DIY bathroom disaster-wtf do we do?

DH and I failed to spot our idea to spray a row of tiles in our bathroom a vivid green was a fantastically shit idea. We are idiots.

Ds12 came home from a school trip yesterday and observed that it looks like the Hulk has thrown up in there.

Everywhere has a fine mist of sickly green.

How cheaply could we get a new bathroom? It is a small room and we would be happy with just the basics.

Please be nice, I know none of this makes any sense. I promise that in the rest of our lives we are fully functioning, useful, sensible people.

Oh dear...

MrsBobDylan · 17/02/2020 21:07

Actually, some of the suggestions on here are very good. I will go and find DH and try to revive his depressed self with a possible solution.

It's not the parts that are expensive - it's the fitting thereof. Just ltb.

burritofan · 17/02/2020 21:09

Had drink been taken when you did this? Perhaps you should have one now anyway. Grin

woodencoffeetable · 17/02/2020 21:09

ShockGrin
I like the idea.
the row of tiles doesn't look too bad, it's just the finishing that's a bit, erm, pre-school.
dc made something similar with blow pens

QuillBill · 17/02/2020 21:10

Getting a green lightbulb is a stroke of genius. 😂 Or whatever is opposite on the colour wheel! Might balance it out.

TiddyTid · 17/02/2020 21:10

😳

SingingSands · 17/02/2020 21:11

Oh.
Oh dear.

Erm... I'd get a new bathroom.

Was this your original ploy all along, OP? Is DH the fall guy for your new bathroom plan? WinkGrin

Thank you for posting a pic, did make me chuckle. I have nothing helpful to add but good luck. Wine raising my glass to failed DIY.

PurplePonderer · 17/02/2020 21:15

Gosh Shock. But thank you for the pic. I’ve had a bit of a rubbish day and that did made me smile. Sorry to make light of your bathroom woes!

MrsBobDylan · 17/02/2020 21:18

Well, I did want a new bathroom as this one was adapted by the Council for the previous owner. In 10 months the shower (no bath, no other bathrooms) has broken three times and we have spent a total of 5 weeks washing in a tiny sink. Fortunately the 3 dc prefer not to wash so they have not suffered.

The floor is fitted in such a way (I.e badly) as it lets water in through the kitchen ceiling, although DH has now sorted that.

Also, I think DH will probably die for respiratory failure now because he wore a mask which DS 6 uses to play at being a fire fighter.

Grout around the tiles and touch up with white paint

MrsBobDylan · 17/02/2020 21:25

This is the green and blue dual tone Lino. As you can see, it started off as a phenomenally ugly floor, but look! How we have made it so much worse!

It's so bad perhaps you should move, and advertise the house as not having a bathroom.

MrsBobDylan · 17/02/2020 21:28

DH has given up on life scraping.

oops Grin not the best idea

Crockof · 17/02/2020 21:33

Oh Op, I am so very impressed that you posted the pictures. I don't know how the fuck you managed to make such an ugly bathroom worse but you have managed it. Sorry no help but God loves a trier.

MrsBobDylan · 17/02/2020 21:34

I think @Malvinaa81 has it. Shame though. The rest of the house has come on very nicely despite our now blatant lack of design skills.

PragmaticWench · 17/02/2020 21:40

No sorry, that is WORSE than changing rooms!!

MrsBobDylan · 17/02/2020 21:40

Ds 12 has just said that he told his Dad he liked the green because it was so bad, he felt sorry for him. He also said 'Oh Mum, I wish I'd been here to advise you' in a very pitying way.

I think the dc are going for a vote of no confidence. We'll probably just sign the house over to them and stop trying.

Can't help with the bathroom, but your DS sounds awesome.

RoomR0613 · 17/02/2020 22:01

I totally see what you were trying to do though.

I would stop scraping. Get a big ol bucket of proper tile paint, paint the whole lot grey or white and then use some tile stickers to get a fancy colour or pattern where your hulk line is.

Blackforesthotchoc · 17/02/2020 22:07

Use this: www.peelaway.co.uk - its poisoness stuff but super easy to use and get everything off without scraping the tiles.

thesunhasgothishatontoday · 17/02/2020 22:08

This is salvageable OP. You've said your husband will die of respiratory failure due to using a toy mask. Just use his life insurance to get a plush new bathroom. you're welcome

Sleepycat91 · 17/02/2020 22:11

B and q do a multi purpose paint, i painted the strip around my kitchen with one tester pot, has to be used VERY sparingly with a foam roller but came out great. Might be worth a shot?
