Does anyone live in a new build next to social housing?

If you do please tell me its ok. We have recently exchanged on our new build and are waiting for completion. There is going to be 25 housing association homes on the development. Two are already up and occupied and so far one has a broken window (boarded up) and today there is a Tesco shopping trolley abandoned outside.

Eek (or am I being a snob!).

Wouldn't buy a new build myself. Too concerned about it being on a mine shaft, flood plain or former landfill, shoddy building work, etc. than HA sites.

No, maybe someone else, I don;t live in Norfolk any more, hence I notice all the new build when I come back.

I didn;t realize the new one was 3000 houses. FGS Harts Farm was carnage enough!

I have always wanted to live in Wymondham (the bit round by teh abbey etc). My sister lives there.

None of those Expat, it has been checked and rechecked.

The area round the Abbey is gorgeous, there is a house up for sale there at the moment between The Abbey Hotel and The Green Dragon (?) pub.

Aimsmum - sorry I wasn't saying that single parents are scroungers, just that it can commonly be believed that if you are a single parent you will of course be renting a council/ha house or flat.

I was sitting in my front room once and heard an old man chatting outside to a friend (he was shoving leaflets through my door for a local fete) and he said 'oh yes these houses were built for those single mothers, weren't they?!'
eh?

Sorry to get on my high horse but when you have a certain neighbour who lives in my area who has secret meetings with my Housing Association, erects no fishing signs which are home made and illegal, locks a gate to the river which is a public right of wayt, knocks on your door to get you to move another tenant's rubbish and telling you to phone the council to get it removed, comes onto your wonderfully planned 'open plan' area outside you home without your permission you would also have different views!

One more thing - why would I pay over £215k for a large terrace with no parking or pay £900 month rent private for a unsecure tenancy, when I can rent for peanuts a month anyway?

Don't know about the new-build aspect, but we lived for 7 years on an estate which was half private (ex-council) and the other half now housing association.

We never had a moment's trouble in all those years, and have had more anti-social issues since moving into our current, all-private street in a 'nicer' area.

I'm sure it will be fine.

Owning is expensive. You never know, these people may be nurses, teachers, firemen etc. It's a good thing but I do understand your need to ask.

You don't know what it will be like until you move in. That's the truth I'm afraid. I hope it turns out okay.
