I have fallen in love with a house but...

...it is a flat and it hasn't got a garden. DH is undecided, he really likes the property though. What to do, what to do????

We could never afford a property of the scale that the flat is if it were a detached house or even a semi....It is my perfect living space with three bedrooms on a seperate floor so the kids could have theor own space....it is huge....it has loads of character, two ensuites, loads of living area....but no garden. It is opposite a small beach with a promenade that leads to a park with a park round another corner though.

I LOVE it but DH says where will we have a BBQ (we have only ever had 2 BBQs in 10 years!!!!),

Arrggghhhhhhhh!

I lived in something virtually identical and loved it I have one ds and tbh he went to the park and even in our last place never used the garden! We went for grandeur that we couldn't afford otherwise very nice feeling x

hamabeads · 07/10/2007 15:48

Personally I couldn't live somewhere without a garden. So I owuldn't have even looked at it! But only you know how important it is to you.

oooggs · 07/10/2007 16:02

just looked wcl and it looks lovely

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 07/10/2007 17:08

It says that tere's communal gardnes

Is it not really suitable for the kids though - depends on the garden I guess. Could you bbq there?

WestCountryLass · 07/10/2007 18:36

There is a small front garden area which is where the other flat owners get access to their flats. It isn't a useable with kids space imo.

As you have more bedrooms than you need one could be an amazing playroom. Personally if I had the beach on my doorstep I would much prefer to be on that than in the garden.

We are definitely going to put artificial lawn in our next garden as we have 2 boys who will trash it anyway with bikes, football etc.

Having looked at the flat it is beautiful, the rooms are spacious, and that BBQ could be a meal followed by a beach walk. Could you not have a disposable/portable BBQ and take that to the beach????

You could even use bedroom 5 as a laundry room so that you don't have to hang your smalls out!! Open a window and stick your clothes on an airer OR actually have a washing line inside!!!! I have a mini one in my utility so that everything dries on there when my tumble drier is on.

lalalonglegs · 09/10/2007 12:18

Definitely put in a cheeky offer - if it is accepted then you will be happy to live there at the price, if it isn't then you will be relieved not to have to worry about garden debate.

I live in a big flat and although it has a large roof terrace, my children hardly ever use it because there is a big common across the road and they can have far more fun there. Also, looking at rain coming down in sheets at the moment - as it did most of the summer - I wonder how much use a garden would be much of the year?

hippipotOFBLOODami · 26/10/2007 10:57

Is there an update on this?? Did you decide to go for it, or have you let it go in favour of a garden???

[extremely nosy emoticon ]

WestCountryLass · 26/10/2007 21:24

No update to speak of. We have an offer on our house but they are yet to sell their property so until we are proceedable, I am going to sit it out as if we do decide to offer on the flat we will be in a better position then.

I do still LOVE the flat and have driven by it too many times to mention That being said, one of my friends lives in a log house and we are looking into that as an option. Selling our house (eventually) and then waiting for a plot of land at auction to come up and then having a log house built but we are still in the early stages of investigating this as an option.

Thanks for the update WCL, I must admit, I literally drooled at the pictures of that flat, so I can see why you are tempted.

I love the loghouse idea, how much would one of those set you back?? (not including the land)

WideWebWitch · 27/10/2007 18:09

Hey, I bet the price goes down, nice flat but overpriced imo

WestCountryLass · 27/10/2007 21:01

I like the Hemnestagu one at £46500:

www.premierlogcabins.co.uk/select_a_cabin.html

They are between £25 and £50K ex VAT/delivery and then you would need kitchen and bathroom suites etc.

You are right WWW, would not pay anywhere near that for it, especially as having seen it I know it needs work.
