Are you yay or nay for navy kitchens? I like the thought of a navy kitchen with a white quartz counter top. 😀

Yes I like them.

Cecily42 · 18/12/2020 09:43

Yay because I have got oneSmile

Katjolo · 18/12/2020 09:46

@Cecily42 ohh. Which colour I'd your countertop?

They might scream 2020 in a few years time! It would have to suit the house for me to go with dark cabinets but in general this look is attractive. I would want good light in the kitchen though.

xmasnc2020 · 18/12/2020 09:49

I think it's very 2018/2019 and think they will look dated quite quickly.

I do really like them though!

WhereDoesThisToiletGo · 18/12/2020 09:53

I compromised and have a white kitchen with navy island, white quartz worktop.
I'm not changing it for at least 20 years.

I do think all navy with copper handles will date quickly

Katjolo · 18/12/2020 09:54

I'm planning a new kitchen and going back and forth with colours. Contemplated dove grey but not 100% sure.

^ search ‘navy kitchen’ in mn and this comment has been said time and time again about baby kitchens for aggggeeeesssss.

They’ll date, like everything does, but they haven’t dated yet.

If you like it and don’t mind respraying your cupboards cream or whatever in 5+years time then go for it OP.

SockDrawer · 18/12/2020 09:58

😂 navy kitchens, obviously - not baby kitchens.

AlannaOfTrebond · 18/12/2020 10:00

I've just put in navy base units, pale grey top units and a marble look quartz worktop and I love it.

Don't care if it dates, it makes me happy every time I look at it.

MariahCarey · 18/12/2020 10:00

A slighter "newer" version of the navy kitchen is the dark bottle green kitchen. Same aesthetic but less used. Could be a possible option for you?

That said, kitchens don't tend to date as fast as other 'rooms' though, because they are fitted for longer periods and design companies know that people only change their kitchens occasionally, so designs do tend to stick around for longer. The navy kitchen has been popular since about 2015 and is still going strong. It looks lovely and is very practical.

MariahCarey · 18/12/2020 10:05

Ah yes @AlannaOfTrebond has a good point too. Dual colour kitchens have the edge and create a point of difference so that yours isn't "identakit". Navy combined with stainless steel units or white works well. Do a Pinterest search for dual colour kitchens and you'll see some lovely examples.

isseys4xmastinselcats · 18/12/2020 10:39

its your kitchen go for what will make you happy we went for pale blue and six months later i still go mmm when i walk into my kitchen the one we took out was a 1980s one now that had dated but it was still just about useable till we put the new one in

Katjolo · 18/12/2020 10:46

Yes, the dual colour kitchens look lovely. Particularly, navy and white.

Witchlight · 18/12/2020 10:54

My kitchen is painted Stiffkey blue with Carrara marble on top. It is lovely.....I still love it after 6 years.

People may not be putting so many blue kitchens in, in 5 years time, but that doesn’t mean it will look bad.

Often, when I’m looking for inspiration for a room, I will look at 10 year old copies of house magazines. I have a theory that if a scheme still looks good today, it will always look good. I did this with my kitchen - when I chose blue, my kitchen supplier only had a baby blue in its official palate and I had to supply my own paint.

I don’t think dating is an issue at all if you love it. I’ve loved all my kitchens over the years but I wouldn’t want the 80s ones or the 90s ones now. Or even the 2000 one! But it’s a fact that designs date at some stage! 6 years is no age for a kitchen. If you still live it after 26 years, then that’s great. But you might not if something else is now fashionable. Any more than I would want my highly detailed cupboard fronts I had in the past. So many people raves about country line then too. Few kitchens were pained back then either. Everything moves on and changes.

Katjolo · 18/12/2020 13:19

Very true.

Raved about country pine!!!

Elsiebear90 · 18/12/2020 13:21

Yay, I have a kitchen in Hague Blue with a acrylic quartz effect worktop, love it.

Katjolo · 18/12/2020 13:36

@Elsiebear stunning kitchen. Lovely design. May I ask where your kitchen worktop is from?

OP posts:
VenusClapTrap · 18/12/2020 13:49

I like them, especially with brass. My friend has one and it looks lovely.

justanotherneighinparadise · 18/12/2020 13:50

I honestly think it depends on the house, the size of the room and the light. For us with a north facing kitchen, it would have been dreadful.

QueenStromba · 18/12/2020 14:31

I don't think navy is anywhere near popular enough to date any time soon. I'm not sure I've ever seen a navy kitchen on Rightmove.
