The vendor of the property we were buying (6 weeks into the process) accepted a higher offer from another buyer, He said ‘she wants to move rapidly’ and doesn’t seem to grasp that the time it takes is just that. He’s lived in the US most of his adult life and can’t understand why there’s a delay. He even took a call from our surveyor on Friday and accepted a booking from them, knowing all the time he had accepted another fucking offer.

The house is a wreck and needs doing up massively and we just can’t borrow any more or it eats into the budget to do it up.

We’ve spent all weekend on RM trying to find something, as well as doing some drive bys.

This is the house we’ve lost: www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-93332942.html

We were 12.5k under asking price, this other buyer has gone in at asking and given him ‘cash as a sign of commitment’. The house is his mum’s and he’s taking her to his home overseas to live with him.

Our chain below us is only 2 with bottom one a cash buyer so we just need to find somewhere!

So exhausted with this.

@ZaraCarmichaelshighheels
Don’t be such a snob, do you think everyone can afford to puts £20k out on a kitchen? Plenty good quality and value available as other pp agree.

BletheringHeights · 04/10/2020 22:33

One of the things you can do is get an Ikea kitchen with a cheaper work surface, then replace it with corian or whatever in a few years time. Ikea designer told me loads of people do it. She priced a really lovely kitchen for me that was about 6k, could have then upgraded surface and even doors in a few years.

Do you really have to move?

I would try to sort out finances and keep your beautiful house.

Seriously I would not move to that red one.

I have done a lot of renovations and flips but from the pictures I just can't take to the red one. I don't know the location situation of course, but the house itself is entirely charmless and you won't be able to put in the character of your current home.

I'd need to render that whole red house and change the windows before I could live in it.

I wish you could stay out!

lunalulu · 04/10/2020 22:42

I meant I wish you could stay PUT!!

OhCaptain · 04/10/2020 22:46

Omg why are you moving? Your house is stunning!

Bunnyfuller · 04/10/2020 23:44

Husband is losing his job start of Nov and won’t be able to earn anything like he does currently. Just have to suck it up. We’re v lucky that we have £300k equity to keep us afloat. I know many people are in far worse circumstances. My neighbour’s wife had a massive stroke yesterday morning and she’s not going to survive. Puts everything into perspective eh.

@SBTLove we’re actually thinking about that 300k new build - it’s at the edge of the estate and v near fields! Huge house and bugger all to do and even cheaper. Thank you!

I love your current house. It’s lovely.

I agree with others on considering south east Northamptonshire villages too. Some of them are pretty and cheaper too. I believe there are also some which have transport to Sharnbrook.

LolaSkoda · 04/10/2020 23:49

I don’t know if this is any good for you. Sorry about your husbands job. Could be nearly mortgage free with this one, five miles from school?

mumsy27 · 05/10/2020 02:35

how about switching to interest only, until your finance is in good shape.
your house is lovely.

seayork2020 · 05/10/2020 03:55

Unless I looked at the wrong house the one I saw needs new paint asap I could not live with that pink but I did not see a wreck.

Bunnyfuller · 05/10/2020 23:43

We think we have found somewhere.

30k cheaper, no real work to do. It’s in a town which isn’t ideal, but something has to give, right?

BitOfFun · 06/10/2020 01:28

How exciting, can you show us?

Porridgeoat · 06/10/2020 04:35

I would have paid the asking price as it’s reasonable. I would have done the basics to update the electrics, floors, boiler, paint walls and then just lived with the kitchen and bathroom for 6 years. No rush to do everything.

Porridgeoat · 06/10/2020 04:36

Needs work but due to the age of the house it will be manageable and not like taking on an old wreck

SilkieChickens · 06/10/2020 05:31

Is this one any good:

SBTLove · 06/10/2020 08:30

@SilkieChickens
That’s OPs that she’s sold 😕

I don't think it is

SBTLove · 06/10/2020 09:16

Sorry very similar

FatimaMunchy · 06/10/2020 09:34

Different village.

Bunnyfuller · 06/10/2020 09:52

Thanks @FatimaMunchy we’ve viewed it, layout is a bit weird and it just feels very closed in. Also opposite a lower school and next to village shop so cars/parking will be mad crazy. They have one very small parking space behind the house.

Bunnyfuller · 06/10/2020 09:55

We’ve formally offered on a place, an hour ago. No reply yet. House is fixed fee so we’ve offered that price. How long does it normally take to accept offer? I’m now feeling like these might be holding out for more...

Arrrghhhh I fucking HATE this.

OP posts:
FatimaMunchy · 06/10/2020 10:05

An hour isn't long. Not like Kirsty and Phil where it is edited to look like instant feedback.

Bunnyfuller · 06/10/2020 10:07

I guess. In my head house was on sale for fixed price, we offered that price, solidly progressing short chain in place - what’s to think about?
Grrrrrrr
