What would be your hob and oven combo

Traditional shaker kitchen, what would be your dream oven and hob combo be? Range? Induction? Eye level? Large range for supersize roast and single eye level? Induction on island? What combo would you go for? Space no issue!!

I went through this dilemma including Aga or no Aga.
In the end I went for 2 single ovens side by side with a big induction hob over the top. It's built into a fake chimney breast with a painted mantle above and works for us.

mumdone · 28/04/2020 19:01

That sounds lovely. Would you share a photo? I don’t like the grills at the back of a full range style.
I’m quite keen on the really large cavity oven 90cm with another single oven.

My dream kitchen which will be soon at reality. If we ever exchange contracts.

It would be 2 eye level ovens, and cupboards built in around them and drawers underneath and then an island with induction hob with work surfaces either side and dishwasher in the unit and a small sink.

PhoneLock · 28/04/2020 19:07

Five oven Aga with a dual fuel module.

minipie · 28/04/2020 19:18

Large high power induction hob on the island. Two eye level ovens - if it was just me I’d have them side by side but since DH is a foot taller than me, we have them stacked Grin

I had a range till last year and swapped to the above set up when we re did the kitchen. Much much better now. I can have utensils and pans directly under the hob which is so easy plus lots of workspace all round the hob. Eye level oven much easier than stooping.

I highly recommend a “chefs drawer” next to your hob which is a slim pullout for your oils and salt and spices. Also telescopic rails on any eye level oven are a real boon so you can prod at things/turn over without taking it out of the oven fully.

Blueuggboots · 28/04/2020 19:19

Eye level electric fan ovens always.
Gas on glass (easier to clean) large 5-6 burner hob.
I've just moved house and have a "normal slide in oven" and bending down to it is irritating after an eye level oven!!

ZoeandChandon · 28/04/2020 19:22

2 single ovens, induction hob (rimless so it’s th same level as worktop and doesn’t trap crap around the edge) and a big warming drawer, I wouldn’t be without that.

NordSjoen · 28/04/2020 19:27

2 single eye level ovens and a warming drawer below. Extra large induction inset into worktop with multi zones so you can put your roasting tray on to make gravy.

NordSjoen · 28/04/2020 19:28

Also pan drawers right below hob.

Mumintherain · 28/04/2020 19:29

2 single self cleaning ovens, induction 90cm hob,

MrsRobinsonsHandprints · 28/04/2020 19:34

I don't like eye level oven as they never look properly clean so that is a definite no, also don't like hob on island as love to congregate round it and have it for plating up when large dinner parties.

However love Aga, gives a real family feel, otherwise two separate ovens and a separate grill. Also a proving drawer if you like baking bread.

mumdone · 28/04/2020 19:38

Wow. Thanks.
I’m not keen on anything on the island it’s out lean on a chat, entertain space. Also don’t want to have multiple pots and pans on it. We’re not the tidiest of people. I’ve had various combos and now doing another project.Supersizes induction hob rimless and multizone sounds fab.

Is 2x 60cm oven enough. I’m debating a 90cm and a 30cm with an induction hob

OP posts:
mumdone · 28/04/2020 19:43

I was just thinking with a 90cm a Christmas Day dinner would be easy. Or maybe a 90cm and 60cm?

LPG hob and a single large electric oven at easy-reach level. Either side of the hob at upper cupboard level are two two-shelf units with the spices, salt, oils etc. No bending needed.

And that's what we've got.

I've never had much preference over either but this is a very good point! Our first house had eye level and it was fine, redid kitchen and had a single floor level one.

In our new house we got a range with induction hob, it's beautiful and a really good British make. I much prefer the look of a range, tower/eye level seem overbearing.

YorkshireTea86 · 28/04/2020 22:19

What I put in when we had the kitchen done, two single ovens stacked or side by side, if there was room, at eye level and induction hob.

Freshfaced · 28/04/2020 22:20

Just had a rangemaster Elise induction fitted.

Absolutely love it.

Love induction
It looks great
We've had it fitted between one real steel pillar and a fake one built to match in the other side
Glass splash back
Matching hood to shaker kitchen.

Duvetdweller · 28/04/2020 22:50

I have 3 ovens (slide and hide, micro combo and steam) all eye level, warming drawers underneath micro and steam and induction hob. Never needed anything extra. If you can get warming drawers I’d go for it - I’m rubbish at timing cooking and it takes all the pressure off

PigletJohn · 28/04/2020 22:56

I find a 60cm oven big enough for a turkey, haven't tried a goose.

a single oven; or a tower-mounted oven of equivalent size, is pretty big. it's when you try to squeeze and oven plus separate grill into a cooker that they get tight. This is a nuisance with our current cooker; plus you have to crouch down to get at the lower oven.

Next time it will be a tower-mounted big oven, with a second 60cm microwave/combi above. Some are a bit small. We now have a 60cm combi in an eye-level cabinet built specially. The big oven will be pyrolitic. It will be on the other side from the hob, which needs workspace round it. If the room layout was suitable, it would be in a Tall Wall of units including FF, corner larder, swing-out cabinets. A Tall Wall is I think not visually intrusive. You can get swing-down shelves/baskets for your tall cabinets.

You need to measure your eye height as you can't safely use an oven higher than that. And see what is the lowest height you can comfortably lift a heavy roaster out of. You may have people in the house who are taller or shorter than you, or, perhaps through ill-health, find it difficult to manage heavy pans.

MotherForkinShirtBalls · 28/04/2020 23:24

DrinkingInTheNightGarden don't suppose it's a belling, is it? I'm thinking of getting the cookcentre.

Loofah01 · 29/04/2020 08:40

Range for me :) I've ordered a 110cm one

wehaveafloater · 29/04/2020 09:05

I had this conversation with the lady who designed our kitchen. She suggested a range with a large oven and a tall oven and combi oven also. It's in our other house, so can't upload a pic but it's bloody brilliant as I can cook loads of pizzas when the house is full of teenagers in the big oven or if it's just us (me and DH) the small oven is enough. The range oven comes into its own at Christmas as I can literally get the biggest bird in there and tatties etc. It's in our family holiday home so often cooking for six or more, so often have all three going at once. Use one as a warmer too sometimes. Just would have coped with a range with small oven and std size one if she hadn't have suggested it. Glad she did. (thank you Karen at OnePlan) if you have the room, go for it. Also add a prep sink (for draining and filling pots) with a boil tap too close to cooker. Another game changer!

mumdone · 29/04/2020 09:25

Do you find the boiling water taps? I’m not sold on them.

I like the idea of those large ranges but they not as pleasing to the eye. Also the grill at the back and the sides are little crevices for crumbs.
Cooking a million pizzas for children sounds like my type of cooking though!
