Would you buy this house without a garden?

All those bathrooms and nowhere for your dog to piss.

Hell no.

hiredandsqueak · 19/07/2020 22:22

I would buy a house without a garden as the garden has never interested me. I probably wouldn't buy that house though.

Smallgoon · 19/07/2020 22:24

It looks expensive for what it is... The lack of consistency with the reno work is a little odd too. Kitchen/diner area looks super modern, with the bifold doors but the rest of it looks really dated.

SwedishEdith · 19/07/2020 22:31

No, but that's because it's too far from my taste so would have to factor that in to the price. It's too soulless for me and the lack of garden emphasises that.

Climbingallthetrees · 19/07/2020 22:35

Yes, I would. There’s enough outside space. In lots of areas that amount of space is totally normal for a period house and lots of people with kids live in them. Nicely done house.

GervaseFen · 19/07/2020 22:37

I'd go for a flat if I didn't want a garden as you can get great views and it feels more spacious to have everything on one floor.

zaffa · 19/07/2020 22:40

No, I think for that house the outside space is too small. It's why we rejected a lot of beautifully done new builds when we moved last year.
Also I'd be wondering how close the neighbours feel / currently live in a semi with a decent sized garden and the garden really makes us feel like we have a lot more space.
BUT there are most likely lots of people who would love that house - do you love it? Would you want to sell on or is it a final destination house?

Nacreous · 19/07/2020 22:41

I wouldn't mind not having grass, but that house's garden is north facing I think, from the map, so I wouldn't think the terrace would get much sun at all with it being narrow and having so much house nearby. That would really put me off.

I'm not super into the style of the house either so that probably doesn't help.

ChocoTrio · 19/07/2020 22:44

Also, that house no floorpan. Why?!

I get suspicious when they don't have floorplans.

Mistymonday · 19/07/2020 23:02

No, never. What’s the point?

notangelinajolie · 19/07/2020 23:23

I wouldn't buy this house because it's been seriously greyed.
The garden is small and wouldn't be for me but I guess if you don't like gardening it would be ideal.

GrumpyHoonMain · 19/07/2020 23:27

I know many South Asian people for whom that house is a dream (gardens with grass aren’t preferred - many will cement over lawns and create something like what you have.

LolaSkoda · 19/07/2020 23:47

Yep I would buy a home with limited outside space.

In terms of reselling I think the responses on this thread say a lot - some people will be fine with it.

I would have to have some grass though rather than all decking!

Mintjulia · 20/07/2020 00:00

No, it isn’t to my taste. To me it feels bleak and the outside space is a bit prison yard like.

Smallgoon · 20/07/2020 00:11

@ChocoTrio Same. I want to see how much sqm I'm getting for my £££. In fact, I wouldn't even enquire about a viewing until I had this info.

Crabbo · 20/07/2020 00:15

Personally no because I love a garden and would have one as big as possible. I would resent that the footprint of the house is so big and has sacrificed outside space for it. My husband would buy it though as he thinks inside is a better use of space than outside.

ChavvySexPond · 20/07/2020 00:35

It's a tricky time to not have much garden when so many of us are using ours to work and socialise in, as our nearest fix of green space. I assume the front is parking?

Even before you consider children and pet concerns.

Without a floor plan I can't tell how I feel about the house itself, but there are always people who like having the biggest or most done out house on the street that stands out from the others.

JackiesArmy · 20/07/2020 00:57

It's interesting that if you look at the map/street view the photographs were obviously taken before the extension was built. The extension is to the side and all the way around to the back, almost doubling the size of the original house. I think it's an example of a house that is overdeveloped for its site; I expect the price is also over-inflated for the street.

I wouldn't buy it, but then I'd never buy the most expensive house on a street. I would rather be surrounded by houses nicer than the one I could afford!

NotMeNoNo · 20/07/2020 07:21

I can see why they've done it. It was already a big house on a tiny corner plot so the garden would have been smaĺl and overlooked to start with. it would be interesting to see the floor plan, its only a single storey extension.

NotMeNoNo · 20/07/2020 07:23

Ok yes I see now Jackiesarmy good point.

Flamingolingo · 20/07/2020 07:35

I think it’s over developed for the plot, sadly. Which is a shame, because if they had just done the kitchen/family room without the additional bit at the end I think it would work a lot better. The renovation would have been quite expensive, looks like they’ve got a lot of high end Karndean in the bathrooms which is nice (but also looks to possibly be badly laid in one of them). I’m not sure I like the style of everything so it would cost me to make it feel more homely, and the lack of space outside would bother me - especially post lockdown, people are now valuing outdoor space more.

But what about you? Have you seen it? What do you think? (I think it’s silly that there is no floor plan in these times when viewing is more difficult). I would be quite wary for paying for someone else’s renovation project and have a good look at whether the property will be easy to sell in say 10 years when it’s all looking a bit dated.

BarrelOfOtters · 20/07/2020 07:44

Yes I’d buy a house with limited outdoor space and fill it with pots.

But that looks like the most Expensive house On an otherwise fairly ordinary street.

maddy68 · 20/07/2020 07:51

No. Lockdown made me appreciate the need for outside space

maddy68 · 20/07/2020 07:52

Edit just seen it does have outside space and it's beautiful. I would definitely but that ,blow maintainance too

homemadecommunistrussia · 20/07/2020 07:52

The one Aristotle linked to is much nicer and cheaper!
