Range cooker: stoves or rangemaster?

Sooverthemill · 10/12/2019 12:43

We have a 110 cm wide rangemaster range in our hose which was out in when the house was built almost 20 years ago. It's on its last legs and I'm fed up with it. It is dual fuel ( gas job and electric grill and ovens). Size wise it's perfect, but I hate the electric ovens ( we sued to ave a falcon all gas range which I loved but is just too much for us to pay now).

So I've looked at these. Any feedback?

Stoves sterling

stoves richmond

rangemaster elise

falcon induction but that's probably outside my budget and it's all electric but maybe a new model will be better than this falling apart old one I have?

The one we have is the range master 'professional' and I genuinely think it's shit. Makes me grumpy all the time... we would use John Lewis 0% finance to pay over 18 months

So many typos...

I’ve got a 60cm Stoves. It’s shit and I hate it. I’d swap it tomorrow if I could justify it.

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 10/12/2019 12:47

I have a Belling all gas one which I love.

Sooverthemill · 10/12/2019 12:52

@FlamingoAndJohn that's my fear. To me stoves and belling are very old fashioned ( I think had each in different houses) and they weren't much good

We are about to move to a house with a rangemaster Elise. It doesn’t have a timer or a clock. So ridiculous !
Plus it’s China blue and not my thing so I suspect we will be replacing it as soon as we can afford to.
I have a rangemaster 900 and love it but it won’t fit in the new place 😢

MTJTD · 10/12/2019 13:14

I'd avoid Stoves; they're not well regarded.

The Elise is dual fuel too by the way; Rangemaster does have all gas models though.

Span1elsRock · 10/12/2019 13:17

I've got a 100cm Falcon induction and it's a thing of wonder. I've fallen back in love with cooking again since having it. It's powerful, quiet and the oven is ready to cook in minutes (ours is all electric). I use both ovens equally (had a Britannia before with a fan in one oven and conventional in the other which only got used at Christmas) and they are super easy to keep clean.

Oddly enough, I went into our local independent electrical store to look at a Stoves one, but found the handles very plasticky and cheap - the Falcon is very good quality. Ours is charcoal grey and it was £4500 with the matching extractor but worth every penny.

owlofathena · 10/12/2019 13:19

I have a 100cm belling gas range. Gas hobs, small gas oven, gas grill and an electric oven. We end up using gas most of the time. Had it for three years now and no issues at all

FloraMacDonald · 10/12/2019 13:19

I hate my Rangemaster with a passion.

Pinkstump · 10/12/2019 13:22

I bloody love my Falcon! Have you considered a reconditioned one from Ebay?

GatoFofo · 10/12/2019 13:24

My Stoves is crap, really badly made. It’s 10 years old so may replace it so reading with interest.

Sooverthemill · 10/12/2019 13:26

I would sell my body for anther Falcon! The trouble is I need to pay in instalments so has to be JL or similar. @Span1elsRock please tell me more about your falcon induction. Does it realest up pretty much instantly? Did you have to buy all new cookware? Any downsides?

I've got the Elise 110 you linked to and I like it. I’ve had it for 7 years with no issues. Pluses are having six gas burners and 2 electric ovens. I like having 2 ovens, it’s really useful. The grill isn’t that great - takes a while to heat up - but I rarely use it so it doesn’t bother me. Rangemaster are owned by Aga and I think the Elise looks the best of the four you’ve linked to. Mine has a slightly different configuration with the grill in the same area as the left oven and a warming tray below but it’s not a lot different to the one you’re looking at.

creamcheeseandlox · 10/12/2019 13:26

I have that exact stoves Stirling oven but in the electric oven version. We have had it for About three years and had no issues. The heating element went in the oven recently and we got a £35 one from online and replaced it. No other issues with it.

Sooverthemill · 10/12/2019 13:32

@gamechanger42 I cannot cope with a grill in an oven cavity! We had that in our last house and we just ended up never using the grill. It was so annoying having to have a big oven door open to grill with dogs and cats and kids. I have to have a separate grill I'm afraid.

FloraMacDonald · 10/12/2019 13:36

My rangemaster doesn't let you adjust the grill height. It's ok for bacon, but you literally cannot fit a sausage in there.
Annoyingly poor design

FrostythefeckinSnowman · 10/12/2019 14:01

My experience: I bought an all electric induction Aga range cooker a few years ago to replace a fire damaged oil fired Rayburn.
Really wasn't that impressed despite the ££££ although I liked the hob. In hindsight, I should have re-jigged the layout rather than trying to find something that would fit in the gap under the large extractor canopy.
This time, different house, I've put in two separate ovens and a large induction hob and it's perfect. I like being able to see what's cooking in the ovens and 2 ovens plus the microwave/normal oven in the utility is adequate for me when I'm doing a lot of cooking, like at Christmas and for parties.

So my advice is, think about what you want from a cooker and consider whether it might be better to re-do the kitchen layout slightly and give yourself more options.

Sooverthemill · 10/12/2019 14:27

@FrostythefeckinSnowman there's no way to do the building work in our kitchen that would be needed to resign the layout. In my dreams I'd take out the stupid window that sits just below the worktop level and therefore the kitchen sink and put in a french window. I'd close off a second door into the kitchen and I would knock through into the tiny utility room that I cannot even turn around in. I have to use the existing space because until my MIL dies we couldn't afford it ( assuming we are left a small sum of money which she says will happen!) and also I have a chronically sick now-adult DD who cannot have any noise in the house ( even the hoovering is agony for her). We can't have work done.

So I have a 110cm gap and I have to use that space & I want a range cooker. That's what I like in my kitchen with two ovens a separate grill and at least 6 burners on the hob. Preferably with a griddle too.

God I'd love to replace this crap builders kitchen! Our last home had a beautiful hand made wooden painted kitchen...sigh

The induction hob is amazing, and luckily I had Stellar pans so it was only the odd frying pan that didn't work on it. It takes a while to get used to, as there is a P setting for rapid boiling but you need to remember to adjust it...! It boils water quicker than the kettle, and everything just cooks so much quicker. The grill is great, pulls out easily for cleaning and is used a lot more than our old one ever was. The main oven under the grill has multiple settings ie fan, fan and convection, convection only etc and a separate temperature dial, whereas the taller oven is fan only and has an amazing plate rack in. Both are ready to use and at temperature in less than 5 minutes. The only downside was having to have the electric supply changed to up as it uses more power than our old Britannia range did (think it was 45amp).

This is the one I've got. www.rangemaster.co.uk/products/falcon-range-cookers/falcon-deluxe/1000-deluxe-induction

The trouble is I need to pay in instalments so has to be JL or similar.

Could you get a credit card with an interest free period and pay it off that way?

lifeisgoodagain · 10/12/2019 15:15

I've got a range master gas 110 (different model) and love it

Pinkstump · 10/12/2019 17:05

I think Paypal offer credit terms now, if you did want to go down the Ebay route it may be worth looking into?

christmassymcchristmas · 10/12/2019 17:08

The grill isn't deep enough in a range master so Stoves for me

Bloomburger · 10/12/2019 17:15

Avoid Britannia. Our range is 3 years old and I shelled out £850 last week to get the main induction part fixed. I'm awaiting a call from customer services (apparently I should get some compensation) as they took 3 visits to fix it, first wouldn't move cooker as was too heavy (they are cooler repair people), second visit brought one part but not the other per and finally on the third visit actually fixed it. They said they'd call within 24 hours but hey ho. I'll give it another couple of days.

wowfudge · 10/12/2019 17:35

We have the Stoves Sterling 1100EI with induction hob. I love it. Had it about two years.
