How much was your kitchen?

I hope this is not super cheeky but I'm trying to gauge what is a realistic budget for a kitchen. I know we can't afford top of the range everything but not do I want basic.
So how much did you spend? Budget. Thanks.

I am also going through this very exercise! As you no doubt know it depends on number of units, style, appliances, worktop etc. For a medium size kitchen with island including appliances, real wood in-frame, delivery and installation the best quote I've had is £20k. Just units typically coming in at £8k ex VAT. I'm sure you can get a lot cheaper if you don't want all wood. Equally the same thing with a supplier such as Tom Howley or Neptune would start at £30k !!

We had diy kitchen which were brilliant and very reasonable. Note that they will not design it for you but will help you with the order, especially if you visit the showroom.

We were delighted but I have seen some comments on here recently about quality...apparently they had some problems with a paint machine but don't know if they have come back to their usual excellent standard

£12500 but it’s a huge room. Didn’t include dw or oven or microwave/second oven

Mgr1603 · 06/09/2019 16:00

Just finishing installing a howdens kitchen just now, £4k for actual kitchen, 10 cabinets. Worktop and backboards , Allendale Range, 2k for all appliances from john Lewis, the rest was flooring and electrics as we moved things around, all in including fitting which was £1300 - all in was around £10k

JoJoSM2 · 06/09/2019 16:09

It’s a bit of a piece of string question. If you’re working to a tighter budget, you can get nice units and worktops from Ikea + good appliances for under 5k. The labour costs are the big one especially if you need walls replastered, flooring changed, some electrics and plumbing. That can easily add another few thousands if you aren’t careful and don’t do any work yourselves.

Legomadx2 · 06/09/2019 16:14

You need to ask ppl to say where they are as that affects things massively.

sleepwhenidie · 06/09/2019 16:26

Kitchens can be anything from a few £k to tens of £k! I remember reading that a good guide is 1-3% of the value of the house, would that help?

Isittheend · 06/09/2019 18:31

Thanks that's really interesting. Our budget is £10000 but I'm really struggling with what and how to prioritize my massive wish list.
I'm surprised the Howden's worked out at that. It gi es me hope!

Oh mine was more like £18k with fitting and floorhjng.
And the most expensive thing was that I fell over on the brand new shiney floor and broke my kneecap lol

ElleDriver · 06/09/2019 18:39

It can be done for 10k. But it depends what you're looking at. Our mid range units and appliances (including fridge freezer, oven and dishwasher) came in at just over 10k. Then there were labour costs, electrics, plumbing etc which were another 2-3k. Then there's decorating, flooring, tiling and so on which was probably another grand.

Nottrueatall · 06/09/2019 18:43

@Isittheend, try Ikea, their prices are pretty good and the quality is also good. They can help you design it and will also install it if required.

Noroof · 06/09/2019 18:49

We are doing it Just now
Units - 15units including 3 tall ones came to just under 4k. They are high quality.
Handles -200
Appliances- bosch oven and hob and beko everything else came to 1650
Flooring-380 plus 200 fitting
Sink and tap 130

Fitting is obviously a big cost but I've no idea on that as it's included in our extension costs

thenewaveragebear1983 · 06/09/2019 18:51

Ours didn't include appliances, it came from magnet and it was 2800 plus 1200 to install it with an independent fitter who did all the electrics, extractor and water/gas stuff too. We had 6 cupboards, 2 large pan drawers, a slide out larder, and worktops.

SpaceDinosaur · 06/09/2019 18:57

About 15k including plastering, decorating, wooden work surfaces, giant American fridge freezer (family hub so a smart fridge) flooring, hot water tap, range cooker, dishwasher, washing machine, rewiring,

We went all out and don't regret a penny.

rosinavera · 06/09/2019 19:01

Most definitely placemarking!

Shelby30 · 06/09/2019 19:09

£10K is a good budget. Obv depends what u want, how big etc.

Ours was £13K including everything, large kitchen diner with utility room. We knocked 2 rooms into 1 so it is a big kitchen. We have quartz worktops, walls were replastered, new lighting, flooring, 2 x tall anthracite radiators. All integrated appliances.

It did include taking down a non structural wall which they charged £750 for. We had lots of quotes, ranging up to £18K. We were originally going with builders and getting kitchen from Howdens or magnet. It actually worked out cheaper to go with a local company who supplied and fitted. Got another local company to do the worktops which was sooo much cheaper going direct. A couple of things I got cheaper myself too like radiators, tap, sink and got them to fit. We started getting quotes in January and it took until July to get to a price and design we liked then it was Sept before it went in.

ooooohbetty · 06/09/2019 19:16

I have a tiny kitchen. Removal of old and fitting of new kitchen with an integrated cooker and hob and worktop came to about 4K. Howden kitchen. Got my own fitter. No one can believe it was so cheap.

Dollymixture22 · 06/09/2019 19:24

I have budgeted £15k for a new medium sized kitchen, new appliances and new flooring into the utility, downstairs loo and sunroom.

Want everything quite plain, with either a statement splashback or radiator.

Ohgoodness34 · 06/09/2019 19:43

I was just going to post the same question! Has anyone managed to get a decent quality wooden kitchen (rather than composite) for under £10k?

Isittheend · 06/09/2019 20:17

This is really interesting. Thank you!
It's part of an extension project so plaster, moving of pipes , electrics, floors are budgeted for elsewhere.
I have a friend who works at Wren so I was thinking of using them. I'd love a quartz worktop but I know this might be pushing it too far although I will look into independent providers. I'm having 3 tall units 5 base cabinets and an island 1.8m by 1.2m.

£14k on the kitchen and appliances and 33k on the building work to make room for it 😬

Tweefutom · 06/09/2019 20:22

Just shy of £30,000 for kitchen and tiny utility. Makes my eyes water but comes with 20 year guarantee.

Comprises 2 larder units, 6 unit island and 3 under work top units. Includes Neff appliances (except cooker and washing machine).

Had to go bespoke as have old house with nooks and crannies and no straight walls or floors.

FastAway · 06/09/2019 20:24

10k units (diy kitchens) 10k appliances 4k worktops

pelirocco123 · 06/09/2019 20:25

Just done ours 28k

Quite scary

user1487194234 · 06/09/2019 20:42
