What do you think of this house...I’m not sure I could make it work

What do you mean, "make it work?"

wowfudge · 27/04/2019 19:29

It's pretty dated as far as the bathrooms and kitchen go - but with no floorplan that I can see it's difficult to know what potential it had for how you would like it to be.

Ivegotthree · 27/04/2019 19:29

I hate the white plastic wall in the garden - very oppressive, as are the blinds all through the house.

It seems very overlooked, which I'd accept in, say, London, but in the Isle of Man seems a bit much.

UtterlyUnimaginativeUsername · 27/04/2019 19:33

The sitting room and kitchen aren't great shapes.

PtolemyTalks · 27/04/2019 19:50

I think it’s the sitting room and kitchen that just seem too long and narrow. I also don’t like the look at the front...and there’s a lot of updating needs done.

It’s a very solid well built house that’s been looked after. And the garden is really big for the area.

Upstairs rooms look good size, but downstairs looks like a series of corridors.
If you already live on Man, I'd pop in and have a look, but obviously if you are on the mainland it's a bit of a trek if it is a non starter.

SpinMill · 27/04/2019 19:59

I'd want to look at knocking some walls down or something to make a wider kitchen. I agree about the front, I think.of looks odd with the porch thing at one end.

Sparkletastic · 27/04/2019 20:05

It's aggressively bland.

PtolemyTalks · 27/04/2019 20:12

I think sparklestatic has it, agressively bland!

I’m swayed by the garden....there’s no other reason I’d not passed it by....

Difficult without a floor plan, but to me it looks comfortable and well appointed and something you could bring up to date a room at a time. Perfectly liveable.

PtolemyTalks · 27/04/2019 22:06

What would you do with it?

OP posts:
TheoriginalLEM · 27/04/2019 22:08

Its hideous- sorry op but it looks like a care home

nzeire · 27/04/2019 22:11

My soul would wither in a house like that

BrieAndChilli · 27/04/2019 22:15

It needs a floor plan to be able to see what could be done. It’s very soulless but you could add character and change some things. Looks like the cooker is in a different part to the main kitchen for instance but that could be moved.

MollyHuaCha · 27/04/2019 22:37

The weird angle of the photographs may be adding to the aggressive bland feel.

It might look better in real life.

TheVanguardSix · 27/04/2019 22:43

It's a money pit. Where do you begin? Where do you end? There's just too much that needs doing/changing to make it work, and the alterations would be huge. It's not just a matter of updating it with a lick and a promise, which, at first glance, I thought might be the case.

PrincessDanae · 27/04/2019 22:44

The kitchen is clearly sufficiently small that they put the stovetop in the utility room which would be super annoying to use - kitchen is all over the place!!

PtolemyTalks · 27/04/2019 22:54

Hmm. I don’t live there so relying on photos to build up a shortlist.

Lavendersquare · 27/04/2019 23:53

It's an odd house to be sure, to me it looks it was originally a pair of semis that has been knocked into one house.

Squirreltamer · 28/04/2019 00:10

Such a weird house.

To me this is a great plot rather than a house. For the right price and a lot of hard work it could be great... but it looks well kept just done so wrongly...

The kitchen at 9m by 3m could feel large and spacious if designed correctly. Mines the same size and everyone comments how large it is. But I do wish it was 4m wide but that’s how the edwardians built it....

The garden is large and could feel private the only house overlooking it is over 40m away. Which is way more than average and double/triple new build distances. Just so badly planned.

Then the pillars... and the driveway. The Marshall slabs are laid the wrong way around which makes my OCD go wild...

It looks like an assisted living accommodation or a cheap B&B where the tv remotes are wrapped in cling film.

Baconbutties · 28/04/2019 00:19

Could you use the family room as the lounge it looks like a nicer shape ? The lounge is like a long corridor . I like the house though it's big and airy I think it just needs redecorating and new flooring and the walls not to be cream . The rooms are big they could take some stronger darker colours and rethink the window dressing

PickAChew · 28/04/2019 00:19

I've seen houses with living rooms barely bigger than the entrance porch.

It's very 90s, but huge. One of the final shots of the kitchen actually shows than it's not all long and narrow and the living room is a good shape for zoning, half seating around the tv, half library or whatever, depending on door placement, though there are 2 other reception rooms, so you can be completely flexible.

PickAChew · 28/04/2019 00:22

Have you visited, btw? You could probably soon work out which walls are structural and which are stud walls. Even if most of them are structural, a good builder could open up some space a bit. That kitchen has to be contiguous with at least one of the 3 reception rooms.

Monkeyssplit · 28/04/2019 01:38

I like it. A lot.

cockadoodledooooo · 28/04/2019 01:41

Imagine it as a blank spacious canvas. Lots of potential !
