Fake grass- yay or nay?

We're looking to sell in a few years and are currently sorting out the garden. I'd quite like to put fake grass down and it would probably be easier than laying it to lawn properly, but I'm concerned it might put buyers off in future. What do you think?

We've had it for a year and we love it. It feels lovely to lie on or walk barefoot on and sweeping it clean with a brush takes seconds. We've had lots of compliments on it and if a future buyer of our house doesn't want it, we'll just roll it up and take it with us.😉

Witchonastick · 04/05/2019 22:39

Awful stuff. I’d rather see a garden paved over than covered in plastic!

Rosieposy4 · 04/05/2019 22:40

No wonder we are fucking the earth over when people lay plastic grass because “it’s easier, no mud “ etc etc

ReganSomerset · 04/05/2019 22:41

@scooter125

Our issue is that there's only a little patch of grass, the rest of the garden is partly covered in wooden decking at ground level and part of it with concrete slabs. Digging it all up and putting the soil down promises to be a lot of work, but I really want to increase the lawn space for my toddler to play on.

Terrible for wildlife so it’s a big fat no from me.

Shelbybear · 04/05/2019 22:47

I'd think oh fab, no grass cutting 😀 There's a house nearby that had their drive done and got a small amount of artificial grass. Every time I walk by I'm like oh that looks so nice!

I have a family member that has a larger area out the front but not massive it's been done. A few years and still looks great too.

fluorescentorange · 04/05/2019 22:48

I have it and if you pay the right amount it looks fabulous.

Doesn't it get dirty after a while? I just think where does all the leaves and general dirt go? It's not like it can just rot away and degrade into the ground like natural grass 🤷‍♀️

scooter125 · 04/05/2019 22:54

It's not as daunting as it probably looks! Summer's on the way, I think it's on a Saturday this year, the garden at the house I've just sold looked like a bombsite when I bought it. I set about it with a few basic tools and no appreciable level of skill, now it looks fab and the whole lot only set me back a few hundred quid, the viewers loved it..
Yes some of it was a bit physical and I ain't no Schwarzenegger but hey ho..

fluorescentorange · 04/05/2019 22:54

I have it cleaned and disinfected regularly, I have a vacuum cleaner to pick up leaves etc. There is sometimes a small weed or two but they are easy to remove.

What brand did you use? Smile

I think it’s a good idea and we are going to get some for the same reason. We are doing a small section in the garden for DD’s play area. We just want her to be able to spend time outside all year round without the mess. Basically a way to bring indoors outdoors. In the summer she can have a paddling pool/ Wendy house out and we won’t have to worry about dead grass!

PerfectPeony2 · 04/05/2019 23:00

Rosieposey well at least you don’t have to use electricity on a lawn mower cutting it every few weeks..

I’m sure you can find eco friendly ones too.

pitterpatterbaby · 04/05/2019 23:07

Chavvy. They sell it in b&m Grin

JenMumma · 04/05/2019 23:09

Hell yes ! I've read you can hoover it !!! I'm more pleased and excited than this than I should be. My dad has it and he sweeps it it's effortless, clean, soft and ALWAYS looks good!! Xx

Minnie881 · 04/05/2019 23:10

So ugly and terrible for wildlife. With the rain we have had recently I had the sparrows in the garden picking out the worms from the mud patches. Also it looks fluorescent (and obvs fake) in winter when normal gardens are darker.

Rosieposy4 · 04/05/2019 23:17

Of course, no mess heaven forbid you have to tidy up the odd grass clipping, meanwhile insect and plant diversity goes down the pan and we continue to fuck over our planet. But no worries hey, because it means less mess and less work.

DragonTrainer3 · 05/05/2019 02:37

It seems to be very popular around here but would put me off because I like gardening and I'd worry about the state of the soil underneath.

Also environmentally unfriendly as pointed out above (and I use an electric mower with green electricity, so no problems there).

DragonTrainer3 · 05/05/2019 02:39

For the record, having the garden all paved or all decked would put me off too for the same reason!

fluorescentorange · 05/05/2019 05:56

PerfectPeony2
I used a company called Lazy Lawn

Reddedder · 05/05/2019 06:03

There are loads of houses on my estate that have it out front. It looks nice in summer but odd in winter. You can also tell who paid the most for it as there are differences. The expensive stuff looks really good.

NineinaBed · 05/05/2019 06:18

My ndn have it and looks great. I'm always jealous when I'm having to get my lawn mower out every other week lol.

MinnieMountain · 05/05/2019 07:18

We have it. Our house had gravel when we bought it. We wanted to be able to put a climbing frame down straight away.
It gets hot which feels odd on the feet but it's very practical.

HexagonalBattenburg · 05/05/2019 07:22

People are nicking it around here!

Fridakahlofan · 05/05/2019 07:39

Nay nay nay.
Looks awful and incredibly tacky.

Completely unforgivable to the environment. Read about the insect population and get a grip.

Disco3000 · 05/05/2019 07:40

Definitely no. Real grass is so nice.
