Hello everyone.

So we have just bought our dream home.. a cute ex Farmhouse in a village.

We would like to name it.
It's on a corner of a street.
We like :

The Corner Farmhouse

Or just

Corner Farmhouse

Which do you prefer ? Or any other ideas?
Thank you so much x

Oh sorry, that was in reply to@smallereveryday

The Corner House sounds best to me. Is what it says.

redredrobins · 28/03/2019 18:25

Brunswick Corner?

jcq17 · 28/03/2019 18:28

The corner farmhouse

KnitterOfSocks · 28/03/2019 18:42

If it's got a number you will have to keep using that, with the addition of a house name being just for you really. You can't get rid of the number once it's got one.

Justonemorepancake · 28/03/2019 18:50

The corner farmhouse is a) a mouthful, doesn't flow and b) boring. Like calling mine mid-terrace small house. Corner is not really a feature and not an interesting word. If the most interesting feature is that it's on a corner, why not come up with something personal to you both that is actually unrelated to it's situation? Or Wick Farm House.

CoolShoeshine · 28/03/2019 19:09

Brunswick Farmhouse or Corner Farmhouse both lovely. I’d love to live in an old farmhouse and I certainly wouldn’t drop the “farm” bit from the name - that might devalue it!

Redskyandrainbows67 · 28/03/2019 19:56

Brunswick house is the nicest

Notwotuknow · 28/03/2019 20:57

Tbh, I'm not keen on either of your suggestions, they just don't sound right.

I like the original name, but if you must change it, how about Brunswick Corner?

Notwotuknow · 28/03/2019 20:57

Or Cornerstone Cottage?

Mwnci123 · 28/03/2019 21:08

I would also keep the original name. I think it's a bit naff to change old house names.

Corner House or Corner Farm House

reallyanotherone · 28/03/2019 21:10

As someone with a converted barn which has a name, give it a number.

House names cause shit loads of problems. Couriers can never find it, i am constantly fielding calls about “they’ve missed the number off”, “which house is it” or the depot refuses to despatch at all as there is no house number. Hermes are fuckers- no number, no delivery. On the flip side I end up with every incorrectly addressed letter or parcel on the street.

I picked up a parcel from a drop off last week and it took them hours to find it because they were looking for my surname and were seeing the house name instead.

Call it number 15. It will make your life far easier.

Langrish · 28/03/2019 21:11

Another vote for Brunswick here: don’t erase part of its history (have you researched, is it named in any old documents/records?)

Bewarethequietboy · 28/03/2019 22:38

It’s worth checking the local council naming policy as they may not let you change it, or may require it to be a particular form.

I know this as we’re about to build a house and have to name our new house which the council say has to be house ( as it’s a house- not a cottage/ barn/ etc) and we’ve had our first choice rejected as it’s similar to the historical name of a neighbouring house (which has since been changed, so we didn’t know)

NewMummyx · 29/03/2019 06:51

Hi everyone

The name is just for us really as we will still have to use the number & street.

We do have to pay a very small fee (£25) but our solicitor would sort that.
