Decent bathroom ware

Sunisshining12 · 22/08/2020 21:18

Please recommend decent quality bathroom/sanitaryware

Previously bought from Victorian Plumbing - never again. Cheap crap lasted 12 months before falling apart!

Need to do 2 bathrooms & downstairs loo. Wall hung loos, jacuzzi bath, showers, sinks, vanity units, towel rads etc.

Don’t want super expensive but want good quality.

Also need a double vanity unit in a nice design.

Please recommend where to look/decent brands. Tia!

A colleague has just recommended Lusso Stone & Porcelanosa. Any experience of these? She’s a big spender so guessing may be pricey!

@Sunisshining12

Unfortunately the local builders merchants were rubbish. Tried a couple of local ones. Was run of the mill stuff, cheap cloakroom sets & the staff knew nothing
I had the same. Victoria plumb has been fantastic though.
Othering · 24/08/2020 12:23

Porcelanosa is v expensive, plus I'd never buy from them on principle. Every time I've gone in, I've been looked up and down and/or ignored. I typically dress like a tramp and smell of horses during the day and they obviously took one look at me and decided I was too poor. Aaaaand, it's all a bit football-ery in there as well.

@Sunisshining12

What are people’s thoughts on brassware colour to compliment white & grey marble style tiles? Matt black, chrome, rose gold/brass seem to be common choices. Like the idea of satin chrome but not seen any
A lot of that will date very quickly.
bestbefore · 24/08/2020 12:29

Whereabouts are you OP?
We used this company for our stuff and they were very knowledgeable and recommended brands based on budget..
www.plumbinn.co.uk/

We have a beautiful crosswater double wall hung vanity - the costs were cheaper than on their website via our plumber.

CrotchetyQuaver · 24/08/2020 12:29

Try these
Drench.com
Tapwarehouse.com (sells sanitary ware too not just taps)

Sunisshining12 · 24/08/2020 12:30

Wowza, just had a quick look. Out of my budget for sure!

I’m leaning towards black matt brassware but worry it may date/or I may go off it. Anyone gone with black?

Victorian Plumbing stuff has been awful.

Brassware & vanity units are what I’m struggling to find now..

Sorry, crossed posts. I’m in the Midlands. Making a list of all the recommendations to have a good look through tonight, thank you

I like Roca vanity units.

Othering · 24/08/2020 12:59

Yep, victoriana plumb is awful. It's Victoria plumb that's good.

bestbefore · 24/08/2020 13:10

www.calypsobathrooms.co.uk/ also lovely. Prices are often cheaper than RRP

NotMeNoNo · 24/08/2020 13:43

After several bathrooms I now favour a boring approach.
Taps: only normal chrome type. Bristan, Grohe, Crosswater - brands you can buy everywhere, not too cheap.
McAlpine waste/traps
Kaldewei baths - I like steel baths just run hot in first
Burlington are good for traditional sanitary ware
Ikea are not bad for vanity units, they are well designed and very good value
Mira for showers
I would speak to a plumber and say you are not looking for the cheapest but what brands are most reliable especially where fixtures are going to be concealed. Then choose from mainstream brands and buy from a plumbers's merchant, negotiate a discount.

NotMeNoNo · 24/08/2020 13:46

Anything other than chrome plate brassware is very high risk of dating or the coating discolouring or wearing off. Check its guarantee and cleaning instructions.

Plumbers merchants will order in brands even if they don't have them on display.

siddlydiddly · 24/08/2020 16:36

Hansgrohe, hansgrohe Axis range. They're superb quality.

Sunisshining12 · 24/08/2020 20:00

If anyone can recommend anything disabled friendly for my DC bathroom that would be fab!

So far I’ve come across digital shower (so I can pre set, no scolding), sensor lights, sensor tap & sensor flush. I’ve also found a loo that washes & dries if I’m not there to wipe.

Anything else out there that I’ve missed? Thanks

I'd def get the aqua boards for the walls - much easier to keep clean

MillStone · 25/08/2020 17:12

I’ve got Lusso vanity sink, taps and shower. Really nice quality and design.

vivimimi · 26/08/2020 09:05

Wonderful thread, placemarking

MissClementine · 26/08/2020 15:27

We have Twyford in our bathrooms bought through plumbing supply shop. They do a good selection of smaller basins for cloakrooms which is how I discovered them. We also have Mira shower tray and Grohe
shower. All very good.

Sunisshining12 · 26/08/2020 16:46

Those considering a wetroom style shower instead of a tray - the price isn’t actually that much more.

You buy a pre formed shower tray & tile over it, same time as the rest of the floor. The walls are tanked with a sticky solution that goes on with a brush. It’s no where near as difficult as I though. So just thought I’d say definitely consider it!

Hi @Sunisshining12 can you share more info on this pls. I'm considering to do a wetroom for my downstairs WC, that will not be used frequently and a small space. Can you share any videos etc I will show to my builders.

Sunisshining12 · 26/08/2020 20:31

Have a look on Impey wetrooms website,
And impey Aqua form. It’s all on there with some videos. It’s simple with wooden joists/floorboards as they just get cut out, but if you have an existing concrete floor I think that would be a lot more work

We’ve just finished our wet room bathroom everything apart from the tiles and glass came from CP Hart they may be a little more expensive or at least people say they are I don’t know if this is true but they really know all their products have a huge range ensured the we got the right connections etc. Taps and shower were Hansgrohe sink/loo: Duvavit loo flush: Gerberit. The best thing is the rainfall shower the head is 30cm across its amazing.
My husband measured and ordered the glass that goes round part of the shower separately It was expensive but far cheaper than anything bathroom shops showed us it’s low iron so aesthetically looks better shatterproof and nice and thick it looks fab. Our lights are on a movement sensor so come on when you walk in we have two extractor that run on for 20 mins and a heated mirror. The other thing we all love is the door it’s a sliding door that goes it the wall so it not only takes up less space it looks good and other think Im really pleased that we did is all pipe work is now concealed in the wall.
As far as I understand all walls and floors were lined with some sort or waterproof boarding and then tiled over, we needed a new floor drain for the walk in shower which was a bit of a pain. Needless to say it all cost more than we originally planned we’ve never spent so much in one go on one room and took longer to do. But now it’s done we have no regrets. Good luck.
