Hampshire or Wolverhampton

Helpiamconfused · 24/06/2019 21:50

Please, I have been offered a good job. I have the option of choosing Wolverhampton or an unnamed place in Hampshire. Which should I go for, and why.

Note, I am single, will like to buy property that is affordable (120k max) in a nice neighbourhood. Any advice please

If you want to buy s house move to Wolverhampton - some beautiful countryside to the west

GinisLife · 24/06/2019 21:55

I doubt you'd get s house in Hapsburg for £120k. You'd probably get a terraced one in Wolverhampton but won't be a good area.

There are some fabulous locations just outside Wolverhampton, look at South Staffordshire villages. Or somewhere like Wombourne.

Beautiful countryside on your doorstep and great transport links.

ivykaty44 · 24/06/2019 21:59

Qom our W was where I was thinking, the canals and countryside are lovely

ivykaty44 · 24/06/2019 22:00

Wombourne sorry

Helpiamconfused · 24/06/2019 22:01

Thank you everyone for your replies. If push comes to shove, I could go up to 140k. A flat will be ok for me. What matters to me is nice neighborhood. That’s all really, and not long commute to work.

Wolves but don’t live there- so many gorgeous places nearby if you like villages or rural or Birmingham for better city life

Breathlessness · 24/06/2019 22:04

Your money will go further in Wolverhampton.

Cakemadeoffruit · 24/06/2019 22:12

Lots of lovely places within a half hour commute of Wolverhampton. Sedgley, Tettenhall, Wombourne, Halesowen, Person, Bridgnorth, Shifnal, Pattingham, Telford plus more in Staffordshire and Shropshire. Lots of things to do beautiful parks and country side, shopping centres, swimming, cinemas and Birmingham two train stops away. Really recommend it.

moreismore · 24/06/2019 22:13

You may struggle for that budget in Hampshire, you would need to have more idea of area- south or north? North Hampshire like Andover or Basingstoke you may find something but it would then be a long commute if you were working in Bournemouth for example.

Helpiamconfused · 24/06/2019 22:22

Thank you everyone. It seems wolves is winning here. Beyond cost of housing, where will you suggest? My current work mates are saying Hampshire, stating quality of life....

When will you find out where abouts in Hampshire you could be working?

LimitIsUp · 24/06/2019 23:39

Wolverhampton might be cheaper but I seriously doubt it is better than Hampshire

heath48 · 24/06/2019 23:51

The countryside around Wolverhampton is beautiful, lots of lovely villages. The traffic is nowhere near as bad as Hampshire,Always staggers me when I go South how awful the traffic is.

Great Rail link to Birmingham and London Euston.

Wolverhampton people are friendly as well,.I am from Surrey originally, would never go back.

Helpiamconfused · 25/06/2019 06:23

I hope by the end of this week I will know where in Hampshire. But by then, the choice of Wolverhampton will be off the table

Will your salary be the same in both places? Chance of promotion and salary increase the same? I live in hampshire and it’s fantastic, the weather is great, brilliant quality of life. However it is expensive to buy here.

BarryBarryTaylor · 25/06/2019 07:30

Wolverhampton is ok (born and raised there but left as soon as I could)
In terms of buying a house you will get more for your money there compared to Hampshire, but there isn’t much to do in Wolves itself. The city centre is dyer, consists mostly of poundshops and empty shops. Yes Birmingham isn’t far, and south staffs is also close (and lovely) but wolves itself is pretty miserable.

FairyDust92 · 25/06/2019 07:33

I live in Hampshire Borough and although it's lovely (well some of it!) it's quite expensive! 😑

leckford · 25/06/2019 07:37

You will struggle to buy in Hampshire for £120k, even a flat. Andover is not too expensive, and reasonably nice on the West side, but the centre is quite rough with run down shops. The surrounding villages are lovely but £££

sluj · 25/06/2019 07:37

Just google Bridgnorth images for an idea of how lovely the area around Wolverhampton is. I agree I wouldn't want to live in the town itself but outside is beautiful.
I wouldn't want to live in Basingstoke either.
There are lovely areas around both but it will be much cheaper to buy in the Midlands.

BigRedBoat · 25/06/2019 07:51

Hampshire is a big place with varying property prices - gosport vs Winchester for example, can you narrow down the area?

Ilovewillow · 25/06/2019 07:59

Hampshire has some beautiful countryside and historic areas but in the main the housing is expensive. There are more affordable areas so it does depend on where in Hampshire. I love Hampshire!

slalomsuki · 25/06/2019 08:17

Wolverhampton all the way. The pace of life is better, cost of living is cheaper and people are more friendly. This is from someone who has lived all over the world and not originally from the area. As others have said the surrounding area is lovely and while the city centre is questionable there is loads to do in Birmingham with great transport links and shopping nearby in Telford or Merry Hill.

LimitIsUp · 25/06/2019 10:07

Hampshire also has coastal parts and the New Forest

Bridgenorth properties are cheaper
