Bungalows sale time?

How long did it take you to sell a bungalow?

Ours has been on since Wednesday and no viewings yet.. The estate agent did say they can take longer than houses as there is a smaller market for them and it's not in a first time buyers budget usually..

In my area they sell quickly as people either extend them a lot or knock down and build a large house (or even 2 if the plot is large enough).

Kipperandarthur · 24/08/2020 15:49

I would love a bungalow. It will sell but just wait for your target market and remember they aren’t all in such a rush with the property market. Also they may be more wary of moving at the moment due to Covid. Bungalows are hugely popular and normally in short supply. You just need the right generation who normally want them. As said I would love one and I’m not yet the generation that wants and needs them in older age.

Thank you. We are only 24 and 25 and have 2 kids but it was a good reno project. We have loved doing it and has 3 double bedrooms and a great sized drive and garden for Bristol..

I don’t know the area at all but it looks good. My only comments would be three points. Get rid of the skip. Can you finish the garden? If it were me I would box in, put doors on the housing of the washing machine and tumble dryer so that it just looks like a cupboard in the conservatory. But you’ve done amazingly well at your ages to renovate your property. Well done.

JoJoSM2 · 24/08/2020 16:47

The kitchen and the bathroom look lovely. The house is done up but the gardens do let it down as they look a mess so I also think it’d be worth finishing them.

BackforGood · 24/08/2020 16:51

Well, Wednesday is no time at all.

However, I'd agree with pp it seems a shame not to have finished the garden or the drive, when you've done such a lovely job of the inside.

DGRossetti · 24/08/2020 17:05

Is there level access, and how easy is it to use a wheelchair to traverse (bathroom(s) in particular) ?

Everysinglebloodytime · 24/08/2020 17:48

Can you use a different sofa? It makes the living room look tiny, the conservatory is empty except for a washing machine and dryer which makes me think there's no room for it in the kitchen so the conservatory is a big dumping ground.

These would put me off viewing.

I can see past the garden needing attention.

Everysinglebloodytime · 24/08/2020 17:51

Sorry I've just realised that this isn't what you asked.

user1471538283 · 24/08/2020 18:05

Oooh its lovely! Our next home will be a bungalow although I understand they are more expensive than regular homes so take longer to sell. Good luck!

catndogslife · 24/08/2020 19:54

The only time we sold a bungalow, on behalf of a relative who died, we had 2 offers within a week of it going on the market.
The estate agent said that there was a waiting list for that type of property.
3 bed detached bungalows are quite rare. Having said that having off street parking and a good sized garden is also quite rare in that part of Bristol.
We moved into a bungalow earlier this year and there are several close by now up for sale.
The 3 bed detached one sold the quickest!

mklanch · 24/08/2020 20:04

its very beautifully presented.
can i just ask your reasons for selling? as you purchased in 2019

Yellowbutterfly1 · 25/08/2020 06:15

Where I live they sell within days, unfortunately 9/10 it’s to people who completely ruin them by converting them to such extreme that they look awful and effectively become ordinary 2 story houses.

Myself, would love a bungalow especially with at least 3 bedrooms. It does need to have a good flow to the rooms though.

PurBal · 25/08/2020 06:21

I actively search out bungalows.

wowfudge · 25/08/2020 06:37

When your target market is smaller, you need to up your game. The things which may prevent people viewing are the skip, the fact you have to go through the kitchen to get to the bathroom, the washing machine in the conservatory - that's just weird - and the fact the back garden looks as though it needs a lot of work - parts of it look dangerous. The weeds in the paving at the front make it look a mess. It's a shame as you've clearly done a lot of work.

ChilliBeanSauce · 25/08/2020 07:22

You have done a lovely job of the furnishing and flooring and the bathroom is nice too OP but this kindof "renovation" frustrates me, but maybe I am projecting a little. You havent touched the ugly windows or dated conservatory or garden or layout of the kitchen. So, Im guessing youve left the bigger £££ projects for the buyer to sort. I am projecting a little here as I am looking for a bungalow to make my own and live in. There are so many places similar to yours that just because theyve done a bit of painting and added an insta worthy bathroom but left old radiators, ugly windows and consevatories, yet expect top dollar. Maybe yours is not priced at a premium and I am definitely projecting but again, if your going to renovate with an aim to sell, then please do it properly. Nevertheless, selling is stressful so Good Luck !

Porridgeoat · 25/08/2020 08:24

Great flooring!

Porridgeoat · 25/08/2020 08:26

Bungalows are rarely built these days so gaining popularity but with a wide age group and not just the elderly. Often detached, larger plots, good sized windows.

Porridgeoat · 25/08/2020 08:35

Windows look fine. If they are working fine why replace them? Conservatory also? Why replace/change if in good nick. OP has done the interior work including expensive bathroom/kitchen.

ChilliBeanSauce · 25/08/2020 11:35

If dated windows that have been sprayed grey are your thing then I suppose so. You don’t know if kitchen / bathroom were expensive.

FoolsAssassin · 25/08/2020 12:11

I agree the living room looks tiny then looked at room size and saw it isn’t.
Where do you have a table ?
Garden will definitely put off some who don’t want work so would sort that.
Pots at front of house, weed the paving and make neat edge to grass.
Something in conservatory.

WBWIFE · 31/08/2020 08:20

@ChilliBeanSauce we've actually done everything. Including new services to gas and water mains in the road under the driveway. We've put. In a completely new kitchen. New bathroom. New central heating system including pipework throughout not just a boiler. New radiators throughout(column radiators!)

We haven't done the windows because they are in perfectly good working order. We replaced the front door as that was hanging. The garden IS being finished. 66 square meters of brand new Indian stone patio, we have been doing this ourselves around work and also weather dependant. We've had a lot of rain the last couple of weeks. We won't be doing the driveway though.

I don't see what bigger ££ projects we have left for someone except the driveway if they would want to change that?

OP posts:
WBWIFE · 31/08/2020 08:23

@mklanch selling as we had a surprise baby during renovations and now want more room. It was uninhabitable when we got the keys despite the photos online! Dog and cat urine and feaces throughout. Soaked through to floorboards even some of them had to be replaced. We couldn't live in it for 6 months. And have continued to renovate whilst pregnant and with a newborn.
Weve always wanted to live in a village so are looking about 20 mins away from where we are for good schools too

OP posts:
WBWIFE · 31/08/2020 08:25

@wowfudge yes garden patio is being finished. It should be done today. We've had a lot of rain so not bene able to do so.

Skip can go once garden finished.

Can't really change the fact have to go through kitchen to get to bathroom. A lot of houses in Bristol were built this way.
