Just about to set up an air bnb. Would you be happy with these plus a chest of drawers or would you prefer a wardrobe. Please can you let me know why you have your preference. TIA

For an air b&b yes, that would be fine for me. I tend to air b&b for short trips so wouldn't need a large wardrobe.

Make sure you supply coat hangers though!

thisisallnewtome8 · 02/10/2019 11:34

Thanks. Have learnt that lesson last time. I keep having to replace them though. I'm really trying to avoid building yet more flat pack furniture.

There are coat hangers with a loop instead of a hook - I’ve had them in self-catering places before. I assume you’d thread them on to the hanging rail before attaching it.

GiantKitten · 02/10/2019 12:06

“Captive hotel hangers” apparently Grin

JoJoSM2 · 02/10/2019 12:11

It looks ok for a low budget stay. If you're charging a lot, then I'd expect a higher standard of furnishing.

thisisallnewtome8 · 02/10/2019 12:28

I will google them immediately.

Not budget but just wanted to give a more contemporary and airy feel to the place. I'm also trying to avoid carrying ready assembled furniture up the stairs damaging the walls and also don't want to assemble furniture. I did that last time and am keen to avoid again.

Captive hangers ordered. Thanks for the info.

Jojo you have raised an interesting point. What makes it high end? In my experience it's high quality bedding and towels with spares. High quality toiletries. Ample seating for the people staying. E.g if you advertise for 8 people then lounge should comfortably seat 8 and table should also seat 8. Plenty of crockery, cutlery and glasses with spares.
The option to get food/wine in for your arrival,
Good quality hairdryers.
Plenty of televisions. Study area and good WiFi area.
What else would you look for?

I prefer the second one and don’t think it would make somewhere look low budget. As a guest I always hate hanging stuff in a wardrobe in case I end up forgetting to take it out so this is totally up my disorganised alley!!

ItStartedWithAKiss241 · 02/10/2019 13:02

I actually prefer this as I always forgot something and this way it’s on view so I’m less likely to do so x

JoJoSM2 · 02/10/2019 13:16

Well, if you can make it cool, modern design then it might not cheapen the place. For a more premium stay, I'd also expect a comfy mattress and enough sets of keys but to me personally, TVs wouldn't matter. If the area is popular due to the beach/ walking trails/bike riding etc hen something to accommodate those would be lovely, e.g. somewhere to dry bikinis and towels or put muddy boots.

AnchorDownDeepBreath · 02/10/2019 13:22

We wouldn't stay somewhere without a wardrobe. We don't want all our clothes on show, and it reminds me of being a student and not being able to afford wardrobes! We're having to use these before our new wardrobes are delivered and I'm not looking forward to it...

I think like a PP said, it'd depend on cost. If it was cheap and cheerful, it'd be fine. If it was average or more, we'd probably pick somewhere else, like we would if a hotel had these. They say student to me too much.

wowfudge · 02/10/2019 15:35

I think those are fine for coats, etc in a hallway or porch, but I'd prefer a wardrobe in the bedroom. And shelves and/or drawers that are off the ground for underwear and folded clothes.

You'll probably still have to assemble both of those so it's not going to save you much in terms of work and time.

wowfudge · 02/10/2019 15:39

And captive hangers are awful. Buy a stash of cheap hangers and build the cost of supplying replacements into your charges.

Thelaughinggnome123 · 02/10/2019 16:40

It wouldn't attract me to an air bnb. If everything else in the property was lovely and tasteful I would rent it. But it looks a bit studenty and cheap.

However I prefer to pay a bit more for a decent standard so I might not be your target market.

thisisallnewtome8 · 02/10/2019 16:53

So the consensus of the the people who prefer wardrobes consider them to be high end and clothes rack budget? That's really interesting as that had not even crossed my mind.

I just bored with wardrobes. Does anyone have any other suggestions? Or a link to some contemporary wardrobes/storage?
Ideally under £700.

Lightsabre · 02/10/2019 19:52

Ikea has a lot of choice and they offer a flat pack build service.

GiantKitten · 02/10/2019 20:41

Do you have one bedroom or 2, OP?

fwiw we’ve stayed in some lovely (but small) 2-bed s/c places that only had 1 wardrobe, so the 2 rooms had to share the hanging space.

They probably weren’t high-end, strictly speaking, but were really nice.

We would be quite happy with your 2 options Smile (And would manage perfectly well with captive hangers; sooner that than arriving to find no hangers at all because caretaker didn’t check wardrobes after previous light-fingered visitors - honestly, who does that? Hmm)

thisisallnewtome8 · 02/10/2019 21:49

So it's a five bedrooms old Victorian villa with a popular city centre location. All bedrooms are en suite. It will sleep 10. Three bedrooms have fitted cupboards but for the remaining two I really wanted to try a minimalist look as the rooms are big and a wanted to just have some space.

Giant kitten I will send you the link and place extra hangers in your honour 😀

thisisallnewtome8 · 02/10/2019 21:52

Lightsabre. The picture I showed of the 'open wardrobe' was ikea. I think that looks quite sturdy. I might opt for that one.

SteamedPotatoes · 02/10/2019 21:53

Pet hate are those "I don't trust you to not steal my hangers" captive hangers.. fiddly and you can only use them in the wardrobe.

thisisallnewtome8 · 02/10/2019 21:55

People are stealing my hangers 😀
