Howdens kitchens - how much?

custardbear · 21/09/2019 09:02

I'm having s kitchen designed by Howdens

L shaped kitchen - both lengths around 4.5m
Top and bottom cupboards
Floating island drawers
Pan drawer unit
Normal drawer unit
1 Corner spin out cupboard thingy
Two large tall larder cupboards
Grey sink
Good quality laminate for L shaped kitchen (already got a breakfast bar in granite so not buying that

Currently got integrated larder fridge and freezer and dishwasher in the plan but that'll be the first to go if it's very expensive

Any guesses how much it'll cost - l shape is 4.5m each way island is 1m
It's Clerkenwell range
Thanks

This is the real problem with Howdens.
They do no publish price lists.
The cost of items is dependant on who is buying. A trusted and regular tradesman will get one discount, a new buyer another. Joe public walking in off the street will pay their top price.
Whoever the fitter is they are close to the top range of kitchens so think £10000+.

custardbear · 21/09/2019 09:15

My fitter uses them all the time so hoping he's got a decent discount! I'm buying in October sale too.
I have 10k budget but don't want to go over that hence going for Clerkenwell which was the cheaper end but still nice, and a decent laminate
Fingers crossed!

I can’t remember. I work for a construction firm so the builder didn’t add any mark up.

I love the kitchen I ended up with.

666onmyhead · 21/09/2019 10:37

The discount will be relative to the amount of business that your tradesman puts through their account each month. But, more than likely, that won't be passed onto you anyway. Simply because of the way this works I would refuse a kitchen from this company unless they supplied it to me, so I knew the figures and was in control of what my cash went on.
Personally, I had an independent design done (OnePlan) and then shopped around.
Yes the design cost was an initial outlay. But the difference of being involved in the design stage and working with someone with no agenda, other than to make things work for you, is amazing. You get what you want and you choose where to buy and can haggle and get extra discounts that you wouldn't be eligible for if you were using the full retail service of places offering 'free design'. There's no such thing as a free lunch remember.

Agree with the posters above. However having had quotes off several companies for the same design, I know I am getting a good deal with Howdens. Or rather I am paying a price I am happy with. Even in the October sales, prices vary week by week so you will still never know if what you paid is the "right" amount

Happyelfjokeday · 21/09/2019 14:17

Also I would recommend getting the same design done somewhere else so you have a benchmark and you can use it as part of price negotiation... they have flex to be able to sell it to you less!

MoonbeamBonnet · 21/09/2019 15:29

Don’t accept the initial price and consider going elsewhere for worktops and appliances. (Actually their appliances were pretty cheap but reviews are terrible). Ours recently ended up costing around £5000 for what sounds like a similar size kitchen. That was negotiating down and getting the full discount passed on.

custardbear · 21/09/2019 16:24

Thanks! Think I'll ask for loads of expensive stuff then cut it back from there 👍

I didn’t have any problem at all with Howden’s. Their designer came round, I told him what I wanted and he made some good suggestions. He then sent me the plans and computer generated pics via e-mail. I then went into Howden’s to see it on a big screen and make any changes or final tweaks I wanted. They then e-mailed me the detailed spec together with prices. I got my own builder to order it and I paid Howden’s direct. Mine was slightly smaller than yours but I had a U shape of cupboards and drawers, upper and lower with two glass fronted cupboards, including two corner units and pull out bins. I upgraded the appliances to avoid Howden’s own brand so I had a s/s cooker hood, a waste disposal unit and a Bosch dishwasher. The whole thing came to £5700 and looks amazing.

doodleygirl · 21/09/2019 19:01

I have just been quoted for navy Matt clerkenwell, 3 tall larders, lL shaped, 2 corners, 2 wall units 900 my drawers under oven storage (2 single ovens) 300 mm cupboard, 150 mm spice cupboard, 2 x 600 mm cupboards for dishwasher and washer £6500 excluding appliances.

doodleygirl · 21/09/2019 19:03

We have also been quoted by DIY kitchens £5600

custardbear · 21/09/2019 19:09

Great thanks ladies - I reckon my £10k should go further than expected! I'll hold out for simething around £6-7k and see if they can add some electrical

Don't forget to factor that units are only a part of the cost of the kitchen- worktops, splashbacks and appliances will add considerable cost. If I was choosing an area to budget on it would be the units. Don't know if I am right or not

Comefromaway · 22/09/2019 12:36

Whereas I would go for the best quality units possible because other stuff is easily replaced.

custardbear · 22/09/2019 20:33

Thank you - I've been thinking about getting appliances elsewhere - will see about the white when it's in 👍

Just thought - those getting a quote from elsewhere - did you send them the email pictures from Howdens or just do it from scratch again? Thanks

Whatever you do don't let go of the dishwasher!
It's a lifesaver

carly2803 · 22/09/2019 21:31

mine was approx 4200 inc VAT - slightly smaller than yours.

its amazing. looks a lot more expensive than it was.

BadassBusty · 22/09/2019 21:37

My dad is a self employed builder and uses Howdens, did my kitchen with them, they were great. Their units come ready assembled too so not additonal costs for the fitter to build them up from flat pack. Just don't go for glossy.... A bugger to clean Grin

custardbear · 22/09/2019 21:38

@TiddleTaddleTat - goodness never lol - we don't have one in the rental we're currently renting whilst the renovation is happening and it's got no dishwasher 😱 I've had one 12 years now so never ever not having one ... we have a non-integrated one, may just go with that for the time being - although if they come up with good prices I may have the integrated and sell mine 😁

I paid about £3200 inc VAT for mine, get their pull out bin it's amazing!

Mummyshark2018 · 24/09/2019 20:55

We recently had a quote from Howdens. Came back at 9.5k including their own branded appliances (which I believe aren't great!). We also had quotes from wickes and another local independent. Wickes came back at 7k for better appliances and 3 extra tall larders that the Howdens designer didn't even put in the plan. Went with wickes and it looks fab. Our kitchen fitter (also the builder) recommended Howdens initially but actually said the quality of the wickes carcusses was much better.

thisisthetime · 24/09/2019 20:59

Ours was a similar size to yours and was £8k not including appliances except sink and tap. We bought integrated ones separately.

custardbear · 25/09/2019 05:54

Thank you! I'm worried about the price we get back today - fingers crossed!
