Range cooker: stoves or rangemaster?

We have a 110 cm wide rangemaster range in our hose which was out in when the house was built almost 20 years ago. It's on its last legs and I'm fed up with it. It is dual fuel ( gas job and electric grill and ovens). Size wise it's perfect, but I hate the electric ovens ( we sued to ave a falcon all gas range which I loved but is just too much for us to pay now).

So I've looked at these. Any feedback?

Stoves sterling

stoves richmond

rangemaster elise

falcon induction but that's probably outside my budget and it's all electric but maybe a new model will be better than this falling apart old one I have?

The one we have is the range master 'professional' and I genuinely think it's shit. Makes me grumpy all the time... we would use John Lewis 0% finance to pay over 18 months

@Bloomburger yes I wouldn't have a Britannia after hearing of similar experiences

@Pinkstump I wouldn't buy anything worth more than £100 from eBay! And JL give 2 years warranty etc. They are my go to for major home appliances. I may ask if they would supply a falcon all gas as it was them I got my original Falcon range 20 years ago but then all you did was phone your local branch tell them what you wanted and they would come the following Wednesday with it! Ah how times have changed...

@lifeisgoodagain what's good about it? The range we have here is rangemaster professional and it's rubbish but I wonder if it's how old it is?

@wowfudge tell me what is good about it?

Large capacity main oven. Heats up quickly. Second oven is multi functional and a good size. The grill is a great size and cooks evenly. The induction hob is great. I love cooking and it's the best oven I've had. We have the black one.

wowfudge · 10/12/2019 21:06

Actually we bought it on eBay, from a small appliance retailer. Think it was a cancelled order/surplus stock from somewhere. We saved a few hundred pounds on the usual retail price.

I’ve got the Stoves Sterling but with a gas hob.

It’s 7 years old now. The numbers wore off the knobs years ago, and they came off the front panel as well. All the knobs have been heat damaged. The oven cooks noticeably more on one side than the other.

FlamingoAndJohn · 10/12/2019 21:32

Oh and the lights that show when the oven has got to temperature have fallen in.

I have a range master nexus. Worst mistake in my kitchen. Terrible thing

winterelf · 10/12/2019 22:12

Am just about to order a falcon induction and AM VERY EXCITED. Happy to see the love for them here. They seem to be solidly built and I don't. We'd all the knobs and whistles (timers etc)! as whole house is "smart" so easier to say "set alarm for 40 mins" than actually programme it.

Brendajeanmoore · 11/12/2019 06:01

Does anyone know why Belling range ovens are so much cheaper than Rangemaster, Stoves etc? We are electric only and need a complete new kitchen in the house we just bought. I'd like an induction hob but it all seems very expensive.

I have a dual fuel Rangemaster Elan and love it. We're moving house and leaving it so will be gutted to see it go. We've had it for 8 yrs and never had an issue with it, it has plenty of timer functions, self-cleaning function, pan rests are very heavy duty and I've never struggled for space. Love the Aga styling of it to.

I have a Britannia 120cm - had it for 15 years and only one small repair. Love it. But i see Bloomburger had a problem with hers.

BubblesBuddy · 11/12/2019 08:44

I’m shocked at a cooker not lasting 20 years. I have built in Kuupersbusch ovens and after 15 years they are pristine. Just buy something well built. Belling is cheap and cheerful. My DSis has a range type cooker and that’s awful too after 15 years. Falling apart. Also don’t get gas. Think of the climate.

I have a leisure cuisinemaster that I am eagerly waiting to be installed. Had great reviews online and I got £150 cash back for buying it which took the sting out of the price a bit. I ordered through AO and I am pretty sure they offer finance options.

Anna713 · 11/12/2019 09:20

I have had a Belling for about 8 years now and I love it.

Mustbetimeforachange · 11/12/2019 09:34

We have a Stoves Sterling dual fuel, 12 years old. I like the gas hob (the wok burner is actually too hot to use to cook anything), but the oven in uneven & the knobs are ridiculous. The numbers have worn off, I've replaced them all once. If you take them off to clean them you can't be sure they'll ever go on properly again. I can't justify replacing it as there's nothing actually WRONG with it, but it wasn't a great choice.

Sooverthemill · 11/12/2019 09:37

I've now found this environmental review of cooker brands and Smeg comes 2nd ( I cant afford a Miele).

Anyone got this one? Or any of the Smeg ranges? Would really like feedback as I know nothing about them, I thought they just did fridges!

All very interesting. We are about to buy a Falcon Continental 1092 induction with matching hood. It will be replacing our 15 year old Aga masterchef 1000 Dual fuel. We have looked at every range possible and where even thinking off the Smeg Portafino 90cm induction. The reason we are going for the Falcon Continental is the two ovens are the higher off the ground and We found the grill on a lot off the range cookers was just to small. We have noticed with all off the range cooker that the build material quality has got very thin and flimsy even with the £2000 and up..

I have a 110cm dual fuel Rangemaster professional (2 years old; chosen and bought new for my new kitchen) and I absolutely love it! I cooked a grilled breakfast this morning including sausages (a PP mentioned they don’t fit - how big are those sausages lol!) and this all was done easily in the grill and love that I can have two ovens at different temperatures. I bought extra oven trays (racks?) for both ovens so I can fit 6 layers of items in my side oven, for example. Budget wasn’t really an issue (couldn’t have afforded an Aga but didn’t want one!) and so I researched for ages and looked at loads. A friend of mine has a Stoves and to me it looks cheaper and less good quality than mine. I have loved every minute of my (first ever new) oven.

SwedishEdith · 12/01/2020 22:30

JL's own brand is Smeg. They've this one
