I am having to make decisions about flooring for the bathroom and ensuite. Torn between materials, tiles are classic but hard to kneel on ( have small children) and cold. Vinyl tiles I know nothing about. Wood worries me in a bathroom incase we have a leak. All I know is I don't want carpet, has anyone got something they recommend?

Don’t have wood in a bathroom!
Tiles are pretty warm as a rule I’ve found, get textured ones which feel nicer and you’ll have a bath at to kneel on if need be. Personally I’ve never had an issue with tiled floors (also have little ones!)

Tiles with underfloor heating. Heavenly.

Nice green shag!

I got a £60 off cut of lino laid a couple of years ago as it was available and we needed it in a rush. Still looks good, warm enough underfoot and cushioned enough on knees to change nappies comfortably.

SauvignonGrower · 09/06/2020 21:52

One with a white-ish Lino that looks terrible after 4 years so we'll have to replace.

The other with tiles and no underfloor heating but is perfectly pleasant.

Remember young kids aren't young kids for long. Just stick a bath rug over the tiles for a year or so.

didireallysaythat · 09/06/2020 22:07

Cork tiles. MN hate them. They come in different finishes etc

Pipandmum · 09/06/2020 22:10

You can get laminate that looks like wood gir bathrooms. I have vinyl in one (not particularly good for knees - use a rolled up towel) and tile in another. Tile is best I think. There's rubber too but I think it might bleach if you get cleaner on it.

SusieSusieSoo · 09/06/2020 22:30

I have tiles with underfloor heating in my en-suite. Plan is to have the same in me bathroom when it finally gets sorted this year.

SusieSusieSoo · 09/06/2020 22:31

*main bathroom not me bathroom Blush

Hagisonthehill · 09/06/2020 22:35

Good quality lino, ours is a nice plain aqua blue.Very easy to clean.
I also insisted on a toilet that fit flush to the wall at the back so no awkward spaces behind to clean.

Slightlydustcovered · 09/06/2020 22:41

Thank you all, so many options. I generally keep drifting back to tile. Will look in to the other suggestions.

In kids bathroom we have rubber tiles (the ones with raised circles) in bright blue with all white bathroom , they are great but quite bright. Good for kneeling but still need a good mat when the kids splash getting out the bath.
Our bathroom we have porcelain tiles which have a slight texture so are less slippy. We have 2 really large bath mats (JL) which make the room warmer but can be chucked in the washer.

Seaweed42 · 09/06/2020 22:50

Top tip, get a nice dark color tile. Not white as you will have to keep cleaning it. You can see every hair. You can get some nice thick bath mats to kneel on.

BinkySodPlop · 09/06/2020 22:53

I've got natural rubber tiles in mine. Can be used with underfloor heating, if you're looking at that. I like it. I don't have the "Lego" stuff, mine is smooth, but it's easy to clean, waterproof and looks good.

claracluck71 · 10/06/2020 10:54

We've got textured plank effect tiles with electric underfloor heating - love them! I like wood in a bathroom as it makes it feel warmer, but these are a more practical option Smile

dementedpixie · 10/06/2020 10:56

We have vinyl tiles. Don't break if you drop something on them and not as cold as tiles

ScottishStottie · 10/06/2020 10:59

We have wood effect laminate click and lock style flooring. It is seen as the more budget option i think, but it looks lovely and feels nice underfoot as well

ScottishStottie · 10/06/2020 10:59

Heres a pic of it!

Slightlydustcovered · 10/06/2020 11:22

Thanks all again this is really helpful. @dementedpixie where did you find vinyl tiles if you don't mind me asking? this seems like a great combination.
@Scottishstottie that looks really nice, thanks for sharing however with two preschool children I am going to try to avoid wood I think.

Google vinyl click flooring. We first got it in our kitchen and then got it in the bathroom

GherkinsOnToast · 10/06/2020 12:07

We have some outrageous vinyl from here going into the family bathroom in our new house. I figured it was one place I could go rouge on the very classic styling around the rest of the house.

Acornacorn · 11/06/2020 12:30

Karndean. Lovely. Warm underfoot. Easy to clean and hard wearing.

NetballHoop · 11/06/2020 12:39

@GherkinsOnToast some of those look amazing. Which one did you choose? I'm tempted by Yazd.

GherkinsOnToast · 11/06/2020 13:02

We've gone with the Navigate snakes and ladders for the family bathroom and Molokai in ours, which we weren't planning on doing but decided to go for it!

NetballHoop · 11/06/2020 13:59

Navigate looks fun for little ones. Mine are too old now. Molokai really reminds me of a pattern my aunt had on her crockery that I used to love.
