Are you yay or nay for navy kitchens? I like the thought of a navy kitchen with a white quartz counter top. 😀

@Cecily42

Yay because I have got oneSmile
Ditto! Grin

i love it and have one wall with open shelving and just white china - White lamps etc and wooden counter tops.
Don't think I'll ever go for white or pale colours on kitchen walls ever again.

Not navy, but we have a duck egg/white dual colour with bright white worktop. It works really well because the colour gives interest (and hides the worse spills at the bottom!) but the white keeps it light and breaks up a very small kitchen, so it looks much bigger. If you wouldn't countenance painting a wall navy, I wouldn't get navy wall cupboards either. If you love bold statement walls, go for it!

We have navy cabinets, white high wall cabinets and thick mitred quartz bench top with white subway tiles and gold handles. I don’t care if it dates, I love it.

These kitchens all sound fab.

Although I would have loved more navy than just the island, our kitchen is too dark to carry it off.
Instead I installed a high gloss navy alusplash back splash between the white base and wall units. I guessed if I got tired of navy, the back splash would be easier to change.

If it's a large space then yay.

But I think in few years' time blue kitchens will be out of fashion. I think they've become too popular already, I blame insta.

Elsiebear90 · 18/12/2020 20:09

@Katjolo thank you! It’s from worktop express :)

Pipandmum · 18/12/2020 20:11

I had a navy (really dark- some people think its black) with white marble effect (it's a composite stone) done in 2016. I had a bottle green one in 2000, so if that's the new trend just goes to show these things are cyclical.
I love the navy still - blue and white is a classic combination so will always have a place.

I’m a kitchen designer and where I work it’s now all about the green although grey is STILL huge. I personally LOVE a navy kitchen particularly with a Carrara Quartz worktop but my favourites change very regularly. 5 years ago everything we sold was white gloss slab door. Now it’s either handless rail or contemporary Shaker. I always advise my clients to go with what they love rather than any ‘trend’.

XingMing · 18/12/2020 20:17

I considered navy when I revamped our kitchen last year but decided against, because it would have meant changing the terracotta floor, and because it's a very bright room with south light. It would have been fairly garish. But the kitchen designer was hot to sell navy units, perhaps the near coast location was influencing his thinking.

Prior to navy, I was quite keen on dove grey. I know people say grey is boring but with accent colours, I think it looks nice.

I had a grey high gloss kitchen fitted about 2 years ago in my old house and love it. Recently moved and the kitchen is navy with light grey granite worktops. It's shaker style. I think it's nicer than my grey one and will take longer to date. I have no intention of changing it for at least 10 years.

NewHouseNewMe · 19/12/2020 21:45

I think classic kitchens in navy will be fine (shaker etc.). Vinyl wraps may look more dated though.
It's a bit like the trend a couple of years ago to have white tiles throughout the downstairs areas, from kitchen to sitting rooms. It isn't done now much but it's not like everyone is ripping it up.
Pick what suits you and enjoy!

Murmurur · 19/12/2020 22:17

If in doubt, just get cupboards you can repaint.

We went with navy walls and cashmere cupboards. I really love the navy but I wanted it to be easy to change as I thought we might get bored of it in a few years. It's in a really light bright kitchen with a long wall of windows and it really does suck the light out. But it's been in for a couple of years and it still makes me happy.

Thanks for the tips everyone.
