Did you put every last penny into your deposit?

If you saved the deposit yourself, not had a gift from family. How much money did you leave as emergency after deposit? Or did you not have any back up savings left?

I have any furniture when I moved out, didn't even have things like saucepans etc (I moved from my parents tiny house, there was no room to store anything).
When we moved in to the flat, we had a small bit of money for furniture which we got from ikea, and gradually bought more and more bits from there as and when we had money. We moved all this furniture here to our home and will slowly change it. Our klippan sofas cost £117 each and are still going 11 years later

We minimised our mortgage payments by maximising our deposit, and only left enough for moving costs, new flooring (the carpets in the house were vile, and also easier to replace when the house was still empty), and 4-5k emergency fund. We were not first time buyers though.

Now our mortgage is less than 20% of our monthly net income, so we are saving up what we can for a new kitchen etc down the line. Also using old furniture for now but will buy some new stuff, possibly with a payment plan, after the shops reopen.

The house was liveable as it was, apart from the dodgy carpets, and we are happy to have an old-fashioned kitchen amongst other things for the time-being.
