Selling a house - why would you use this photo?!

I know not everyone is put off by a train line close to the house - but surely you wouldn't actually use this picture!!!

They probably think it's a positive.

I visited friends for a weekend in Surrey. 4 separate people told me we were "22 minutes from central London" 🙈

Pretentious and obsessed with the commuting times

It’s really grubby for a house that is on the market. But shit hole is a bit harsh. If you bought it I’d guess it would be even more filthy at completion.

Reluctant sale/ divorce is my guess.

I’d never get used to the trains.

The bathroom, I can’t work out if the walls are dirty? It’s just wrong, all kinds of wrong.

Yerroblemom1923 · 26/09/2019 10:58

V overpriced for what it is. V gaudy and not v tasteful at all. They'll have to lower the price eventually to a) take into account the railway and b) they're expecting a lot for a not v desirable house. As a PP said, divorce....

Yerroblemom1923 · 26/09/2019 11:00

They haven't even hovered the bedroom carpets!!!Shock

The house a couple of doors away, of a very similar design, sold last year for £575,000, which is in line with what I said earlier that this house is £75k- £100k overpriced at present.

Smells certainly do. I'd rather not smell someone's shit when I'm eating/preparing food

Presumably, you'd just nip in a downstairs loo like that for a quick wee and anything else upstairs. Loads of new houses have the loo right by the front door,I've always thought that was a bit odd.

Pretentious and obsessed with the commuting times

It's a big thing though, not them being pretentious, they're probably just delighted they don't have to stand for any longer than 22 mins.

I wonder if the majority of the posters on this thread have actually moved/ viewed multiple houses because if you think this is bad you'd be in for a shock!

EntirelyAnonymised · 26/09/2019 13:48

They’ve listed the time into central London and the station because it is prime commuter belt. People search for (and discount) houses based on distance to train station and commuting times, so it is sensible and practical to list it.

JoJoSM2 · 26/09/2019 14:08

@MrsPellegrinoPetrichor

I don’t think it’s that bad internally - once the vendors take their stuff away + it gets a lick of paint, it’ll be ok. IMO, the undesirability is down to being right by the tracks, having no garden, small rooms without a single space big enough for a family with kids or having a couple of friends over, lots of stairs to run up and down.

It’s hardly the Surrey idyll commuters seek when moving out of London.

chuckeee · 26/09/2019 14:27

I know why the EA has lists the commute time. I was saying how pretentious it sounded when 4 separate people quoted the same thing in the space of a few hours, "22 minutes to central London".

It's like they just have to tell you the exact time. Embarrassing

A normal period house then. It has a front room and a dining room, where do you all live if you think this is a small house?Confused

wowfudge · 26/09/2019 15:22

I don't get why that's embarrassing. It's clearly the length of time the train takes. That kind of info is key for commuters.

Drabarni · 26/09/2019 15:32

ha ha, we did this because despite the house being called station cottages and directions given to immediately after the level crossing, people kept arriving stating "ooh, I didn't know it was close to the railway" No shit, what did they expect with the address Grin
In the end we asked EA to take an obvious picture, like no8.

Streamingbannersofdawn · 26/09/2019 15:38

Maybe they have had lots of viewings and the feedback keeps coming back that people don't like the proximity of the railway line.

Viewers always commented that our old house was near the main road!

Yes of course it is, it's like stating the zones in London, everyone wants to know what zone somewhere is so they know how long it'll take to get there.

NbyNW · 26/09/2019 17:26

Photo 1 is the worst. Unless it's my eyesight then those gates are awful

chuckeee · 26/09/2019 17:44

But do you then need to go on about it to all and sundry once you've moved in?

We visited friends new house. "It's lovely" we said, "nice garden". The reply, "yes, we love it, and it's only 22 minutes into central London" Confused (completely ignoring the fact that it's 20 minutes to get to the station).

Husband comes home and the same convo happens with him.

We meet their friends in the local pub. Them: "have you visited before?" Us: "No, it's our first time here", them: "oh it's so handy for us, wouldn't live anywhere else, it's just 22 minutes into central London".

The husbands mate comes for breakfast the next morning. Him: "what do you think of the new pad?" Me: "fabulous, love it". Him: "so handy as well, it's only 22 minutes to central London" HmmGrin

Cue me and OH pissing ourselves for 10 minutes then having to tell them what a bunch of twats they sounded like parroting on about the precise train journey to the last second.

Of course it's relevant to someone buying a house. It's not relevant or interesting after that. It's pretentious

wowfudge · 26/09/2019 19:08

Or maybe it's made a huge difference to their lives? You're the one going on about it now and calling your friends twats. It's not pretentious at all.

JoJoSM2 · 26/09/2019 20:52

I’m just wondering where those friends live...

You can get onto London quickly from Kent or Hertfordshire but from Surrey?

I think there are some fast trains from Esher?

Would you mind sharing @chuckeee
