DIY bathroom disaster-wtf do we do?

DH and I failed to spot our idea to spray a row of tiles in our bathroom a vivid green was a fantastically shit idea. We are idiots.

Ds12 came home from a school trip yesterday and observed that it looks like the Hulk has thrown up in there.

Everywhere has a fine mist of sickly green.

How cheaply could we get a new bathroom? It is a small room and we would be happy with just the basics.

Please be nice, I know none of this makes any sense. I promise that in the rest of our lives we are fully functioning, useful, sensible people.

Sounds like a plan!
Might not to be too difficult to remove the existing tiles so you can tile onto wall.

TakeANote · 18/02/2020 21:39

You can buy self adhesive mosaic tiles that stick to existing tiles and look fab.

I did this myself and it looks great.

You could rectify it for about 40 quid. Look at Mosafil uk website.

Don't the stick on tiles stick out and look odd though?

StubbleTurnips · 18/02/2020 21:52

OP if it’s any consolation my DH painted a blood red plasticote paint feature wall when I was away once. I wasn’t not too impressed. We tried to wallpaper over it and the fucking paper slid off the walls. You have my sympathy.
We had to get a plasterer in, long and short was DH stuck a hammer through it

BuddhaAtSea · 18/02/2020 21:55

That’s very funny and totally something I’d do, just not in green!

MuthaFunka61 · 18/02/2020 21:56

Another vote for stick on mosaic tiles. I experimented with these before I moved to see how they stood up to being in a shower and they remained stuck until I peeled them off, they looked convincing too.

Ebay sells them and you can get samples too. I'd have posted a link but I'm not sure how to.

PS. On this side of it,it is really funny, thanks for the giggle

I hope you manage to get it all fixed up okay OP. The entertainment value of this thread has been extraordinarily high. I have been sitting here genuinely laughing out loud. Thank you!

The stick on tiles don’t stick out: they are thinner than normal tiles. You can grout them in if you CBA but I didn’t and they look really smart!

SistersOfPercy · 19/02/2020 11:14

Have you considered using cladding/panels over the tiles instead?
They are reasonably cheap and you don't have the hassle of grout cleaning.

DIY bathroom disaster-wtf do we do?
MrsBobDylan · 19/02/2020 17:10

I swear to God, for every solution, our bathroom has a problem.

DH tried to chip out the green tiles and it made the non-green tiles crack. He is now going to tile over the tiles but I really hate that idea, it just gives me the creeps.

I will take a look at those panels but I worry it will make the bathroom feel a bit like a static caravan. I have found some stick on mosaic tiles which I think are nice.

We have just been to Ikea for some shelves and a unit to sit under the crappy sink. I have bought a fuck tonne more towels because buying towels is the only bathroom improvement I can offer. I'm very close to giving up on the bathroom and shitting in the garden instead.

I am defeated.

Please consider acrylic wall panels before doing anything rash...
