Is it difficult to change a damaged dishwasher hose?

The make is Beko if relevant and I have tried google but still not absolutely sure I have what it takes!
But it’s a case of paying for an £8 hose or £105 for someone else to do it.

I am also trying to find a way to protect our plastic hoses as our tenants have had rodents twice bite holes in them despite 2 visits from pest control .

Drag machine out, unscrew hose, screw new hose on, test, push machine back in.

Ive plumbed in every machine I've ever had.

Including the latest one which I had to do even though we paid for it to be fitted as the twat that came to deliver it just stiff there saying the hose wasn't long enough.

It was, it just had to go round a corner.

You do make it sound easy!! My trouble is already in the hose not coming off- as in do I need a special tool to unscrew it? And to buy a clip to put the new one back on? I can’t work it out though my new hose hasn’t arrived yet.

Thank you for the encouraging reply though !

This is a bad photo as i don’t have a torch but there’s this metal clip on it

You just need a screwdriver, unscrew the screw on the clip (turn screw anti-clockwise) and it will loosen. Once it’s loose enough you can pull the hose off. Remember to put the clip (it’s called a jubilee clip) on the new hose before you put it on then re- tighten it.

Oh you are lovely . I will try this and thank you so much !

I now have my new hose but don’t understand attaching it as tried retightening the clip but it just doesn’t match well . The short bit of hose to attach it to looks squashed and like it would just leak even if I could get a good attachment to it. And the rigid end of the new hose looks too long despite being standard for that make

do you mean the filling hose or the waste hose?

PigletJohn · 22/07/2019 20:05

try some more photos with the flash turned on. Both ends of the hose, and whatever it connects to.

sackrifice · 22/07/2019 20:37

The one with the white nylon end is the water in, and the grey one is the waste pipe.

PigletJohn · 22/07/2019 20:42

so which one is damaged?

BuildingQuote · 22/07/2019 21:08

I am very grateful for your replies and on my way home so will inspect further as I don’t know which hose it was and I just ordered what looked like the same thing!

I suspect it’s the white one as water wasn’t coming in to the machine but will check later or first thing tomorrow .
Thank you

I still don’t know which one is damaged as both grey. A smooth rubber looking one is ok while a crinkled one isn’t (mice have bitten it)

The photo (appalling photography I admit and my phone doesn’t respond when I press flash ) shows my offering of a replacement pipe (even with a clip) looking inadequately different to the original one

This is the misshaped thing I am trying to attach it to and do you think I am showing promise as a possible plumber?

OP posts:
chemenger · 22/07/2019 22:33

The crinkled one will be the waste pipe - the front one in your original picture.

chemenger · 22/07/2019 22:37

Have you had this dishwasher from new? Pigletjohn will give much more expert advice than me but that looks as though someone has botched a replacement hose in the past by fitting a new one onto the remnants of the original.

BuildingQuote · 22/07/2019 22:39

Thank you. That shows promise I ordered the right replacement then as just checked and it said beko waste pipe. I don’t understand how a squashy short hose coming out of the dishwasher can attach to anything at all though really

Looks like the clop had been on too tight and has crushed the pipe it eased attached too. The new hose looks thicker than the old one too

Clip*

BuildingQuote · 22/07/2019 22:41

Yes it was bought from coop in 2016 but they no longer sell electrics so id need to contact beko direct who want me to organise at £110 visit- it may come to that But I am so grateful for having tried first just in case

that white hose (waste) has to go onto something inside the machine, not onto the remnants of that pipe.

does that grey collar come off? Otherwise you might have to unscrew the back to access the actual end/beginning of the pipe.

SlocombePooter · 22/07/2019 22:47

Hi we had this happen, and wrapped wire wool round the hoses in case any mice returned - they will leave well alone!

Perhaps a YouTube video would be useful to see how the hose fitting works?

BuildingQuote · 22/07/2019 22:49

I am so humbled by your breadth of advice and grateful. Although disappointed too as I may never get the dishwasher back under its work surface again if pull it out fully as it didnt really fit when first arrived - but it I really might be capable of taking the back off and fitting it without prior experience it seems worth a go !!

BuildingQuote · 22/07/2019 22:55

slocombe thanks for that tip as I did look up some expensive rodent deterrent tape and wire wool sounds more affordable. They chewed a power cord too and I got a bad electric shock last night not realising as we haven’t been living here.

I would try unscrewing the grey collar that is holding the squashed pipe, as MsMighty suggested. I think its unlikely that a new hose would require taking the back off the machine, we've had at least one waste pipe eaten by mice (along with some of the electronics in the machine). Make sure you have turned it off before fiddling with it, by the way.

I have to say that if there is no water coming into the machine I think there may be more problems than this hose. That was the symptom we had when the mice made a nest in the electrics, and it was expensive to fix.
