Anyone know the reasoning behind Rightmove changing their site layout

You used to be able to go directly to street view and look at sold prices for that street in a couple of clicks.

Now you seem to have to go to a new tab and even a separate site to find out what you need.

Happy to be told I have missed something.

Also I look on my phone so don’t know whether all this is still there if I were to have a computer

You can still see all that, you just scroll down.

Pumpkinstace · 22/10/2020 11:57

It's gone all nasty.

Oliversmumsarmy · 22/10/2020 15:56

You can still see all that, you just scroll down

Only mentions previous sales for that particular house, not what has sold in the street anymore

Oliversmumsarmy · 22/10/2020 15:57

And certainly not street view that I can see

Orangecake123 · 22/10/2020 15:57

I'm not a fan of the new layout either.

Oliversmumsarmy · 22/10/2020 16:00

I hated Zoopla because you couldn’t automatically see everything about the property by clicking through.

Now Rightmove seems to have gone worse

Its is shite!

Stilllookingfor · 22/10/2020 16:12

Rightmove really work for the Estate Agents who are the paying clients. So any changes will have been lobbied / paid by the clients. Whatever makes your life more difficult to assess market prices, they will do. So these changes make it more difficult to check the market and what you are paying for. In fact, Zoopla was historically much better at market transparency. That was before the estate agents got pissed off with Z and formed Onthemarket. Then they would not let estate agents be on more than two aggregator sites, including Onthemarket. That affected Zoopla who was great at linking plans and pictures with the right property, but suddenly they don't get the volume anymore, especially in and around London. So they stop investing in this part of the site because they are prevented from accessing the data. All nasty and as a result, market transparency has been going backwards over the years....
Wonder if Rightmove trying to make a separate business of the market prices site, to sell it on? They better hurry, as at this pace, someone will offer a site with good price info and pictures of the properties that people may be willing to pay and subscribe for.

hoxt · 22/10/2020 16:13

They’ve changed the app too. It’s horrid.

OnceUponAnEnzyme · 22/10/2020 16:14

Absolutely. The saying is so true of the internet: 'if you are not paying to use something then you are not the customer, you are the product'.

Oliversmumsarmy · 22/10/2020 16:54

I am a “customer” in that I have my house up for sale through an estate agent.

I cannot for the life of me think why they have done this.

I want people to see the street view of my road. I want people to see the sold prices in the road. I don’t want them to have to go hunting for it.

I look at hundreds of properties. The information is out there even if Rightmove are not willing to put it on their website.

It is like they are trying to keep a secret that is all over the Internet.

Oliversmumsarmy · 22/10/2020 16:55

And torpedoing their business at the same time.

Bluntness100 · 22/10/2020 17:07

Op it’s all there in fact it’s easier to find, just scroll down you have property sale history and you have market info, on the map you just open it and click satellite there.

I know folks don’t like Change but this is a bit silly, it’s there and it’s easier,

Mildura · 22/10/2020 17:22

Agreed Bluntness, it's really not difficult to find.

I think the info provided is actually better than the old site.

Bluntness100 · 22/10/2020 17:24

Yes, I think it’s better, less pages to navigate. And the info on property sale history is right there, as is the houses for sale.

unmarkedbythat · 22/10/2020 17:27

I found the nearby sold prices easily, literally when I scrolled down to read the description text on the right hand side of the page there was a "properties sold nearby" option, and streetview was where it always was

I wonder if there's a difference between the mobile and desktop sites in that case?

Bluntness100 · 22/10/2020 17:34

I’m on the mobile site and it’s all right there.

hgaj · 22/10/2020 17:40

I agree with others that overall it's an improvement eg I now find it easier to zoom in and read the details on floorplans.

Rudolphian · 22/10/2020 17:43

It's still there. Can find it on the nearby sold prices on my mobile.

Not checked on desktop site.

Oliversmumsarmy · 22/10/2020 17:53

I want to look at what sold in the road not just the individual house and I want street view not satellite.

Can’t see anything on right hand side of the page

OP posts:
CoronaIsWatching · 22/10/2020 17:55

Classic case of it ain't broke don't fix it. I'm used to it now though.

Staffy1 · 22/10/2020 18:01

"Sold house prices" halfway down the page should give a list of sold prices for a selected area.

Bluntness100 · 22/10/2020 18:03

Street view is there also, as is sold prices of nearby properties. I have no idea why you can’t find it.

mogtheexcellent · 22/10/2020 18:04

I like it. The floor plans come up bigger.

Bluntness100 · 22/10/2020 18:06
