Howdens kitchens - how much?

I'm having s kitchen designed by Howdens

L shaped kitchen - both lengths around 4.5m
Top and bottom cupboards
Floating island drawers
Pan drawer unit
Normal drawer unit
1 Corner spin out cupboard thingy
Two large tall larder cupboards
Grey sink
Good quality laminate for L shaped kitchen (already got a breakfast bar in granite so not buying that

Currently got integrated larder fridge and freezer and dishwasher in the plan but that'll be the first to go if it's very expensive

Any guesses how much it'll cost - l shape is 4.5m each way island is 1m
It's Clerkenwell range
Thanks

What price did it come back as OP?

@custardbear hi what did your quote come back as? very interested to here as we are having a howdens kitchen next year x

SpookilyBadOooooooh · 22/10/2019 12:41

What did you do in the end?

I’m still undecided.

The2Ateam · 22/10/2019 23:11

Surely you choose your kitchen and then get quotes from at least free builders/fitters. My husbands company get huge discounts in Hiwedens and Magnet. He will always pass on some of the discount to ensure he is more competitive than others. No secrets or tricks there.

@The2Ateam - does your husband design the kitchen? Or pick it up himself from Howdens? If not then why pass on only some of the discount? This is what puts people off Howdens. I designed kitchen myself with Howdens designer but he basically had to be told what to do. All the design details were mine. I paid for delivery. My builder had nothing to do with it. So if I was not given the full discount I would have been furious as the builder did nothing. I am paying him for fitting. As it was he let me deal with Howdens directly.

The2Ateam · 23/10/2019 09:25

chopc He takes the client to Howdens to choose the kitchen. He will then get Howdens round to measure and produce a version one design and then work with the clients get the design they want.

Re: Discount. It is no different then any retail or shop buying a product then selling it on the the customer with a profit. The discount is his due to the amount he buys from them. For example, you will find the same washing machine in Curry’s as you will in Argos but the price will be different because of the wholesale price they paid.

He does also offer a fitting only service but if you are buying direct from Howden’s you will no way get the discount he does.

It always makes me laugh that people seem to think professional builders aren’t allowed to make a profit like anyone else. He runs a business at the end of the day, he’s there to make a profit on his high quality service and work like everyone else.

chopc · 23/10/2019 11:02

Ok seems like your husband does something. Both times I have had Howdens kitchens the builder did nothing except have an account with Howdens. I was quite happy for them to charge what they wanted for the fitting. But as the whole design process was between myself and Howdens, I didn't think they should profit from it

If I thought they were then I would only choose that builder if they were doing the whole process from design to fitting - like another kitchen company would

The2Ateam · 23/10/2019 23:29

Note, that most professional builders like my husband have trade accounts with almost all suppliers: Magnet, Wickes and Brenchmark so you will get whatever discount they pass onto you or you can just buy the kitchen yourself at retail price.

kazza446 · 23/10/2019 23:39

Place marking!! Had 2 kitchen quotes so far. Wickes price was £14700 but was informed it could go down to £13600 in next offer. £6600 was appliances which I can price match on line for £4500. Magnets is coming in at £14000 but I’m hoping to get a 10% discount on that with a trade account!
