Last one I promise. Which tiles?

My kitchen is just so beige, I think I'm going to change it. I've phoned and parts of the order can be cancelled. First pic is current design, second is the potential new one? Advice please I'm so torn

The green, by a mile.

YellowEllis · 27/11/2020 10:30

See I thought this but then my family have all said we're stuck with it then whereas if we keep white tiles we can paint walls and add any colour accessories and it's making me doubt myself. I don't want to get it wrong ConfusedSad

The green

YellowEllis · 27/11/2020 10:36

Ok good I was doubting myself then. I thought this was a better plan then everyone disagreed. I'll swap to the green. The new cupboards aren't as grey as they look there, they are more off-white but less beige than the old ones. It seems a lot fresher

First colour cabinets and green / blue tiles

GreyishDays · 27/11/2020 10:43

First looks dated already. I think you’ll want to change it sooner.

PresentingPercy · 27/11/2020 10:44

It would be a wooden up stand for me and the wall painted above it. Other than the splash back. Then you change the colour when you want and are not stuck with tiles and grout. Lots of people are not tiling kitchens now.

SoupDragon · 27/11/2020 10:45

I far prefer the green. Less public toilet!

S00LA · 27/11/2020 10:47

The green. Bevelled tiles never look great with sockets and switches cut into them . And there’s always lots on a splashback.

Fine in a bathroom .

DrIrisFenby · 27/11/2020 10:51

Oh goodness I clearly have no taste as I think the white tiles are much, much nicer 😳😂

elsaesmeralda · 27/11/2020 10:52

We went for upstands and painted the wall. I really wanted tiles and wasn't sure but it looks great and as a pp said, you can just paint the wall without having to worry about tiles

overwork · 27/11/2020 10:55

If you're not sure about the coloured tiles, how about sticking with white but using a black or grey grout? Might just break it up a bit. The other thing I would say is tiles can be changed - so if you go green and get bored later you don't have to be stuck with it forever!

YellowEllis · 27/11/2020 10:57

These are the new cupboards they are less grey than they look in the photo I uploaded.

I thought a splash of colour through the tiles would be nice but yes I keep being told I'm limiting myself kitchen wise and will always have to have green accessories. I'd probably leave the walls bright white but add oak shelves and hanging plants etc.

I’d have said white too.
I just don’t think the green goes with the rest of the scheme.

YellowEllis · 27/11/2020 10:57

Not my house in that pic - nabbed it off Instagram.

If you’re going for the look of that kitchen why don’t you do what they’ve done and scrap the tiles completely and add an upstand (like a PP said and like is in the pic).
Then start with white paint and if you get really bored you just change the colour of the walls.

Oh I'm not keen on upstands, nor am I going for the look of that kitchen particularly it was just the first example I saw to show how the colour actually looks. I definitely want tiles I know that much!

You’re asking the wrong people.

Green tiles = green accessories = green blinds etc.
^ people who match like that are never going to be design-minded, and will always play it safe. IME anyway.

Green tiles don’t dictate the colours of anything else more than white ones will.

The green is beautiful.

milienhaus · 27/11/2020 11:07

Green!

LaBodDelMed · 27/11/2020 11:11

@YellowEllis
Ok so you said “I definitely want tiles I know that much”
Go back to when you first went into showrooms (assuming you did, given Corona!)
What wowed you?
Go for what you want. What’s booing to make you happy every time you walk into your new kitchen. It’s your kitchen, not anyone else’s.

LaBodDelMed · 27/11/2020 11:11
  • what’s going to, not booing!

I love a splash of colour, but I know it's usually better to stay neutral and add colour through things that are easily changed. The only colour tile dh didn't want was white and I overruled him! Now I'm thinking he was right. I think I'd like the green tiles laid Herringbone, with lots of oak and plants and a solid wood dining table down the other end but worried I'll get bored and it'll be an expense to change I guess.

Though I may get bored of white just as quickly too!

SkedaddIe · 27/11/2020 11:28

If you like the green then definitely go for it. Especially if you're not planning on selling/renting anytime soon. You're gonna look at it more than anyone else so don't put too much stock into other people's opinions.

I'd personally prefer the white but I'm quite boring and there's always a chance that I or dw would need to move for work so my properties tend to be neutral.
