We have changed our minds and are going with Naked Kitchens ( cabinets fitted by our fitter). Mainly because we had a quite of £2k for painting the units ( we can't do it ourselves, I want it perfect) and Naked comes painted in your choice of colour for only £350 extra. Ordered today and now trying to put together all te other bits!

@Sooverthemill let me know how it goes. What was the price difference between the 2? I’ve heard mixed reviews about Naked. Did you see them in person?

mumdone · 29/06/2020 14:40

I went to Tom Howley last week and they said their kitchens are made from tulipwood and mdf same as HMKOC and apparently dEvol.

Sooverthemill · 29/06/2020 14:57

@mumdone I've only seen one bad review and that was on here for their design service. I didn't use their design service but I went by phone to every single kitchen company I could and got draft designs done and cherrypicked what I wanted for layout stealing their ideas. But I already had a good idea what I wanted. The difference wasn't huge once vat was in but painting on top would have got HMK more expensive. I also liked the style of naked slightly more. I found them very very helpful and I had hours of phone calls with them. DeVol and Harvey Jones both make units in the same way as HMK but I also wanted sustainable materials and low VOC. ( I have a DD who has multiple chemical sensitivities and painting cabinets would be an issue). I also messaged lots of people on Instagram who have used them and got nothing but good feedback. Delivery could be as soon as end of august though we may delay for a few weeks. Now trying to look into recycled materials for worktops and flooring but not certain I can do that.

It's a huge investment for us and I am now praying I don't regret it!

Sounds good. Can’t wait to see the finished article! I’m not keen on painting at home either

mumdone · 29/06/2020 15:49

@Sooverthemill how do they make their cabinets? I couldn’t find the info on line

Sooverthemill · 29/06/2020 16:08

From the FAQs

What are your cabinets constructed from?

The quality of our cabinets is hugely important to us. Our cabinet carcasses are constructed from 18.7mm Oak veneered ply as standard for rigidity, however we can also construct these from 18mm Birch ply. Our shaker doors, face frames and drawer boxes are always solid Oak, whilst slab doors are manufactured from 24mm ply or moisture resistant MDF - it is your choice.

@Sooverthemill

Sorry to hear you weren't well 💐

No, I haven't decided 🙇🏻‍♀️ Photos would be lovely IF you can be bothered.

TommyKnocker · 03/02/2021 16:36

@Sooverthemill hope you're feeling better. This is a timely thread for me, just getting kitchen quotes in now and was leaning towards HMKCC as we have tall ceilings which I'd like to make the most of. I'll give NK a go as the painting does add £ (not to mention finding someone).

Sooverthemill · 03/02/2021 17:42

Thank you! We went with Naked Kitchens in the end. Did our own layout and they told us which pieces would fit and advised on plinths, end panels and pelmets ( but we ended up not using the pelmets at all annoyingly, next time I would ask more questions). It came in at around £14 k which was a huge amount for us but worth every penny. We found worktops ( mix of premium oak and silestone via our builder). The flooring was from floors of stone ( sister company to DeVol).

More. Not sure if they show it off very well, the kitchen isn't especially tidy in these!

It looks great @Sooverthemill, you must be really happy!

Sooverthemill · 05/02/2021 19:41

I am! @TommyKnocker it was bloody hard work and expensive but I get joy every day from it. Even without Covid I am basically housebound and spend much of my time in that room. It is very nice

Another vote for Naked Kitchens. We bought an Ex display kitchen which they adapted to fit our space and worked with us to design extra units to fit the space.Six years on and it looks brand new. No regrets. The quality is second to none

Sooverthemill · 05/02/2021 20:44

@ElizabethBennetismybestfriend yes our builder said it's the best kitchen he has ever installed and he's going to install one in his own house
