Hampshire or Wolverhampton

Helpiamconfused · 24/06/2019 21:50

Please, I have been offered a good job. I have the option of choosing Wolverhampton or an unnamed place in Hampshire. Which should I go for, and why.

Note, I am single, will like to buy property that is affordable (120k max) in a nice neighbourhood. Any advice please

You might not want to live in wolves. You could live in Staffordshire instead but then you'd have to commute a little.

Breathlessness · 25/06/2019 14:13

Hampshire would be my choice every time if the OP had a budget of £320k. For £120k it would be difficult.

Breathlessness · 25/06/2019 14:16

A quick search on rightmove shows 776 properties for sale up to £120k with one bedroom. For the whole of Hampshire.

Thanks everyone for the advice. Thank you for taking the time to help a confused heart. I will let you all know by this Friday what the final outcome is. I have realised I can take up to Friday to decide. Cheers all.

Any new advice is welcome. Keep em coming

Hampshire is great but some parts very expensive other parts are cheaper. Southampton/ Portsmouth/ Basingstoke/. Andover are cheaper if you need a small flat but Winchester and areas in between can be hugely expensive. ( prices often linked to school catchment areas as it’s a fully comprehensive county. Ie expensive area=good area= good school) It has Good road links to everywhere and access to London, weather also probably as good as you can get in UK.
I’m sure Wolverhampton is also lovely but as I don’t know it I can comment on it. Where are your friends and family based? Is one more convenient for you perhaps?

sluj · 02/07/2019 21:19

What did you decide OP?

Helpiamconfused · 09/07/2019 22:33

Sorry folks for not replying since. Been too busy

I chose Hampshire at last.

Many thanks to you all for helping my confused self. Your advice was very helpful

Helpiamconfused · 20/07/2019 22:22

Eastleigh

I'm from Wolverhampton...definitely choose Hampshire.

bluewhale99 · 20/07/2019 22:58

HAMPSHIRE

BonnesVacances · 20/07/2019 23:04

Good choice! There are also loads of Mumsnetters around Eastleigh/Southampton/Winchester!

Good luck with the move.

Beestripey · 28/07/2019 04:21

Ooh, not so far from the New Forest you lucky thing. And South Downs the other way :)

Maybe you'll be able to buy shared ownership OP. Good luck with it all :)

Tweetingmagpie · 29/07/2019 18:04

Your money will go further in wolves and it shouldn’t be in the worst area , but Hampshire is nicer in most parts.

As someone originally from the West Midlands i think you’d be mad to choose there over Hampshire Confused

Tweetingmagpie · 29/07/2019 18:04

Oh bugger sorry. Good choice x

LilyMumsnet · 29/07/2019 18:26

We're just moving this thread over to property for you, OP. Flowers

MaximusHeadroom · 29/07/2019 18:31

Definitely Wolverhampton. There are lovely towns and villages around if you want to be more rural and your money will go further. Excellent transport links if you want to get out on the weekends and according to everyone in my family, a fabulous football team!

People are really friendly too

Gingernaut · 29/07/2019 18:34

Wolvo is cheaper, but it's a shithole.

You need to live further afield and avoid Horsley Fields, Heath Town, All Saints, Bushbury, Park Fields and East Park.

Gingernaut · 29/07/2019 18:34

Can you drive?

Tweetingmagpie · 29/07/2019 20:50

I’m sorry but Wolverhampton is the biggest shithole I have ever been to! And I’m originally from Walsall which is almost as bad as it gets! Came to sussex 15 years ago and never looked back! Midlands are grim Envy

NotYourHolidayDick · 29/07/2019 20:59

Wolverhampton has the best footy team in existence, so go there.

Just ignore the surroundings and the Wolfrun centre 😁

Neet90 · 07/08/2019 02:49

I live in Hampshire (Southampton) and like the county but it's not overly cheap. Can they tell you what area it is?

Kittypillar · 07/08/2019 15:06

Another vote for Wolverhampton. Wouldn't live in the city itself but I'm from near Bridgnorth and that's a really lovely place (I'm sure that's not sure bias on my part Grin ). You get quite a bit more for your money there than Hampshire too I expect. Countryside around there is beautiful too. I don't live there anymore but I still love coming home.

Kittypillar · 07/08/2019 15:07

*not JUST bias on my part. Sorry. Toddler being a nightmare and making it tricky to type carefully...
