World’s smallest bathroom - layout help

I have wracked my brain and been searching for months but can’t find a solution for our tiny bathroom - or shower room.

I’ve attached the floor plan from the estate agents but it’s mostly wrong but gives an idea of the odd shape. The purple L is where the loo is (with the window directly above), the B is the basin and the S is the shower. The door is actually on the angled wall.

There is zero scope for moving any walls. But there must be a better layout. It’s so cramped, I think I must be missing something really obvious.

Has anyone contended with anything similar?

Thanks in advance!

Do you need a shower downstairs? When we had a downstairs loo put in I was considering a shower but we’re advised against it by builders as space was quite small.

Can you have a sliding door? With a normal opening and closing door, a small space feels much smaller.

JustanotherTuesday · 09/12/2020 20:05

Could you get a combined toilet/sink ? That would take up less room.

parietal · 09/12/2020 20:11

don't move the loo - that is expensive & complex in terms of pipes.

can you have a wet-room style shower with a curtain that tucks away when not in use. that way you won't lose space on the shower tray.

FixTheBone · 09/12/2020 20:12

You don't need a shower adjacent to the dining room surely?

Lose it, and it's sorted.

lonelySam · 09/12/2020 20:13

Why would you need a shower downstairs? I'd get rid of the shower.

YoureNotOnTheList · 09/12/2020 20:15

We need more info.

If you don't need the shower, then I would take it out and move the door so it's not opening into the kitchen.

Neolara · 09/12/2020 20:16

Put in a sliding door.

Canyousewcushions · 09/12/2020 20:17

Think I'd put the shower in the corner where the estate agent has shown it, and the sink at the location where the estate agent has shown the door.

The toilet I'd look at moving a bit further into the corner if you have the cash to do it.

If it's your only bathroom I'd also look at those japanese baths/tubs which have a small footprint but would allow someone to have a bath if the wanted to.

titchy · 09/12/2020 20:20

I'm guessing this is your only bathroom? In which case porridgeoats' suggestion (could even squeeze in a small bath where the shower is suggested) or the incorrect one in the estate agent details.

HardAsSnails · 09/12/2020 20:24

I have a downstairs shower room, almost same size as yours, it is really useful so I'd definitely keep it. If you imagine yours squared off but with the toilet and door swapped over it's more or less how ours is laid out.

We re-did ours as a wetroom, the toilet is next to the shower with a glass screen to keep the toilet dry, and we have a full size corner sink, it feels surprisingly spacious when showering. We also have electric underfloor heating so no wall space taken up with a radiator/towel rail.

winechateauxjoy · 09/12/2020 20:24

I would have thought the simplest and cheapest in terms of plumbing costs is to have the toilet against the outside wall? I have a very small bathroom - so small we got rid of the bath and replaced with a shower. We bought a shower which is longer than it is wide in order for it to fit. I also got a very slimline toilet and a smaller sized handbasin. Fitting the sink onto the wall and not on a pedestal also makes the space seem bigger - and easier to clean the floor too.

HeyMoana · 09/12/2020 20:25

We put a sliding door in and made it a wet room. No shower base or curtain, just a waterfall shower head onto a slightly sloped floor.

winechateauxjoy · 09/12/2020 20:27

Could the door open into the kitchen rather than into the bathroom or would that look ridiculous?

YesThatsATurdOnTheRug · 09/12/2020 20:28

Combined toilet and sink?!? Absolutely just changed my life right there, who even knew that was a thing?!?

Bufferingkisses · 09/12/2020 20:38

Very quick mock up, get the builder to make the shower a wet room style so it uses the full length of the cut off space. Toilet only needs moving marginally to the side. It's difficult without measurements though!

OP said it's 1.75 square (less the corner).

HardAsSnails · 09/12/2020 20:43

This is mine-ish. Complicated by having 2 windows. A corner sink (not one of the titchy cloakroom ones) is a great space saver.

Could you get a small vanity with toilet and basin to run along the external wall, something like this victoriaplum.com/product/orchard-myspace-white-right-handed-unit-with-eden-back-to-wall-toilet
Have an 800 x 1200 walk in shower along the bottom wall. It wouldn't be spacious but you'd fit everything in.

CurtainARama · 09/12/2020 20:45

@winechateauxjoy

Could the door open into the kitchen rather than into the bathroom or would that look ridiculous?
That was my first thought.
Myshinynewname · 09/12/2020 20:47

Sorry I mean 800x1400 or 1600 so you walk into it rather than needing space for a door to swing open.

VanillaSpiceCandle · 09/12/2020 20:56

Thanks all for the responses! Some fab ideas.

@Porridgeoat I loved your first idea and subsequent ideas of squaring off the room but it’s really not feasible. The floor plan isn’t to scale (when are they ever) and the walkway between the door and the kitchen cabinet is about as narrow as is comfortable.

@parietal I like the idea of a wet room but thought it might be prohibitively expensive. My issue with the wet room or open(ish) shower would be standing on the tray in shoes when you pop in for the loo.
