Please recommend decent quality bathroom/sanitaryware

Previously bought from Victorian Plumbing - never again. Cheap crap lasted 12 months before falling apart!

Need to do 2 bathrooms & downstairs loo. Wall hung loos, jacuzzi bath, showers, sinks, vanity units, towel rads etc.

Don’t want super expensive but want good quality.

Also need a double vanity unit in a nice design.

Please recommend where to look/decent brands. Tia!

We have Burlington and it’s fantastic quality. We didn’t buy it from them - our builder got it from a trade supplier.

We have done three bathrooms now and I always buy everything separately and shop around.

Victoria Plum is the bad one, Victorian Plumbing are really good. They sell loads of different brands at hugely differing price points. So if you got something bad from them it’s the product/brand that’s bad not the company. They have a huge range so they’re worth a look.

Go to posh bathroom showrooms, they often change their displays and sell the previous display items very cheaply.

We used gerberit toilet frames - our fitter says he has never been back to fix a gerberit frame or flush, but says his heart sinks when people have bought the cheap versions as they always go wrong.

We got Duravit looks everywhere. Bought end of line ones/old styles off eBay or clearance sections of websites.

We have Grohe showers which are great, Hansgrohe are a different brand but also very good. We bought all bath and sink taps from Grohe too.

Tiling - we mostly used Tile Mountain who are fantastic. Saw them recommended on here. Very cheap but good quality, they will send you samples, great customer service.

Basically the things you want to spend money on are the things that have moving mechanisms - toilets, taps, showers. The things that don’t matter as much if they are cheap are shower trays (you don’t want a super cheap bendy one but composite ones can be ordered pretty cheap from eBay), shower glass - I checked with our fitter and he said the glass is the same everywhere. So decide what width you want 6/8/10mm and an 8mm piece of shower glass from eBay is going to be identical to an 8mm piece from a posh bathroom shop. Towel rails I didn’t splash out on either, just chose a cheapish one I liked.

We ordered bespoke sink units from a company I found on eBay called Harvey George. I found loads of units I liked on Pinterest and sent them pictures with our dimensions, and specified things like layout, sink type, granite top etc and they made it to spec. We have had two of those done and they’re both still perfect. However I recommended them to someone recently and noticed their prices have doubled since we used them.

For a small downstairs shower room I just ordered a fairly cheap sink unit off eBay that’s actually really nice and fit the space perfectly.

We’ve just finished our wet room bathroom everything apart from the tiles and glass came from CP Hart they may be a little more expensive or at least people say they are I don’t know if this is true but they really know all their products have a huge range ensured the we got the right connections etc. Taps and shower were Hansgrohe sink/loo: Duvavit loo flush: Gerberit. The best thing is the rainfall shower the head is 30cm across its amazing.
My husband measured and ordered the glass that goes round part of the shower separately It was expensive but far cheaper than anything bathroom shops showed us it’s low iron so aesthetically looks better shatterproof and nice and thick it looks fab. Our lights are on a movement sensor so come on when you walk in we have two extractor that run on for 20 mins and a heated mirror. The other thing we all love is the door it’s a sliding door that goes it the wall so it not only takes up less space it looks good and other think Im really pleased that we did is all pipe work is now concealed in the wall.
As far as I understand all walls and floors were lined with some sort or waterproof boarding and then tiled over, we needed a new floor drain for the walk in shower which was a bit of a pain. Needless to say it all cost more than we originally planned we’ve never spent so much in one go on one room and took longer to do. But now it’s done we have no regrets. Good luck.

And impey Aqua form. It’s all on there with some videos. It’s simple with wooden joists/floorboards as they just get cut out, but if you have an existing concrete floor I think that would be a lot more work

Those considering a wetroom style shower instead of a tray - the price isn’t actually that much more.

You buy a pre formed shower tray & tile over it, same time as the rest of the floor. The walls are tanked with a sticky solution that goes on with a brush. It’s no where near as difficult as I though. So just thought I’d say definitely consider it!

We have Twyford in our bathrooms bought through plumbing supply shop. They do a good selection of smaller basins for cloakrooms which is how I discovered them. We also have Mira shower tray and Grohe
shower. All very good.

If anyone can recommend anything disabled friendly for my DC bathroom that would be fab!

So far I’ve come across digital shower (so I can pre set, no scolding), sensor lights, sensor tap & sensor flush. I’ve also found a loo that washes & dries if I’m not there to wipe.

Anything else out there that I’ve missed? Thanks

Anything other than chrome plate brassware is very high risk of dating or the coating discolouring or wearing off. Check its guarantee and cleaning instructions.

Plumbers merchants will order in brands even if they don't have them on display.

After several bathrooms I now favour a boring approach.
Taps: only normal chrome type. Bristan, Grohe, Crosswater - brands you can buy everywhere, not too cheap.
McAlpine waste/traps
Kaldewei baths - I like steel baths just run hot in first
Burlington are good for traditional sanitary ware
Ikea are not bad for vanity units, they are well designed and very good value
Mira for showers
I would speak to a plumber and say you are not looking for the cheapest but what brands are most reliable especially where fixtures are going to be concealed. Then choose from mainstream brands and buy from a plumbers's merchant, negotiate a discount.

I’m leaning towards black matt brassware but worry it may date/or I may go off it. Anyone gone with black?

Victorian Plumbing stuff has been awful.
