you! What is Bidford on Avon like?

OP posts:
senua · 07/01/2021 14:03

What is Bidford on Avon like?
Wet?Grin
Seriously, check the flood risk register anywhere near the Avon. Bidford mostly floods to the south of the river, though, away from the town.

Redbrickwall · 07/01/2021 16:09

Oh I didn’t realise this!!!
Is it a nice village though, apart from wet? Grin
