Would like somewhere to live without neighbours!

My budget is around £250,000 and would like minimum 1 acre and 3 bedrooms - does such a place exist? I've looked in the Highlands and yes it does seem possible, but does anyone know of other places where I might get such a thing? Thanks.

My sister bought an old farm cottage in East Yorkshire. In fact they bought both the pair of semi detached cottages to ensure no neighbours. Still have people walking up the lane but its a start.

MrsJoshNavidi · 08/05/2020 15:21

Most of Wales, Devon, Cornwall, Wiltshire, Gloucestershire - loads of places really.

billybagpuss · 08/05/2020 15:28

Sorry @MrsJosh no way will you get isolated with an acre of land in the SW for that budget. I live in one of those counties have a fraction of the land and my property is worth pre-covid almost double that, and I have lots of neighbours.

MrsJoshNavidi · 08/05/2020 15:32

Forgot about the budget, sorry.

Most of Wales would fit the bill though.

FrostyGirl66 · 08/05/2020 15:36

Thank you. I have looked in the West as I love it down there - many many holidays! But I can't get what I want in my budget.

I don't mind people 'around' if you see what I mean, I just don't want neighbours!! Too much noise and potential problems lol. I want to be able to potter around in my garden without worrying I have a nosey neighbour! Sitting in my garden just now has just reconfirmed my feelings as I'm listening to my lovely neighbour sharing their delightful music.

Same here. I've been scouring rightmove. Not much that fits the bill, and the budget. You do ok in rural Wales, but you are a long way from everywhere!

AuntieDolly · 08/05/2020 15:54

Northern Ireland

Loofah01 · 08/05/2020 16:12

Ireland, Australia...

ESpressoNotEXpresso · 08/05/2020 16:13

You could get something very nice and isolated in Wales.

Do you need to stay within a certain area though? Can you go anywhere?

FrostyGirl66 · 08/05/2020 16:28

We can go anywhere within reason - although not too far from schools. Several miles distance will be ok.

My husband would like the idea of Australia! I'd prefer New Zealand.

I've not looked at wales. I'm looking now.

Isle of Arran in North Ayrshire?

South Ayrshire, just outside village of Barr?

NotMeNoNo · 08/05/2020 16:39

I'd pick a few areas to focus on where property is generally cheap. Then look at auctions and agents that specialise in rural properties. Midlands, South Yorkshire maybe?

NotMeNoNo · 08/05/2020 16:40

Why do you need the land- horses or just for separation?

ChandlerIsTheBestFriend · 08/05/2020 16:42

Northern Ireland for sure.

TheCumbrian · 08/05/2020 16:48

Probably almost an acre and well below budget

Veterinari · 08/05/2020 17:06

Northumberland, East Yorkshire, Ayrshire

FrostyGirl66 · 08/05/2020 18:18

Lots of good ideas. Thank you. Good idea about agents specialising in rural properties - I've just been looking on Rightmove, so might be missing some.

Thanks for the links, I'll have a proper look at all of them when I get on the laptop.

Want the land for privacy, growing veggies and keeping chickens.

You won't get anything in Pembrokeshire for that. You might get something that needs work in Carmarthenshire: www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-71852353.html

rastafasta · 08/05/2020 20:12

Sorry but you please don't be selfish and move to rural Wales for cheap property, unless you are willing to learn to speak welsh fluently.

ChandlerIsTheBestFriend · 08/05/2020 20:25

I understand the sense in learning the local language of wherever you move to, (I don’t agree it has to be fluent- but passable) but you’ll have to explain to me how it would be selfish to move there without speaking the language? Confused

MinnieMountain · 08/05/2020 21:45

Yes, do explain @rastafasta. Would you expect me to become fluent in Welsh if I moved back when I never was whilst I was growing up in Wales?

imausernamenotanumber · 09/05/2020 09:27

Ha ha, is my rural Welsh-born-and-brought-up SiL allowed back in? I know she’d love to return having lived in an English city for years...but she can only say happy birthday in welsh having never learnt/ been taught it.
