Would you have an ikea hemnes 6 drawer chest in your living room?

Trying to find some kind of sideboard to fit in an alcove 118 cm wide in my living room/dining room.

Mainly to hold odd bits of paperwork and some toys .

Could I get away with this? Or is it too bedroomy?

www.ikea.com/gb/en/p/hemnes-chest-of-6-drawers-white-20374277/

Would probably change the knobs on it .

Any other suggestions- everything else I’ve found seems to be 150cm wide plus And it wouldn’t fit!

Thanks

It’s a shame you only have 118cm to play around with. There’s lots of nice options from IKEA with 120cm width

Babyiwantabump · 23/06/2020 00:19

@redbigbananafeet I’m the description it says it’s 131cm tall? Is it bigger than that? That comes about nipple height on me (on a good day 🤣)

Just reread youre point. Your nipped must be perkier than my 35 year old ones! Grin

I definitely would

Babyiwantabump · 23/06/2020 00:25

@healththrowawayx it’s between the grey and the white - I have a white round dining table but have grey flooring so either would go I think 🤔

@redbigbananafeet it’s because you put above shoulder height on your first post I thought it must be massive 🤣🤣

I'm 5'4 for comparison

Just got out the tape measure and it would leave a 25cm gap between the top of the unit and bottom of the first shelf - so big enough for some niknaks I think . A cactus ? One of those dangly fake plants from ikea that are all over Instagram 🤣? And a couple of photos maybe

Oh sorry. Exaggeration Sally! I have an actual chest of drawers on my livingroom. I think the Hermès is smart and can totally fit in any room. It clean classic lines. Only thing to consider is if you want the shiny or the Matt. I say go for it. It's really just a bureau by another name

That's exactly what I'm looking for for my front room !

Babyiwantabump · 23/06/2020 09:25

I think I’m going to go for it - now do I brave ikea (haven’t actually been into a shop in real life for aaaages) or order online for delivery in September!

We've got it in our bedroom and while it's fine for clothes, I'm not sure I'd trust it with heavy things like Lego or paperwork.

memememoi · 24/06/2020 21:18

@Babyiwantabump I placed an order beginning of this month and could only get a slot for mid July but my order ended up coming last week!! I was so happy!!

whatswithtodaytoday · 24/06/2020 21:37

I'm not sure the drawers will be strong enough for tots? We used to have it in our bedroom - it's a lovely piece of furniture but the bottom drawer of jumpers fell apart within a couple of years.

whatswithtodaytoday · 24/06/2020 21:38

Toys, not tots. Don't put your kids in them 😆

Babyiwantabump · 25/06/2020 08:28

Hmm if they are not that sturdy maybe I’d be better off with some kind of stacking chests like this

www.made.com/ppc/gunner-set-of-3-extra-large-metal-storage-trunks-tonal-grey?utm_content=shopping-prospecting&madelp=gshopping&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIqcKk_Lec6gIVSrDtCh1PVwo-EAQYAiABEgIntPD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

But then I have the problem of no junk drawer! For letters etc

Can’t wait for the days when the kids are older and all they want is an iPad or phone!

I know someone who has a white Hemnes 6 drawer chest in her living room and I think it works really well. Suits the room and decor and is practical. Hemnes do living room items so I don’t see the issue

horizontilting · 25/06/2020 08:53

I had better luck searching "cabinets" in Ikea. One with shelves, doors and a long drawer has worked well.

madcatladyforever · 28/06/2020 14:26

I would but I'd change all the knobs. I have a cheap white chest of drawers in my bedroom with animal characters on but I like the really colourful morrocan ones too. They make such a difference.
The grey one would look nice with very colourful knobs on.

Perfectly fine in a living room, also how about the sideboard option?

Appreciate it's possibly outing, but would you be happy to share a pic of the alcove? We've got a different set of Hemnes drawers in DS' room, and I think they'd be great in the right sitting room setting, but depends on the style of the room.

The fact the drawers are so large means they'd be excellent for toys - great idea!

givememarmite · 29/06/2020 20:16

We had the narrower version of this (so just the width of one of the thin top drawers) in our living room and it fitted in well. I would agree with other though that I think toys might be a bit heavy for it. We had serviettes, coasters, place mats, tea lights etc in ours. If you do get it please make sure you fix it to the wall, they are very easy to topple over if the drawers are pulled aggressively by children.
