Here's mine
Age 28 - one bed, bought as a single person
Age 31 - two bed, with DH and pregnant
Age 48 - four bed house

All in the same area. Expect that we will downsize in a few years time to help fund retirement.

Age 37 3 bed, owned and paid off by me, living with the two best lodgers BF and DS

No intention of moving. Grin

Age 23 - 2 bed bought on my own
Age 35 - moved in to rented with DP (now DH) and rented my 2 bed house out (whilst we worked out if we could live together).
Age 36 - moved into another rental with DH - still rented mine out
Age 38 - relocated and bought small 4 bed with DH, converted the 2 bed mortgage to a proper BTL
Age 40 - bought larger house with DH (but it is 3 bed compared to the previous 4 - but much bigger overall), still have BTL. Now pg with DD.

The BTL has been remortgaged twice to provided the equity to enable me to buy the subsequent houses, which I am very fortunate to have been able to do.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 12/06/2019 13:38

Age 27 bought 2 bedroom Victorian flat with DP. Had 2 kids.

Age 32 bought tiny 3 bedroom newbuild semi. Had another kid.

Age 38 bought 4 bedroom detatched.

Age 40 bought very big 5 bedroom detatched. Had kid number 4.

Mid 50s now and planning to downsize at 60.

For years we ran our business from home in one of the bedrooms so had many years of the kids sharing. Having space is wonderful.

It's a short ladder.

22 - 3 bed terrace with fiancé
25 - 3/4 bed semi detached (with massive south garden, double garage and workshop!)

Here until I die. Absolutely love it to pieces.

If I wanted to go up to a four bed semi I would probably be looking at another 125k. No thank you. Luckily ours came with planning to build over the garage for another bedroom and ensuite if we needed it!

Age 26 bought a 2 bed flat with a friend.

In negative equity for approx 10 years due to house price crash.

Age 36 finally sold that flat (it had been let out for a number of years) and bought a small scruffy 3 bed terrace with dh.

Age 41 sold the above and bought a slightly larger + much larger garden but also scruffy 3 bed terrace. Still here after 15 years. Still doing it up. Can't afford a 4 bed in the same area and never expect to be able to.

This is so interesting! If any of you don’t mind sharing how old you are now too I’d be curious to know a rough decade of when the purchases were.

Mine is:

27 bought 3 bed semi in rough area with DP
30 bought 2 bed semi in lovely area with now-DH.

32 now, and hoping to stay in our lovely 2-bed for as long as we can but realistically may need to up-size in maybe 10 years.

Aged 31 bought a £210k 3 bed house with inheritance. Can't see us ever moving.

Megan2018 · 12/06/2019 21:00

@Fortheloveofscience
Mine was 2001 for my first purchase on my own.
2013 when I started renting with DH
2015 when bought first house with DH
2018 when we bought the house we’re in now.

Secondsop · 12/06/2019 21:04

Interesting thread idea!

Age 28: 2-bed flat (Georgian conversion) in Zone 2 London.
Age 35: 4-bed 1930s semi in Zone 4 London, retaining flat because it was during the dip and I couldn’t find a buyer.
Age 41: 6-bed Victorian semi in nicer bit of Zone 4 London, bought with my husband, still retaining the flat. We’re here for good. Someone else on my road with older children recently moved for secondary schools but I want to try to make it work out because I want my children to grow up in London.

Secondsop · 12/06/2019 21:05

(I’ve been here 2 years so first purchase was in 2004).

Mummyshark2018 · 12/06/2019 21:06

Age 24 bought 3 bed semi with DP (now dh). This was my first house and his third. Paid £246k for it. Still here 12 years later. Currently extending as this is way cheaper than to move. Spending approx 70k. In a very expensive SE city.

MerryDeath · 12/06/2019 21:09

I'm 32 and we've just bought our first house. we've skipped the first few rungs and spent a terrifying amount on a huge old pile in need of head to toe renovations. exactly what we said we wouldn't do. super.
