Where to live for Epsom College?

oliv34 · 01/03/2020 22:12

My DD is accepted to Epsom College for Y7. I work in Chiswick where would be the best area to live? I am thinking near the college and I can take the train to work. What are the nice areas to buy nearby Epsom College (maybe bus ride away) and also accessible to Chiswick?

Thanks

Woodcote is a loong walk from stn and there's no parking. The Green, Longdown Road, Sandy Lane, Burdon Lane - latter two in Cheam. If budget lower, look at Nonsuch/Wallace Fields. Plentiful parking at Ewell West and Cheam.

And, ahem, Epsom College takes boarders.

CJ is abt 30 mins from Cheam and a quick train there to Chiswick.

BigSandyBalls2015 · 09/03/2020 20:08

It’s about a 10/15 min walk

Tattenham Corner? Epsom Downs - Firtree Rd would be a good choice.

OhTheRoses · 09/03/2020 20:54

Apols - thinking of Woodcote Estate. Yes Woodcote Close is closer.

OhTheRoses · 09/03/2020 20:55

Tatt Cr, Firtree Rd are miles from civ in the pre driving years.

I sent you the link to that house a few days ago.
You thought it was too close to the main road.
And to a previous poster, no, parking is not plentiful around Ewell West.

OhTheRoses · 10/03/2020 05:02

Parking is plentiful at Ewell West Station. There are three car parks in Ewell West and all always have spaces.

oliv34 · 10/03/2020 06:02

@orchardgreen yes yes I remember. Thank you. You actually brought it to my radar. We just know so little and have limited time till summer to build knowledge, make a decision, carry out necessary repairs etc as we have to be there before september.

@orchardgreen would you say this is one of the best choices for Epsom or should we not jump so fast?

You need to go and see it. It’s not on the “Woodcote Estate” despite the name. It’s close to the town centre and street parking is limited, probably residents permits I should think.
Could you rent first?

OhTheRoses · 10/03/2020 07:15

Woodcote Close is a brilliant road.
There's a reasonable amount up at present OP.

Phone the agents, Michael Everett in Epsom; Christies in Cheam are amongst the best. Make 6-8 apts and look and get a personal feel.

There is one car park at ewell west station. It is full from early on every day. There is not a lot of street parking nearby.

This house is in a good, quiet location, on a private road, a few minutes walk to the college. A fair walk to the station, or you could get a bus.

That’s a beautiful house, I might do the lottery tonight Smile

OhTheRoses · 11/03/2020 13:54

Just a thought OP, Ashtead might be worth a look?

Orchardgreen · 11/03/2020 14:07

@oliv34

I’ve just driven down Links Road, it’s a lovely wide sunny road. I wasn’t sure which is the house, but they are all very large and lovely.

BlingLoving · 11/03/2020 14:19

You are planning a major move. why not rent for a while first? Find somewhere that maybe isn't perfect but is conveniently located for the school and the station and plan to live there for a year. Yes, it's a bit of a pain and it adds to the expense, but trying to move to an entirely new area with issues of school/work/commuting etc all at very short notice seems a bit dangerous to me. eg you might find once you're in the area that you'd be happy for your DD to take a train/bus from somewhere like Worcester Park/Ashtead/Ewell/Cheam to school and that you like those areas better.

Also I'm not convinced about busses in greater Epsom. From Epsom towards Kingston through Tolworth or Chessington, sure. But otherwise it's a bit dire.

MakeLemonade · 11/03/2020 19:16

Links Road house is lovely. I would buy that over Woodcote Close for sure.

oliv34 · 11/03/2020 22:47

Thank you all. Cheam looks interesting. Noted the links road as well. I understand the renting option although would be a nightmare logistically.

College Area and Woodcote are walking distance to the station. I lived in the college area for 20 years.

Also the roads off Alexandra Road are worth looking at.

oliv34 · 14/03/2020 09:41

Hi All,

We are looking at Cheam as well now. Main driver is the proximity to public transportation . Epsom doesnt seem to have good bus system. I looked at the properties close to the college but there is very few buses in most cases just bus 166 going at the hour. I need a relatively easy access to the station. Not necessarily just next to the station but about 10 mins walk. Woodcote is a possibility. I will start a new thread on Cheam, would hugely appreciate any advice on that.

The walk to the station from a lot of the college area is 10-15 minutes. I did that walk twice a day, it is a nice walk too.

oliv34 · 14/03/2020 13:12

@movinghouseatlast not much available at the moment. Very close to college is circa 20 mins walk. 40 mins a day a bit too much esp considering this is before a train ride.
