Which kitchen tap?

I'm really sorry to bore you all, I didn't think my life would come to spending 3 days looking at taps but here we are. I have narrowed it down to these 3 but I'm unsure which one to go for. It will be paired with a white ceramic sink. Does anyone know if this pull out tap if the gap is always there from the end bit of the tap or does it screw back up together? As I don't like the gap. That probably made no sense, I know what I mean in my head. I am getting a new kitchen and it's consuming me.

Aesthetically, I prefer no 3 but, make sure the water will fall completely into the half-sink thing if you have one and not splash onto the draining board like mine.

NotMeNoNo · 14/10/2020 20:30

I would go for No. 3. Kitchen taps get a lot of use and need cleaning frequently. Go for the most normal looking one that you can easily turn on with one finger whilst holding a handful of veg or something. In my view square tap won't be easy to use and pull out tap won't be easy to clean. Stylish as they are.

moaningmyrtle1 · 14/10/2020 20:38

Yeah that's another thing I really thought about with the pull out one, that it wouldn't be so easy to clean. I have a square-ish tap at the minute which was here when we moved in although I do like it so may just go for the 3rd so it's a change.

  1. 1 is more 'modern' and will date quickly IMO, 2 looks an absolute nightmare to clean and is quite ugly IMO.
moaningmyrtle1 · 14/10/2020 20:39

Also I opted for the sink without the middle bit as I didn't think we would really need it

Thank you for the comments, I'm heavily leaning towards the 3rd option now as I don't think you can go wrong with it really!

Out of those 3 I would choose no3 personally. However I would definitely recommend one with a pull out hose. They are brilliant, I wouldn't be without mine now.
I wouldn't get one with the spiral bit though, it would be a nightmare to clean. You can get pull out taps that look like No3.

parietal · 14/10/2020 21:09

can you try them out for real? we got a new tap similar to no3 as a mixer tap, but it is really bad at mixing. It does boiling hot or all cold and it is very hard to adjust to get any temperature in between.

if I ever get a new tap, I'll insist on trying it out first.

ladykuga · 14/10/2020 21:16

Do not go for option 3. The splashback is terrible. The tap is so high up and water seems to go everywhere. Just got rid of one of these taps on an inherited butlers sink as it was soaking all the back of where tap was which is wood. Changed it to a Grohe Eurodisc and I love it. No more splashes.

PigletJohn · 14/10/2020 21:27

@parietal

have you got a hot-water cylinder? What colour?

PastramiNoRye · 14/10/2020 21:28

I would choose 2. I use the pull out bit daily on our sink. I couldn't be without it now.

pallisers · 14/10/2020 21:31

I couldn't live without a pull out tap (when back in Ireland I really miss it) but I wouldn't get the spiral one.

parietal · 14/10/2020 21:51

@PigletJohn - yes, we have a pressurised hot water system. Not sure what you mean by asking the colour of the hot water cylinder. what difference does that make?

all the other mixer taps in the house are fine, it is just the kitchen one (which we replaced when the previous one leaked) which is now rubbish. I suspect because it was cheap & it is hard to get subtle adjustments in the middle of the temperature.

Figgyboa · 14/10/2020 21:56

2nd. Love having a hose and spray option. You'll use it more than you realize. That said, that version is a little ugly.

PigletJohn · 14/10/2020 21:57

@parietal

colour gives clues, including pressure. I guess yours is white or silver.

NotMeNoNo · 14/10/2020 21:58

Bristan do a pull out tap called "Apricot" which is more streamlined, they are pretty reliable as a brand. If you get splashing you need an aerator or the pressure reducing.

yikesanotherbooboo · 14/10/2020 22:12

No idea what that means .. apologies!

emilybrontescorsett · 14/10/2020 22:14

Number 3.

RubyViolet · 14/10/2020 22:17

I love this conversation, it feels so pre COVID. Life was so much simpler.
No 3. Classic, simple easier to clean. Less parts to go wrong.

MJMG2015 · 14/10/2020 22:19

3

I hate taps with pull out hoses-even hidden hoses.

I want one similar to 3, but with separate hot/cold adjusters.

Finals1234 · 14/10/2020 22:23

I love pull out hoses and could not do without one now! Would not go for the spiral design though, look for something else.
I sympathise with the decision fatigue as I am going through the same with my house refurb too!

moaningmyrtle1 · 15/10/2020 07:17

Thank you for the replies! I was set for number 3 but the PP who mentioned terrible splash back has put my off as that would drive me nuts! Has anyone else found that problem?

I like 3 best. Classic, timeless. I have a swan necked tap + butlers sink and have never had any splashing issue. 🤷‍♀️

Mum2b2020 · 15/10/2020 17:38

I highly recommend the Brita Talori tap. It looks like the 3rd one but you fit a brita cartridge to it. My husband was able to fit it really easily. One of my best purchases. (I live in South London with hard water so a filtered tap that removes impurities and limescale is soon nice)
