What sort of cooker for a keen cook

It can be gas or electric. Planning new kitchen. I'm torn about whether a range type would be used enough or just to get a standard double oven ....

I love my gas range but only an amateur keen cook

Aquamarine1029 · 06/08/2019 15:13

I would only ever have a gas cooker.

Kaz2200 · 06/08/2019 15:18

I love my Falcon dual fuel range.

TrumpInflatableChased · 06/08/2019 15:21

I've been thinking of something like these.

We've got an induction hob at the moment, which now I'm used to, I really like.

My wife is a very keen amateur cook.

We have a dual fuel AGA Six Four and it it suits her perfectly. She wanted a conventional AGA but I didn't want the running costs.

Peanutbuttericecream · 06/08/2019 15:25

I'm a very keen cook. I have two separate ovens and an induction hob with five rings. I love my two separate ovens, I use both of them frequently.

I thoroughly recommend an induction hob. They are very controllable and a dream to keep clean.

I’m a very keen cook. I strongly dislike ranges because I don’t want to have to get down on the floor to check on thingsor to clean them. I have a large induction hob, and highly recommend one with a big ‘zone’ so that you can easily use unusually shaped pans, like fish kettles or oval Le Creuset. Then two separate electric fan ovens stacked in a tower with cupboard above and drawer below. I didn’t bother paying extra for slide’n’hide, warning drawers, or steam functions, but I insisted on a pyrolytic self-cleaning model and am very glad that I did.

I’m an induction convert and wouldn’t go back to gas but if you can’t give it up then there are some models of induction hob with a gas ring.

Unescorted · 06/08/2019 16:48

In an ideal world I would have 2 full sized ovens - one with steam injection and the other with a grill in. Both electric with optional fan function. The wider the better

For the hob I would have a 5 ring gas hob, with a griddle plate at one end.

SlocombePooter · 06/08/2019 16:54

Would second thanks. Ranges look lovely but the ovens are awkward to use. If you ever have a bad back you will appreciate not having to crouch down to clean them!

stucknoue · 06/08/2019 16:55

I have a gas rangemaster. look for 1100 wide or it won't fit your pans! Keen cook

MsRinky · 06/08/2019 17:14

My new kitchen is going to have a flexible induction hob, a pyrolitic main oven and a compact steam oven. Both the ovens have grills in them.

roses2 · 06/08/2019 17:20

I have the same cooker in black - I love it! The cooker has an automated timer on it so I can put food in the oven in the morning and dinner is cooked when I get home from work :)

Mine is Belling - I got it around 30% cheaper than the shops from Ebay as it was a customer return. Still in perfect condition.

angstinabaggyjumper · 06/08/2019 17:21

What has happened to gas is it H&S because I used to be able to get a good low flame for simmering a stock for instance but now the flame goes out before I get anywhere near a slow cook? So I changed to induction and I am so pleased with it, plus I can enable a two ring function a really good and sensible idea.

Fere · 06/08/2019 17:26

I would like to learn which of the induction hobs can be used to heat properly a wok, mine doesn't :(

TheDogsMother · 06/08/2019 17:28

We refitted the kitchen a couple of years ago. I went for induction hob with flexible area for larger pans. Slide and Hide oven with more settings than you could ever use plus fantastic pyrolitic cleaning. Smaller combi oven below. Both have grills. Below that a deep warming drawer which can double up for slow cooking. Love it all

VictoriaBun · 06/08/2019 17:33

We have a dual fuel rangemaster. We will be getting rid soon for the following reasons.I

  1. The thermostat in the gas oven has gone a few times.
  2. You have to practically bend double to see into it.
  3. The seal on the gas oven has also perished before
  4. The gas oven part has now completely died and we can't be arsed to get it fixed, so using the small electric oven only.
Movinghouseatlast · 06/08/2019 18:44

Falcon. Beautiful and great to cook on. I was very sad to leave it behind when I moved house. I loved it.

I have just bought an Everhot for my new house which is a whole different ball game. I am in love. Everything tastes absolutely delicious, succulent. The roast potatoes are extraordinary!

TrumpInflatableChased · 06/08/2019 21:29

Is an everhot really £6000?

Moving's budget is clearly bigger than ours! We have a Stoves Sterling electric induction range and I love it.

tryingtobebetterallthetime · 06/08/2019 21:37

I was always a believer in gas cooktops, until we moved into an apartment that had no gas line in the kitchen. We shopped around carefully and ended up with an induction cooktop. I LOVE it. It is easier to adjust the heat than regular electric or any gas I have used. Instant regulation. Also can truly simmer, something I had difficulty with on gas. It is also very quick.

I would never go back to gas. Only downside really is can't char peppers. I do have a wok that works on my induction cooktop, quite well.

Yeahyeahyeahyeeeeah · 06/08/2019 21:38

2 single full size ovens, much better than my large duel fuel range

wowfudge · 06/08/2019 21:41

I cooked on gas hobs for over 20 years. I wouldn't go back now we have induction. I char peppers under a hot grill.

Arsparsley · 06/08/2019 21:47

@movinghouseatlast

Is the Everhot that good?? I’m awaiting delivery of an Everhot 120i and would really appreciate any views.

Trump... it really is expensive. Mine is approx 10 k . I do see it as an investment long term, but I’m very aware and have made sacrifices for the cost.so I hope it’s goid!

tryingtobebetterallthetime · 06/08/2019 21:48

Yes, I can char peppers on the barbecue. The other amazing thing about induction is how easy it is to keep clean. Nothing burns on. Quick wipe and done. Ours still looks like brand new after 7 years. Nothing like a ceramic\glass regular electric which are horrible to clean, and no grills and nooks and crannies like gas.

boring485 · 06/08/2019 21:50

I am absolutely obsessed with my rangemaster electric cooker!
3 ovens, a grill/ oven, 5 rings and a hot plate. I've had it for 5 years and it's still going strong. Baring in mind I cook for 5 people and 4 dogs everyday! X
