Large Baths

Has anyone got a super big bath? Planning a bathroom reno & like the idea of a big jacuzzi bath.

The space allows for up to 1.2m wide x 2m long maximum. But can’t visualise if this is just ridiculously huge or okay? Have cut out some cardboard but still not helped.

I like having a bath & have 2 toddlers so know it will be used, but unsure on what size to go with.

Never actually had a jacuzzi/jet style either so opinions welcome

I view jacuzzi/jet baths as a bit dirty. In my experience people never clean the system regularly. A bath like you describe would put me off honestly ( & i love a bath). Its not very environmentally friendly to use all that water & gas bill would be bigger.

I think I would look at the time taken to fill a large bath and your if your hot water system is sufficient.

Loofah01 · 04/05/2020 15:39

We're getting an 1800 and found it to be 'roomy' but we're not a big family. TBH a bath of the dimensions you mentioed sounds way too big but completely up to you!
Maybe get some dimensions marked up at home and see how you feel about it. Lockdown fun never ends lol

MagnificentMillie · 04/05/2020 15:44

We have jacuzzi baths and I will be getting rid of them when I can. The cleaning is a pain, you have to be really thorough every week and run the cleaner through the pipes or it spews black grot out all over you.

I definitely would love a bigger bath though.

MagnificentMillie · 04/05/2020 15:45

To piggyback on your thread op, are you finding them off the shelf that big or getting it made?

Sunisshining12 · 04/05/2020 16:07

Sorry, I mean the space where the bath will go is 1.2m wife x 2m long. But the bath doesn’t have to be that big. I’m finding it hard to gauge what a ‘big bath’ is, as we currently don’t have one to compare to visually!

Good points about cleaning the system. It will be off the shelf/online not specially made. Probably like a ‘drop in’ style with a tiled surround

Thanks

Standard bath is a misnomer. There are a lot of 1700 baths fitted so maybe could be considered standard. I know that the 1800 is considered a decent size. Best off trying to sit in a few I guess. Easier said than done at mo

purpleheathers · 04/05/2020 17:00

I wouldn't have a jacuzzi bath, they are so unhygienic. Our bath is 6 foot long and 1.5 times the width of a normal bath, I love it. It doesn't take long to fill and was the best bathroom purchase ever.

PigletJohn · 04/05/2020 17:10

how do you heat your hot water?

Doginahat · 04/05/2020 17:13

We've just had an Omnitub put in (pics on my bathroom thread). We went for the Duo which is 105cm x 105cm. It's much deeper than a standard bath.

KingOfDogShite · 04/05/2020 17:19

We’ve got a wide & deep bath in our house, it was here when we moved in so I can’t help you with names or anything but I just popped in to say it has changed my life - I’ve gone from never having a bath to having one most day. I love it.

Dh tells me it costs about 50p per bath. Money well spent imo.

missfliss · 04/05/2020 17:26

I've ordered an 1800 bath - so excited - a freestanding one

Doginahat · 04/05/2020 19:01

I do feel that if you enjoy a nice bath, it's an important investment.

Helena79 · 04/05/2020 22:29

I think 1800 is perfect size. We’re just about to replace our bath in our new house. It’s freestanding and a big size on the outside, but much smaller and shallower than expected on the inside. I don’t think the vendor sat inside it before buying!!

purpleheathers · 04/05/2020 23:18

We have a large bath, it doesn't seem to cost much as our combined gas and electricity bill is £40 a monthly summer and £50 in winter. That's with a combi boiler.

bouncydog · 05/05/2020 04:35

We have a supersized double ended bath. Hubby likes it because he is 5’ 11” and he can stretch out in it. I hate it because I am only 5’ 2” and can’t put too much water in it, otherwise I float!

Sunisshining12 · 05/05/2020 07:09

Thanks everyone! For those saying they love their supersize - can I ask what widths they are?

Are the jacuzzi style unhygienic because of the jet system?

OP posts:
butterdaisy · 05/05/2020 17:33

About 1.5/2 times a standard bath.

Doginahat · 05/05/2020 17:34

I avoided a jacuzzi option when I got the omnitub as even though I loved the idea, I couldn't be arsed with the faff of keeping it properly clean! Grin

IGottaGetOuttaThisPlace · 05/05/2020 18:40

DM has a huge bath. It takes over an hour to fill properly and it's put me off getting one.

PragmaticWench · 05/05/2020 19:00

Yes, the jet system is unhygienic unless you thoroughly flush it through at least once a week. If I see one in a holiday let I don't use it, think of the hidden grime!

We're looking at a new bath and are going for an 1800. I'd love a freestanding omnitub but don't have the space.

Sunisshining12 · 05/05/2020 19:28

Over an hour??!! What on earth!

Maybe I’ll stick with 900...not huge but still bigger than average? Would this comfortably fit 2 people?

Over an hour?! The OP was asking about a bath not a mini swimming pool Grin

Mine takes about 20 minutes to fill I think.

Montgomerystubercles · 05/05/2020 20:33

Don't make it too long - we have a huge bath, I'm only short and find it too uncomfortable to use as I can't lie in it and use my feet to brace myself so I just keep kind of floating up! I use the normal sized one in the children's bathroom. Also impossible to bathe babies if they are too deep..

Sammy867 · 05/05/2020 20:37

We have a small narrow bath which is deepish. Only me and my daughter use it. I don’t think my husband could fit in it to be honest due to it’s width. However he hates baths. It takes around 5 minutes to fill and was a god send when running a bath for a small child as it filled quickly. I can be fully submerged but have my feet on one end and head on the other to prevent me sliding down so it’s perfect for me.
