Utterly clueless about DIY - help

I bought my flat last year and live on my own with my 3 yo DS. I have got no idea about any DIY whatsoever, can barely change a bloody lightbulb.

Now I would like to spruce up my (tiny) kitchen. Namely I want the worktops including the sink replaced. Possibly also a new floor, and the whole thing painted. The painting and the flooring is easily sorted, but how the F do I go about replacing the worktops? Will kitchen places such as Wren etc do a worktop-and-sink-only fitting? I don't need any new appliances.

Budget is not hugely important to me, I'd rather someone do the lot for me rather than save a bit of ££ by faffing about measuring and doing everything myself...

Where do I start?

What sort of worktops do you want? A joiner could do wood (you can source the worktops yourself, IKEA do a decently priced wood range).

Other materials such as granite, you'd probably want to go to a company directly and either use their fitters or get an independent kitchen fitter. I'm not sure if the big kitchen companies would do a worktop only job - but a worktop computer should do!

Worktops are big, heavy and I wouldn't say they are a novice DIY job (I'm reasonably handy, can put shelves up, lining paper etc but wouldn't DIY it). For DIY in general though, I've learned tons from YouTube videos.

If you post on the "property and DIY" board with "replacing kitchen worktop" or similar in your title, you'll probably get some recommendations for specific companies.

Definitely not wood, I've got wood at the moment and it's a PITA.

I'm thinking corian. I don't really like the look of quartz or granite

Ah thank you, I'll report this and get it moved!

We're just moving this over to property and DIY for the OP. Flowers

Corian or Tristone (a cheaper alternative but pretty much identical, Corian is made by Dupont) is usually supplied and fitted by specialist worktop companies. They come and measure up and make a template then come back and fit it. Some sinks are glued to the worktop when it's being made. You might need someone to unplumb the sink and reattach it. The fitters will cut a hole for the tap when the worktop is fitted.

I'd go to a local independent kitchen shop and see if they'll sort it for you. They may or may not be interested in the job.
