Last one I promise. Which tiles?

My kitchen is just so beige, I think I'm going to change it. I've phoned and parts of the order can be cancelled. First pic is current design, second is the potential new one? Advice please I'm so torn

I prefer the white tiles tbh. They don’t add colour but they do add texture and bounce the light around due to being gloss and bevelled, which the green ones don’t.

I’m never convinced by totally neutral kitchens with a coloured splashback - the splashback jars, to my eye. If you were having more strong colours in the rest of the kitchen then maybe.

I also don’t think that particular green goes very well with plants! (as it’s a turquoisey green) but that may just be me. Oak and white and plants is a fabulous combination though.

I would pick the new cabinet colour rather than the original beigey one, but stick with the white tiles.

Obviously it is the OP's kitchen but you will always get a variety of opinion here. If you know what you want, you would not be asking random strangers in the first place.

I always find the best source of inspiration is magazines like KBB or similar. Adverts in magazines and Houzz. Kitchens with metro tiles have been around for at least 20 years - very much the Conran loft look. So shaker and metro tiles is ultra safe and choosing a colour between white and a minimal green wash will not make much difference. This is a very "safe" kitchen design and obviously does not belong to someone with design at the forefront of their mind. So any plain tile will do really. Whatever the OP likes. I think banks of sockets on tiles looks messy though. All that cutting - herringbone - even more expense.

Honestly I'm asking strangers because I'm frazzled. I've spent weeks agonising over tiles cupboards baths taps and I just can't think anymore. I'm buying for a house that isn't even built. Going completely off of floor plans. I'm stressed! I don't want to move in and hate it because I've gone too out there, I don't want to move in and hate it because it's all beige on beige and boring. I want to get it right.

I like the first one. But if you're going for turquoise how about these? We have similar in oyster and they're lovely, they really capture the light.

Green blue is quite a classic colour in a kitchen and it goes well with the oak worktop ( there’s a lot of grey in oak). And classic is obv the look you are going for.

Herringbone pattern doesn’t work well on a splash back, unless you have no wall units and it’s a feature wall. It’s not enough height to see the pattern well and it looks messy with sockets ( can you tell I I have a thing about sockets ? ) .

Plus your tiler will hate you and charge you more. And there’s more wastage.

Two more options could be changing the cupboards and keeping the white tiles

Or changing the cupboards and changing from white bevelled subway tiles to white herringbone subway tiles

Are your units cashmere or dove grey colour ?

YellowEllis · 27/11/2020 12:03

Neither really, they are a slightly grey off-white colour

I'm leaaaning towards this now as it seems a good half way point

I don't think anything is going to age quite like metro tiles. I remember random coloured fired earth ones twenty years ago.

S00LA · 27/11/2020 12:12

Try to match a “ slightly grey off white colour “ will be a nightmare. Greys are very changeable in the light and you are not able to look at samples in the room.

Go for a contrast. Light green / blue isnt a radical style statement.

White tiles with any kind of off white is tricky. It’s not so bad with emulsion that’s easy to change.

I can see why you are frazzled - you are over complicating it .

NoSquirrels · 27/11/2020 12:16

Go for the lovely green which will make both you and your husband happy.

All sorts of accessories and colour schemes are possible including green tiles. Be brave!

YellowEllis · 27/11/2020 12:24

If we do go for the white herringbone I'd paint the walls above the tile this colour.

Or green tiles and leave walls white.

Think I've convinced myself as if I paint above the tiles emerald and add plants and shelves and prints on the wall it will probably look more interesting than green tiles with white walls.

If they’re the tiles I think (Johnson’s leaf?) then you clearly have excellent taste as my delivery of the same tiles arrived this week!

My new units are alabaster (off white) and the tiles look lovely Smile

This! White herringbone tiles, new white cupboards and emerald walls. That’s a lovely combo. 👍🏻

deffo the second. The first has no character at all.

minipie · 27/11/2020 20:23

Yes to white tiles and green walls! Will look fab and you can change it —when— if green goes out of fashion

laudemio · 27/11/2020 20:30

Sounds lovely OP. I was so stressed renovating our house its worth it in the end 🦚💐
