Farrow and ball or Dulux?

Anyone any opinions?

Just moved into our first house and we're looking to do one wall in a statement blue (yes I know it's a cliche)!

We've narrowed it down to Stiffkey Blue by F&B and Sapphire Salute by Dulux.

They are either ends of the top row.

DH can not tell the difference at all and is no help! Hmm

I don’t get why DC put sticky fingers over walls. Never have and never will. Wipe their fingers. I’m not overly house proud but DDs just didn’t do this. Do they go up to the walls immediately after eating and wipe their hands down the walls! I just don’t get it and my friends DC didn’t do this either. Perhaps we just live differently?

Perhaps everyone’s children aren’t like yours?

I have twins now 3, both autistic, both constantly mouthing objects and sucking their fingers. I have much bigger things to worry about than trying to stop them from touching walls or wiping their hands every ten seconds.

We have it on one wall in our bedroom, and will be using it on some woodworms elsewhere.

Painting your woodworms F&B stiffkey blue to match the decor is the epitome of middle class darling Grin

I love FandB and I love stiffkey I just did my bedroom in it
Excuse the unmade bed 🤣

I had my living room done in F&B (strong white) and the rest of my flat colour-matched @ Johnson's trade, again in strong white.

Cannot tell the difference at all and the decorators were happy that they only had to do the one room with f&b

Letschangeeverything · 07/05/2020 22:37

@Parsley1234 that's so nice!

Parsley1234 · 07/05/2020 22:49

@Letschangeeverything thank you ! I love it ! It was cinders blushes before which made me feel like I was living in a blamange 😂 I Have just realised the reason my bedroom wasn’t looking right was the white bed linen is so wrong so I’m saving up for piglet in bed in emerald and navy 🤣

ShouldWeChangeTheBulb · 07/05/2020 22:54

Love stiffkey blue. Always regret using anything but farrow and ball the colour and texture is better than any others.

nowiknowmynoodles · 07/05/2020 22:58

Another one for farrow and ball - or little greene - the cheaper stuff doesn't look the same but it does mark easily as others have said. Stiff key is amazing I have a room in it

NegativeNellyy · 07/05/2020 23:00

Can you put it on with a roller? Or does it have to be a brush?

Get a Johnsons colour match of F&B. Good matches imo, much cheaper, easier to apply and more hardwearing.

TwoKidsStillStanding · 07/05/2020 23:09

Depends on the room. We have F&B in our bedroom, where it looks wonderful. We have F&B Modern Emulsion in the living room. It’s not compatible with blu-tac, that’s for sure.

But to be fair, we used Dulux (Light and Space) in our hall and that looks really battered after just a few months and marks badly and doesn’t wipe well!

TwoKidsStillStanding · 07/05/2020 23:10

@NegativeNellyy, you can use a roller for F&B emulsion.

Fromthebirdsnest · 08/05/2020 02:23

Farrow and ball is such.lovely paimt.well.worth.the.extra.cost.x

Casino218 · 08/05/2020 02:54

F&B every time. Don't do that shit colour match thing either. The reason F&B is more expensive and the colour has more depth is that the paint has more pigment in it. Sure you can do a colour match but it never works in the same way. I can spot the difference straight away.

Tavannach · 08/05/2020 03:01

Colour wise, on this screen, I prefer Stiffkey Blue, but the light in your room is going to make a big difference. Get samples and paint pieces of A4 paper to blutack to the wall and see which you prefer. Quality wise I agree Dulux trade flat Matt, colour matched.

BubblesBuddy · 08/05/2020 09:06

Honestly, one wall in a bedroom will be great with F&B. It won’t cost much more than other paints. We have it in every room. 10 years later it’s perfect. We have it on our exterior too. And on the garage which is sawn timber and on our fencing. For one wall, see it as an investment! Something of beauty in your room!

HappydaysArehere · 08/05/2020 09:15

Sanderson paint is expensive but it covers so well that a lot less is needed. Is F &B the same? Dulux Trade is generally accepted as the best paint they do. Have used many paints over the year and only been disappointed by the DIY own brand paints. Found them needing a lot more covering and any saving on the initial buy is offset by the quantity needed and the physical effort.

Parsley1234 · 08/05/2020 09:46

Don’t do the paint match I did it with a couple of rooms it’s crap and no depth of colour very disappointing

AnnaMagnani · 08/05/2020 09:54

F&B everytime. I've had two houses now in F&B and it's lovely. Decorator has never moaned about it either - probably uses it so often he knows it's not worth it.

Didn't seem to take longer but they have been in my kitchen for what seems like forever - please let lockdown be over so I can have my kitchen finished!

whysorude · 08/05/2020 20:52

I have F&B Blazer on one wall in kitchen/diner and on chimneybreast in sitting room (two rooms flow and same external wall). Remaining walls in both rooms are a Dulux off white.
Have to say I love the F&B paint as it is a different texture to the Dulux and changes colour throughout the day.
(May possibly be too Changing Rooms for some PPs Hmm)

FuckThisWind · 08/05/2020 20:57

Valspar. Every time. I lost my whole home due to a flood 2 years ago. Have used Dulux before. And Farrow and Ball. Both awful. I got Valspar to match my Little Greene colours. Have been happy with every choice. And that's my whole house.

RoosterPie · 08/05/2020 21:00

Farrow and Ball. Always!

NegativeNellyy · 08/05/2020 23:54

@whysorude yes! Changing rooms 😂😂🤦‍♀️

We used Dulux Breton Blue which is slightly less intense than sapphire salute but it’s in the whole of our front room.
It’s been a real marmite choice but the majority of people love it

PickAChew · 09/05/2020 00:27

Idly wondering how many people singing the praises of Stiffkey blue can pronounce it correctly
